not any news recently, but at this time in production, (the thought process), you dont hear much news for a couple months until things are certain, but theres been rumors that Sean William Scott may be the new Ash, and Bruce Campbell may have some role, maybe even just a cameo.

I know this sounds crazy, but has anyone ever seen the independet movie "Darker Side of Romance?" The guy who was the mad man in that, he should play the new Ash if Bruce Campbell's not going to.
Regarding Bruce Campell's part, it would be cool if he played Dr Knowby.

As long as they don't try to actually remake what The Evil Dead became and instead remake from the script, from the idea that Raimi had, about a curse in the woods, this movie could have some potential. But if they set it up as campy, and try to evoke the same spirit of the original Evil Dead, it's not going to work.

Producer talks Evil Dead rework

(the www.moviehole.net article)
Seems Producer Robert Tapert was as nervous as a scottish-fold near water when it came to reworking his horror classic "The Evil Dead", but Director Sam Raimi coaxed him into it.
"It took a long time to get to the point where we wanted to remake it," Tapert tells SciFi Wire. "The funny thing is, nothing is as you would expect. Our original investors and I think [original Evil Dead star] Bruce [Campbell] and myself were more resistant to remaking the movie than Sam."
He adds, "Sam, in his own special way, kind of led that charge," Tapert said. "I think Sam was really the one who said, 'Gee, I would love to give a new filmmaker an opportunity to use that title and use their skills to retell this in a new way for a new audience.' I talk to Bruce Campbell every other day, and he says, 'You should see the message boards and all of the stuff I get saying "Please don't do it!"' So we're certainly going to have to tread carefully."
"As long as we stay true to what was the original model of the first Evil Dead, which was that we want to hurt and punish the audience, then those who love it will be satisfied," Tapert said. "We mean to bring that out to a whole new generation in something that honors all of the people that loved it and yet gives them a new and thrilling ride that they weren't expecting. That's the challenge, and hopefully if we succeed that's kind of the glory."
In the very least, hopefully the king of Chins gets a cameo.

This is slightly encouraging, but I still really, REALLY hate the idea. I think that Rob and Bruce need will need to keep Sam away from the set. Since they were apparently fighting the film I'd be far more interested in them still trying to make a quality film than Sam. He came up with the idea. Nice. Now stay away. No more crack for you.
I think what hurts me the most is that the original crew are the ones behind this. It feels so much like a betrayal. I never, ever in a million years wanted to see an ED remake. i sure as hell wanted to see ED4, but not this. *cries*

I dont think we have to worry about that with Raimi prducing a remake of his first movie.

Dr. Knowby??
Yeah, can't you just here his (Bruce's) voice on the musty old tape recorder "Whatever it is I have ressurected from this book, is sure to come calling... for me." That, would be awseome.

If you read the link I posted, you would know that Bruce Campbell has asked that there be no character named Ash in the remake.
