"Written by George Lucas."

Oh, I wanted to write that when I read the title of this thread :D

-Yeah, A screenplay written by George Lucas.
-Lucas' obsession with CGI

Written by George Lucas.

In my opinion Lucas' scripts are not the problem. He is a great story teller. His directing is the problem. His job on the prequels has been mediocre. If Lucas would have convinced Irvin Kershner( director of Empire Strikes Back) to come back and direct the prequels I think we wouldn't be bashing Episodes I and II today.

Did he try to get someone else to direct but couldn't find anyone? I think I remember reading somewhere that Spielberg wanted to direct Ep 3 or something and he said no...

I dont think so.. Episode I's fault was the script. I mean, George may be a good "storyteller" but the epI script is just awful. Plus he's no good director plus there is too much CGI plus Jar-Jar plus...

I'm pretty sure that you heard that about EP VI actually, but, I could be wrong. And he almost did get Spielberg for EP VI, but, Lucas couldn't get him because SS is in the Director's Guild while Lucas is not.

What would ruin EPI III? If Lucas somehow tries to make the ending not so dark... that would P*** me off soooo much.. ROTS needs to end with the jedi almost eraticated, and the galixy in total caos.

The Raiders line was good, yeah, but the way that idiot said it just screwed the whole thing up for me.

One thing that could screw it up would be if Lucas over does everything, like he did in TPM and AOTC. He just tries to cram too many things into these movies, and it causes overload. Remember the simplicity of the OT? They were simple, two-hour movies with a few key locations and a coherent plot-- good popcorn movies, in other words. I miss that....

Needless cameos. I don't want to see Lucas put himself or any of his director friends in the movie, like he appeared in Beverly Hills Cop 3. With all the behind the scenes stuff on DVDs, I know what the director looks like and when I see him in his own movie, it pulls me out of the story if only for a momment. This happened in the Fog when John Carpenter showed up early on in the movie.

Also, no aliens from other movies. It was bad enough seeing ET in TPM although on the wide screen DVD, he's not as noticable. I don't want to see any Predators, Aliens, Gort, Robbie the Robot or even Bender. Nothing that's going to stick out like a sore thumb.

If George Lucas is reduced to the guy holding the mic(boom operator), he would still probably screw it up.

I do not think that it ROTS will suck as bad as say TPM. If you watch the prequels they gradually get better. Episode Two was a much needed improvement on the trilogy. Some of the dialouge sucked, yes, but i still think it is a good film. and i believe that ROTS (STAR WARS ROTS, TEE-HEE) Will be awesome, because he wrote himself into a corner. There is only one true way he can write this movie because of all the lore...

btw, what bastard from Spider-Man?

Lothenon
09-21-2004, 10:42 AM
btw. Grievous could either be very cool, very impressive and a very good character - or an overdone cgi mess with crappy, cheesy lines, not enough screentime to get any backstory (*cough*Maul*cough*) and just be there for looking cool but dont do anything for the story..
Come to think of it, I am really anxious about what Grievous' role in EpIII will be..

Sock-Man
09-23-2004, 12:52 PM
From what I gather Grievous will be there to add some variety to the battles, look cool and give something for Obi Wan to do before fighting Anakin.

Yeah - I will be mad if the movie ends on a happy note. It needs to be very dark and forboding. Spielberg has to have a happy ending - look how he ruined A.I. by changing it to have the happy ending - I don't think he would be the best one to direct Episode III. Not like he would have anyway.

It's not gonna have a happy ending. It's going to be as dark as Star Wars can go.. how dark that is though I'm not sure.

How could it possibly end on a happy note?

Miasma
09-23-2004, 03:41 PM
I think people may be getting their hopes a little too high about the darkness of Episode 3. Keep in mind, it's still a SW movie, and SW movies are aimed at children. It may be a bit darker than the others, but probably not as dark as some of you are hoping.

Also, remember when John Williams was talking about writing the music for Episode 3? This was way back when he was doing the music for AOTC, and someone asked him about writing the music for the third one. He said George told him how it was all going to end, and Williams said it's going to be a very beautiful and very powerful scene, and he can't wait to write the music for it. That doesn't too dark to me. Of course, that was a long time ago, and Lucas may have decided to do something different.

EDIT: Oops, I remembered Williams' quote wrong. This is what he actually said:
"George Lucas has narrated the last piece to me. After I heard it, I told him, 'Just hurry up and do it, because that is a fabulous ending." So, it could be dark or bright... hard to tell from this.

Sock-Man
09-23-2004, 03:52 PM
I'm not expecting mega-dark. I'm expecting it to go as dark as it can go without estranging the young audience. It's not going to end on a happy note and there'll be lots of dark colours used basically. I reckon anyway.

iguano: Had Lucas allowed it, Spielberg would have directed AOTC. He was also Lucas's first choice for ROTJ, but the Director's Guild wouldn't allow it. Lastly, at first, I wasn't happy with A.I's ending but multiple viewings on DVD have made me a fan of it. Somepeople would debate that A.I's ending was happy as well.

Anyway, things that could ruin ROTS other than being pushed back to 2010:

1-A short length
2-No answer to who Syfo-Dias is.
3-A weak performance by Natalie Portman(at least in terms of her character, it would ruin the film.)

Sock-Man
09-24-2004, 04:39 AM
I honestly don't care who Syfo Dias is..It would be nice to know but it's not going to ruin the movie if we don't find out.

Maybe ruining the film is a little too harsh but it would certainly make the mystery of AOTC pointless.

Miasma
09-24-2004, 07:44 AM
The movie could conceivably end on a hopeful note, with a close up of baby Luke. Or it could end with Obi-Wan going into the cantina, chugging back some powerful alcohol, slamming the mug down on the bar and yelling "#@!$!!!" Iris Out.

The supposedly dead jedi master who ordered the cloning of Jango Fett in AOTC.

I always assumed the jedi-master with the long neck was Syfo Dias.

I think it's pretty certain Sifo Diyas is either: a) Palpatine b) Dooku c) Qui-gon d) Just some jedi who actually did die 10 years ago.

Take your pick.
I'm banking on Dooku, as the whole idea of the army of the republic is that when Palpatine seizes control he will have an army at his command.

Mr. Blonde1
09-24-2004, 07:16 PM
It wasn't Qui-Gon IMO because Obi-wan seemed to know who Sifo-Dyas was and I think we would have gotten a hint by Obi-wan if It was Qui- gon.

I personally think It was Dooko. Jango said " I was recruted by a man called Tyranus" referring to Dooku.

Who is Syfo Dias?

TheForce.net says Master Sydo-Dyas is a Jedi Imposter. Possibly Darth Sidious pretending to be one of the good guys. This was listed in the characters section of Episode II. Don't know how accurate this is though.

I think he might, obviously, turn out to be General Grievious. More than a few characters have multiple names in the SW universe and Dooku was Lord Tyranus, who was thought to have died 10 years before. This way if he turns out to be Grevious, then there would at least be a reference to the character in AOTC. He wouldn't just be appearing out of nowhere.

Anakin's that powerful? He gets beaten by Obi Wan doesnt he? By the way, my brother thinks that since Jar Jar helped Palpatine gain power, he will be revealed as a villain in film 3. I can just see it now...

I don't think we're going to see Anakin kill many (if any) Jedi. The clones and Grievous'll take care of that. And no doubt the Jedi will be wuss's again, just like in the arena battle.
