Well FOlks the Next Installment of a Horror Remake has been announced and the Name Reeks of Phantasm

New Line Cinema is in final talks with filmmaker Don Coscarelli to bring the cult horror film Phantasm back to the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The 1979 original, which Coscarelli wrote and directed, told the story of a young boy named Mike and his friends, who face off against a mysterious grave robber known as the Tall Man and his killer flying spheres. The film spawned three sequels, all of which were made by Coscarelli.

Coscarelli would act as producer on the new version, in which the Tall Man travels from town to town turning the dead into his own army and using his deadly spheres against anyone who opposes him. Mike, who is developing psychic powers, and his brother try to stop him.

The trade says that the project is being developed as a relaunch and as a possible trilogy about Mike's coming of age.

The Good News is its the same Director. However I liked the Phantasm movieds and it the plot for the new one actually sounds interesting. But the question I have are they going two far with all these damn remakes? I mean can't they figure out something orginal? Maybe a new Horror Slasher Charcter? oh well I guess we will have to make due for what we have?

Phantasm doesn't sound like a remake it sounds like Phantasm V with a VI and VII if things go right.

I dont mind them, they dont detract from the original in anyway so people dont like them they dont have to see them, I like seeing new approaches to older Horror Films and if the remake sucks, I will just rewatch the original and remember how much I love it.

I have much the same opinion on this as I did on the Texas Chainsaw remake: it can't be any worse than the original. No offense to fans, but I thought the original Phantasm sucked. The concept was sound, there were creepy parts, there was good music, but on the whole it was just a crappy movie. Although I liked the Tall Man and (like everyone else) I loved the spheres. That was really the only good thing about part two, was the extra emphasis they put on the balls (heh heh). With today's effects technology they could do some awesome stuff with this. Personally I'd love to see it.

As far as the whole remake thing in general, yeah, they are going a little ape-sh** with it. But as long as said remakes are done right, and come out quality, then I shan't complain. I pretty much agree with Spidey 2K's sentiments.

hollywood ran out of sound horror movie concepts a long time ago

so now the general consensus, take an old plot line, add some well know teen starlet, make it bigger and badder than before. whatever it takes to get the green.

It would be so awesome if instead of remaking them they digitally remastered them and re-released them in cinemas...hype them up a as "The scariest movie ever made is back Digitally remastered" and there you have it...that way everyone is happy.

I would LOVE to see a Rosemary's Baby remake. With today's technology the movie could be even better then the original. But, I doubt that it will be made in the near future

I don't really mind them, if they look decent I'll see them if not I won't. Most of them will probably suck, but sometimes I think its worth it for the remakes that are really great.
