I was talking about the actual gameplay, like moves controll etc. It sucked in ETM so I was wondering if it will be better this time.

I don't know how the combat will work, I imagine it'll be menu-based being an MMORPG.

Well since I'm up with today's time, I know that The MAtrix Online was the biggest dissapointment in E3 so it must not be that good. I didn't expect any more.

Malitos_Sahkir
09-19-2004, 09:26 AM
I think it was mean't to be playable at E3 and then they only showcased a new trailer, or something. Only disappointing if you look at it in the fact that it wasn't playable.

If Gamepro called it a dissapointment, then they must have played it at E3

Can someone find out if it was actually playable at E3? becase like you guys said...we dont know if it was a disapointment because it wasnt playable or it was playable and sucked.

From IGN May 14th 2004 - Watching someone else fight in a 20 minute demo... - There's still a lot of work to be done on The Matrix Online, but we'll soon have the chance to enter the Matrix ourselves in the beta. -

See? It was only a presentation and a trailer, no one played it outside of the development team giving the presentation.

Well that will explain why people said it sucked because they still have lots of work to do.

The idea just sounds bad to me.

Why? Just wondering if you actually have thought about that comment ;)

Its just a perfect idea (not saying the game is perfect, but the idea).

With the growing interest of MMORPGs, and growing numbers of good MMO RPGs it is the perfect time to release/make a game like this.

The matrix universe is perfect for an MMO universe. Where you basicly jack in everytime you play. Just as in the matrix. Where you learn skills (more logic way then any other MMO RPG. Because its the matrix. There you can learn skills and moves and fighting abilities just like that). Where there is a great city (which is also good for an MMO universe, seing that mega city is just one big ass city). And where information is the key. You trade information. Maybe for some skills, maybe for other needs. You form groups, go together. Play either against the matrix. Or maybe work as one of the Merovingians Henchmen.

Keep in mind that this is NOT a fighting game that many people seem to think. Its a basic "point-and-click" game. The caracter does everything on his own, with minimal interaction from the actual player. Minimal, meaning that you can change the order of which the caracter does stuff, and place in special moves, but nothing more then that. Its got the basic system. I.e you have 20 in Attack, and the opponent have 5 in defence and 5 in attack. There is no doubt who will win. Its a skill-based game. Not a fighting game.

And some also ask if it will be better then "Enter the matrix". Just to illustrate how weird question that is: Take EA as an example. They made games like fifa 2004 and Command and Conquer Generals. "is Generals better then fifa??" Impossible to answer as there is no way you can compare those 2 games. That is how different this game is from enter the matrix.

Closing: If the game will be good or not, i do not know. But to say that the idea is bad makes me wonder if you actually know what you just said ;)

Or if you even know what kind of game it is. Because the matrix universe is no doubt perfect for the MMO RPG genre. Enter the matrix should never have been made. It casts shadow over other matrix titles that have a great potential.

(PS: Dont take any of this a hostile attack against you, even though some might sound like it)

Well I thought it was a fighting game........

It seems like they would have to severly expand the Matrix universe. I also don't know what your missions will be like. I believe Neo is the only one that can beat an agent.

THE STATE OF THE MATRIX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neo is dead.

However, in his sacrifice, he insured peace between the humans of Zion and the Machine civilization.

The Matrix Online takes place immediately following Revolutions. It is a tense time, and while the truce has held, no one is certain how long it will last. It is very much a cold-war scenario with all sides preparing for the worst, but most praying for peace.

In the Matrix itself, three powerful organizations vie for control.

The Merovingian continues to solidify his powerbase in the face of record numbers of immigrating Exiles (machine programs that have fled into the Matrix to avoid deletion). For the Merovingian and his ilk, the continuation of the Matrix is essential. Their very existence is now housed within the code of the Matrix. And while many Exiles exhibit incredible powers, each one has a Killcode; a specific vulnerability that can instantly destroy them.

The Machines reluctantly allow the recruitment of new redpills, but the sheer number of redpills leaving the body pods is of great concern to them. Without energy from the pods, a power crisis will occur; something that the Machines want to avoid at all costs. In addition, redpills performing rule-breaking feats may be having an effect on the population at large. People rejecting the Matrix en masse may very well be a breaking point for the truce.

Zion continues its efforts to free those who see past the Matrix, but with more and more people leaving the pods, their organization is becoming fractured. Some believe that the peace Neo secured must be protected at all costs. Others believe that the machines cannot be trusted, and are quietly preparing for the eventual outbreak of hostilities. There are also those who believe that Neo is still alive...

As a newly awakened redpill, you are thrust into this maelstrom of subterfuge and mistrust. Choose your loyalties but trust no one. The ultimate fate of the Matrix is in your hands.

