Too much cgi can destroy a movie. Although the movie wasn't horrible...it could have been a lot better with out all of the cgi and it had a lot

It was OK. It had so much potential to be a great story just based off the premise, but I think somewhere they dropped the ball.

A really badly handled film, great on paper, poor execution.

I didn;t really like this movie. Every scene that dosn't involve any action or fighting felt like it was there just to get to another action scene.

This was honestly one of the worst movies I saw last year.

it tried to introduce too many characters... it's a shame... so much potential...
and uh, wolverine doesn't look good with long hair... some guys can't wear their hair long and look badass...

But they managed to do the whole Jekyll/Hyde thing like 100% better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I liked the werewolf stuff, and I liked the unorthodox casting of Dracula, but boy what Drac turned into at the end was retarded looking. So was Frankenstein.

Agreed.
You should see his homosexual brother. Hans Velsing!!
It's very scary on how he "defeats" his enemies. ;) lol

Indeed that movie was total crap, too much CGI thanks to the director...or no thanks. Poor Hugh jackman, imagine his face after the premier!

He's such a good actor both on the screen and on the stage...i can't wait for him to be in a good/serious film

I thought it was truly a piece of ****. It had a lot of CGI and I for one thought the CGI in the film sucked in the first place. Not to mention a cracked out plot.

Two parts in this film that I liked. The Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde scene was great and the black and white portion of the film. Other than that it was horrible

I laughed my ass off watching Van Helsing. It was awesome. It was just like a corny B-movie with a huge budget and random, indulgent ridiculousness, combined with lame special effects and goofy dialogue.
By far my favorite guilty pleasure of 2004.

Same here, droid. I laughed my ass off because Kate Beckinsale kept getting her ass kicked all over the screen. It seemd to be the theme of the whole movie. When she finally fought back, I couldn't believe it. Good popcorn flick, but that's about it.

I have not as yet seen the movie. It looks like it has great potential, and I enjoyed the book. Three great stars. But, from what I jave heard it is not very good. Which is a shame for the idea was great. Steven Sommers is famous for ths though. Mummy.

lol now THATS scary, movie was a complete let down, kinda like extraordinary league was a let down. excellent story to see but not fleshed out enough and plots weakened to make room for cgi and action scenes.
p.s. watching kill bill 2, tralier fight scene with the bride and eye patch chick, in SLOW-MO, my god this film rocks.

I had so much hope for Van Helsing and I'm a HUGE Hugh Jackman fan but this movie was a total let down for me. WHile it wasn't the worst movie, it was far from being the best.
For a good fighting scenes.. check out both Kill Bills.. now those were awesome movies

My thoughts on van hesling.
---its the little things and lots of them that drive me nuts on this movie
--Only a werewolf can kill dracula--- Lame beyond reason
that alone caues so many issues in the movie its sad.
--dracula was not very good villian. --didnt even like the actor that played dracula and really felt weak overal
--beyond dumb logic---guy makes weapon that admits sunlight, but no idea what to use it on, even though they are going after vamps... comon pepople
--cgi overload.. This by itself for me is often forgivable.. im a forgivialbe movie view that can overlook some flaws, but with everythign else, this just hurts the movie.. i enjoyed some of the werewolf stuff, but just all went to a mess by the end.
-- kate dies in such a weak way.. she gets bumped into and dies,, after she takes a beating and is swing like tazarn thru some insane sections and such.. Just weak.. i dont mind she died, but common... that was just a lame way to go.
-- movie just didnt flow well.. It was just a choppy film.. this by itself can hurt a good movie, but with everything else going on , the pace of this film just was too noticable and unforgiving.
i was not expecting much and would have been happy with Mummy level quality, but thsi movie just coudlnt even do that.

^ I'd agree with that. Van Helsing could have been one of the coolest movies ever. However, It was executed very poorly, much like other films such as "The Scorpion King" and "Alien vs. Predator".

The movie was terrible.
It tried to "coolify" the Van Helsing legend by making it "Van-indiana-bat-james-man-bond-man-Helsing"
Stupid beyond belief - the topper was when they have to get the antidote to Van Helsing before the clock strikes midnight. The clock from my recollection struck once audibly - because it took the better part of 15 minutes to get the antidote there.
The guy runs with the antidote and the bride of Dracula takes out the bridge he's supposed to cross quickly - so the female swings by and catches the antidote (while hanging by her one arm - she still held herself in place) and she makes it across the gap.
Where she then gets attacked by the bride and struggles with her long enough for the guy to cross what remains of the bridge to help her do away with her.
This all saves exactly no time in getting the antidote to him. Duh.
Very poor excuse of a film.
