I think it's a terrible thing. either see the movie the right way or don't see it at all. And why do they edit some of these movies. Come on whats the fun of watching kill bill edited. Also edited dvds are more expensive

This is yet another reason why I don't won't kids. If I have to watch edited crap around them then what would be the point of watching a film like Kill Bill or Blade. Like someone said, either watch the film as originally intended or don't watch it at all.

The only time movies should and will ever be edited is if it's on TV. Thats really the only reason though

they shouldn't edit them then either
networks should get over this nazi FCC bull****. Broadcast can mabey have an exuse, but NO cable channel does.
That along with Pan & Scan is the reason I have never watched a movie on t.v. (unless it comes on TCM, SUN, IFC, or FXM) in years.

Well they have to though because the FCC is up their ass all the time and it dosn't matter when they show it they still have to edit it. I can understand their reasons though, because they can't show friday on Tv during the day shouting F bombs

^the FCC only applys to broadcast television, not cable. Cable networks just edit because they're pussys

Edited films might be funny, though. Like Passion, or Kill Bill Vol. 1.

I can see why parents want to get edited DVDs, but they have to realize that they can't hide the world from them forever, and it's better for the parents introduce it to them while they are there with them and guide them while they watch.

I get the impression most of you dont like the idea of edited videos. What is wrong with them? The edited movies I have seen have been fine. The movies that have been edited for TV are only irritating to me because of the commercials.

It destroys the director's artistic vision. When a director/writer puts in a swear word, a breast or a blood splatter, he WANTS it to be there, it is there for a REASON, whether to shock, or titillate, or to make someone laugh. To take that away is to completely negate the possibility of a film being an artwork. It's exactly the same as making Pan&Scan versions of movies. Regardless of "how much more" picture you get (which you don't on Pan and Scan anyway), the film was CONCEIVED AND MADE with the WIDESCREEN FRAME. I cannot watch movies on TV (apart from the blessed, rare ones that play widescreen) without cringing every time I see a shot that has something obvious cut off.
Not to mention that an edited version of Pulp Fiction, or Braindead, or Kill Bill, or just about any film with a rating higher than PG-13 would suck.
If you can't stomach R-rated movies, don't watch them. If you don't want your kids to see 'em, don't let 'em. Seriously, dude.

The best is when a Die Hard flick is on TV and you get 'Mellon Farmer' That one just makes me laugh.

Geez, Why are guys getting all dogmatic about this?
If you can't stomach R-rated movies, don't watch them.
Who died and made you movie-king?
Since when is there a right and wrong way to watch movies?
Please forward me the movie rule-book you have written.

he's not the movie king, I'm not the movie king, your not the movie king. The Director is the movie's king, and he wants his original cut to be seen, It's not your right to question that.
Andy_R

Nobody is preventing the director's original cut from being seen.
I'm sure most directors would agree that most of their R-rated films are not suitable for children. Parents have the right to protect their children. "It's not your right to question that."

Parents do not have the right to "protect" their kids from free speech. The MPAA is a plot for the retail industry to undermine the constitution. If it were up to me anyone would have access to any ideas regardless of age.

I don't even know how to respond to that.
You're saying that kids should be exposed to all types of mature content, AND that their parents don't have the right to protect them from that content?
Do you have any kids?
Dracula

no I don't. But The constitution allows for freedom of speach, not freedom of speach to adults. Furthermore I don't think there are any negitive effects of younger people seeing movies with more "mature content"

I don't think the idea was of "who has the right to see what," it was more the idea that if a movie is unsuitable for your children to see, instead of cutting it all to hell, don't let them watch it. They'll get over it.

are you being serious? Are you saying that little kids should be aloud to watch movies like bad santa or south park:BLU without parents persmission?
Dracula

yes and yes
personally I don't think little kids SHOULD see it, but it's more that I don't think they'd appriciate them. My point is more that they have a right to see them and coorperations should stop playing morality police just because they're to lazy to ignore a few old coots complaints

Sometimes edited movies are funny. For example in National Lampoon's vacation, they stop in St. Louis and as for directions from this pimp. In the original he goes "**** yo mamma" in the edited version he goes "who do I look like? Christopher Columbo?"

Of the edited movie providers that I have tried, Edited DVDs www.editeddvds.org has the best quality (picture and sound), the lowest prices, and excellent customer service. Flicks Club is very good quality as well, but their prices aren't as low. CleanFlicks has really good quality on their recent edits, but they have higher prices, and the customer service is not the best. Hope that helps you.

Of all the edited movie stores i have tried www.flicksclub.net is definately the best. Editeddvds.org has a very small selection and only has cheaper prices becuase they sell you the edited version without the original attached, which i believe isn't exacly legal..don't know.
Oh, and flicksclub.net also does online edited dvd rentals..very cool

What he is saying is that its the parents job to not let their kids see those things, not the FCCs.

i agree with whoever said that the film is the director's vision and they shouldn't alter it. i also believe that if you don't want your kids to see something, just don't let them watch it. but you're a damn fool if you think that they're not gonna see it at their friend's house, if they really want to see it.

I used to use CleanFlicks, but the shipping was extremely slow (it took 6-8 weeks to receive my edit). I also tried FlicksClub, but the quality was not very good. Then I tried RevisionDVD; they had the best quality and reasonable prices, but they recently went out of business. They recommended that I use www.editeddvds.org and I have been using that company ever since. Unlike what you say, they do sell the original with the edit, and they have a huge selection of movies to choose from.

Because they're advertising thier site selling edited DVD's. We had a good discussion going, but there is starting to be too much spam....