KEY TALENT JACK INTO THE MATRIX ONLINE
Massively Multiplayer Online Game Extends The Matrix Saga With Character Voice And Physical Likeness Of Film Talent

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA, today announced the confirmation of select talent, including Laurence Fishburne, Monica Bellucci and Mary Alice, for The Matrix Online, the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) based on Warner Bros. Pictures' popular Matrix property.

Capturing the authenticity of the Matrix films, Fishburne (Morpheus), Bellucci (Persephone), Alice (The Oracle), Lambert Wilson (The Merovingian), Harold Perrineau Jr. (Link), Harry Lennix (Lock), Nona Gaye (Zee), Collin Chou (Seraph) and Tanveer Atwal (Sati) have provided voice-overs and their character likenesses to the game. Don Davis, the film composer for the Matrix trilogy, is also providing the score for The Matrix Online.

"Since The Matrix Online is the legitimate continuation of the Matrix storyline, we felt that it was imperative to preserve character continuity between this game and the films as much as possible," said Jason Hall, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "On Jan 18th 2005, the Matrix storyline will resume right where it left off, and players will see, hear and ultimately interact with familiar characters while they make gameplay decisions that can become permanent legend in the storyline of the Matrix."

Launching on January 18, 2005, The Matrix Online, co-published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and SEGA, is a MMOG where tens of thousands of players will jack into the Matrix world to take an active role in continuing the saga of The Matrix movie trilogy. Developed by Monolith Productions in conjunction with the Wachowski Brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy, the game will be a re-creation of the virtual world of the Matrix, employing cutting-edge 3-D graphics, networking and server technology. Gameplay in The Matrix Online will be based on intricate and exciting "wire-fu" combat, an extensive mission structure, social interaction and a completely customizable skill and ability system.

Talking like a true "i dont know anything about the subject".

Yes, there is tons of flaws. But condiering that there is already about 25.000 beta players. And many of those will keep on playing. And considering that this is a closed beta (meaning not everyone can join - as opposed to open beta) many more will join later.

Think before posting ;) Or check up what you are actually talking about.

But no doubt, it has tons of flaws. But thats not the current subject now is it.

Edit: AND also consider that the first 5000 beta spots went in a matter of minutes. So did the next 5000. the 5000 after that went after a couple of hours, so the popularity is huge.

This is from the new newsletter I was sent-

In last week’s newsletter, we revealed the first of three major forms of player versus player (PvP) combat inside of The Matrix Online: the Dueling System.

The Dueling System allows individual characters to challenge other players to one-on-one combat inside of the game. For more information on the Dueling system, please refer to last week’s newsletter located here.

TEAM VS. TEAM DUELING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second type of PvP action inside The Matrix Online is a variation of the single character Dueling System: the team vs. team Dueling System. The team vs. team Dueling System allows groups of up to eight players to challenge an opposing group of players to team vs. team combat.

The Team vs. Team system will closely resemble the player vs. player PvP dueling system.

THE ARCHIVE: PVP CONSTRUCTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The third form of PvP combat available at launch also introduces another feature: Constructs. Constructs are “pocket worlds” which exist outside of the actual Matrix. In The Matrix Online, the Archive is a special Construct where players will be able to take on others players who work for opposing Organizations.

To enter the Archive, a player needs to purchase a network key code from a special Archivist NPC within the Matrix. Once passage into the Archive has been obtained, another NPC must be found for teleportation into the Construct.

Each of the three main Organizations (Machines, Merovingian, and Zion) has secured a section of the Archive that they use as a base of operations. These sections are no-PvP zones, heavily guarded by NPC members of those Organizations. Players will automatically teleport into their respective Organization’s safe zone. A player’s Organizational affiliation is determined by the player’s highest ranking reputation with the Organizations, or by their specific crew’s affiliation.

As was hinted at already, the Archive is much more than a PvP arena; it is a remnant from a much older version of the Matrix. It contains valuable secrets for those strong enough to seize them. In this particular situation, strength is measured by the ability to survive massive conflict, not only with rival Organizations, but with the Archivists themselves, who will fiercely guard their order’s secrets.

The Matrix Online team plans to open the Archive Construct to Beta testers later this month.

I heard its very different. Thats why you basicly have to be some sort of fan to like it. I heard. Still havent tried anything else then the beta, and that sucked so i wont pay for it.

If you want a very good one, go for War of Warcraft. Or someone else might say Everquest 2. While very different, they sure are better :)

Yeah, the beta wasn't a very good thing to go by. I played it and I really didn't like it. Besides some issues with gameplay and movement, it also just got really boring quick.

The two highest rated by players and most played MMORPG's right now are World of Warcraft and EVE-Online.
