One more thread and that's it until another two weeks. Anyways do you think ticket prices for movies are getting higher? I went to see this movie the other day and it was $10.00 for an evening show. I couldn't believe how expensive it was.

Well of course they are. They always have and always will. I can remember a time where I could buy a ticket for 2.50-3 bucks. But yes, my local theatres just recently rose to $9.00 and $9.25 for evening tickets, with 7.75 and 7.50 student and military tickets. Before 6:00pm they're still something like $6-6.50 though.
I'm kinda curious what the prices are in places like New York now considering how high they are here.

Yeah it use to cost around $3.50 to see a movie here, but lately the prices jumped up to $8.00. Its just pitiful! I think $4.00 would be good enough, but not $8.00.
I pay. . .
$3.75- Early Bird Matinee
$4.00- Other Matinees
$7.00- After 6:00
Prices haven't changed in quite a while.

I still pay 6 bucks... If they keep getting any higher that domestic box office record won't be held for to long......

People use this as an excuse to download movies.....
"If ticket prices weren't so high I'd go see them, etc.."
It would be interesting to see how people think of that on these boards.

Yea they need some sort of way to justify it..... I would rather pay 8 or 9 bucks than sit next to Bubba in Jail.... *cringes*

I will say I'd hate to watch downloaded movies in comparison. I had a friend who watched ROTK the first time he saw it on a burned DVD. What a freakin moron. :hehe:
Of course if people excuse watching pirated movies because of the high ticket prices, that isn't gonna help much, as they're just gonna raise the ticket prices to compensate, not lower em.

My theater I work at just rose prices for adults and students from 8.00 to 8.50 and 7.25 to 7.75 (respectively)
They raise prices every 6 months or so. last time, they increased the matinee prices

6 for the matinee, and 8 for evening. Its not THAT bad of a price. I think another reason they are being raised is because the price of concessions is so high, so they have to make up for that.

mine is 7 bucks for night, and 5 for matinees... except the crappy theater, which is 3 bucks at night and 2 during the day... i don't go there because the screen is about the same size as a big screen tv and the sound quality sucks, and it smells like urine

I still have my ticket stub from Star Wars Episode I and right next to is my stub from Episode II. There's a 2 or 3 buck difference or so between the two, and I'm gonna see how this next one turns out.

Movie tickets are way to high for me but most people still shell out the money. Therefore, the theaters charge that much. What needs to happen is for there to be some other form of entertainment to come out that could compete with cinema, then the competition would drive the prices down.

This is what might happen
1. Ticket prices continue to rise
2. DVD pirates keep stealing
3. Movies go to DVD quicker
4. People quit going to theaters due to high ticket prices and due to the fact that the dvd will be avaible to rent or own shortly
5. Hopefully, ticket prices go back down in order to attract the casual viewer

$5-6.00 where I am. It is Ok. Should be less expensive, but it is a real advanced theater, with Stadium seating.

That wont happen. Movie tickets prices will rise, but it will rise with or slightly above the consumer price index. The average american will always be able to afford the price of a movie ticket. Plus the movie execs might be greedy, but they're not dumb.

Haha, that sucks. My brother works at an AMC, so I get to see movies for free. I don't even know how much tickets cost anymore, but last time I paid for a movie it was somewhere around $6 (about 4 years ago)

I have a feeling that there will be a time that you'll be able to watch movies direct to your home theatre as an option. Theatre prices will still be reasonably high as you'd be paying for the large screen and surround sound, and the price for watching films at home would be slightly lower.
Just a thought on what's to come. DVD releases will always be simply determined, however, by how long a movie can make money in the theatres. So I suppose, naturally, if movies start making less at the theatres, they'll come to DVD sooner. But ticket prices rising hasn't really shown to be ineffective as of yet, because films are still making a crap load of money regardless.
