With the news that 'San Andreas has been pushed back a week, to within two weeks of Halo 2's release, which do you think will bring more green in for each respective company?

My guess is 'San Andreas will own Halo 2 .

Probably GTA because PS2 has a larger number of owners.
Personally I'm looking forward to Halo 2 more, but will definitely pick up both.

I'm not too sure about GTA taking the top spot, I know that it would be my first choice but a lot of PC gamers will buy an XBOX just for Halo 2 so they don't have to wait...... I think that there are a lot more people who would play Halo than there is compared to the amount that will play GTA.

I hope I'm wrong but I expect Halo 2 to sell more

you guys are such idiots. Not only does Halo 2 have a 1,000,000,000,000 times more hype than GTA but also think of parents. Would a parent rather have their kid by a game titled GRAND THEFT AUTO with a guy and a gun on the cover or a game like Halo. Halo 2 will apeal to a larger audience. Plus Halo 2 was E3's BIGGEST event. And finally Halo 2 kicks a**!

Half-Life 2 was E3's biggest event. 'San Andreas and Halo 2 have about the same hype, why do think I made the poll? And if I'm not mistaken, GTA III is the highest selling console game of all time, needless to say plenty of people will buy 'San Andreas.

EDIT: Not to mention GTA appeals to a larger amount of people, it has almost endless varity where-as Halo 2 is strickly a FPS / Multiplayer with alittle driving on the side.

I'm going with GTA:SA on this one, mainly because of the wider release base of PS2, Xbox and PC.

And trust me, no true gamer with a l33t PC will buy an Xbox simply for Halo 2, I waited for the PC version and was not disappointed, and besides, the PC version will look better because of the power of PC's over console.

GTA will obviously sell more. I think the people that have been waiting for Halo 2 and the people that thik it will be the better game are voting for Halo 2. I myself have been waiting for both games, but the simple fact is that a parent isn't going to by Halo 2 if their child doesn't own a X-Box. More people have PS2's and all GTA a games are targetes to a broader audience. Now which game will be better? Now, that's a question we don't know yet.

I think that Halo 2 will sell more for a couple of reasons.

1) A lot of people were turned off to GTA after a somewhat disappointing Vice City. GTA 3 was one of the most revolutionary games of all time, and most people were expecting Vice City to be just as revolutionary. Instead, we got more of the same. San Andreas looks to me, like it can't miss. I will definately buy it, but I know people that won't. They think they got burned with Vice City and won't buy San Andreas.

2) Everyone that I know that has an x-box is going to buy Halo 2 November 9. Halo IMO was almost as revolutionary as GTA in the sense that it was a FPS that would make you think. The enemy would work together to try to take you and if you had a strategy it would work. The game was more than point and shoot. Halo 2 is more anticipated because of the massive following to the first one. Why? The multiplayer. Halo has arguably the best multiplayer mode of any game ever. Goldeneye for N64 might be better, but to me nothing beats Halo co-op. Now Halo 2 builds on Halo's multiplayer with x-box live play. I think almost every person that owns an xbox is going to buy Halo 2, I just can't say the same about GTA.

I am anticipating San Andreas more, but I think that sales numbers might disappoint.

In my case it does: i have a very strong personality.

But seriously, I don't know too many people that like FPSs. On the other hand, I know people who hate video games, but will gladly spend hours playing VC, killing cops and whatnot.

GTA was at E3 just only to a few select peopl. I subscribe to PSM, and they were the elect few who were taken to a room above the E3 event, and were shown a hands on preview of San Andreas. I still have the issue, but Ill have to find it. It a huge article.

Anyway, GTA will destroy Halo 2. And maybe even MGS 3 will beat Halo 2. Personally I am looking forward to MGS 3 the most.

GTA doesnt even have multiplayer(how can you say it appeals to a larger audience) and do you see a GTA PS2 edition? Uhh...let me think....NO! Halo is a 100 times better and has way more to offer. ex. graphics, gameplay, weapon, veichles, story, and locations blow GTA away. The two games are no match for eachother. Halo can wup GTA any day.

GTA does appeal to a larger audience, it mixes alot of different gameplay styles and offers a huge play area, Halo is pretty much a FPS with like Malitos said, a little bit of driving thrown in.

Graphics may be better on Halo but graphics are not everything, GTA 3 and Vice City were alot more playable IMO than Halo even though the graphics werent as good.

Gameplay being better is very debateable IMO, SA will be huge with all the different things you can do in the game, Halo is pretty limited to shooting.

Your crazy if you think Halo will have more or better veichles than SA.

SA IMO will sell more, it is going to XBOX, PS2 and PC before the end of 2005, but strictly on PS2 it will sell more than Halo 2 will on XBOX, simply because it does appeal to a larger audience, plus there are more PS2 owners.

First of all did I ever say GTA will sell more? no I did not, so your wrong wright there. Second of all Halo 2 will come out for PC also. So I guess its not strictly for XBOX. I do thank you for agreeing with me that halo 2 will have better graphics because it does(and I never said graphics were everything) And as I said early I wonder why theres no GTA PS2 edition? And when did I ever say Halo 2 will have more or better vheicles? Exactly, I didnt. And finally GTA is fun but, you run around doing a bunch of mini missions where in Halo the location actually changes. It has something called LEVELS which GTA doesnt. Oh yeah I almost forgot. Halo 2 actually has something called MULTIPAYER (M-U-L-T-I-P-L-A-Y-E-R). So I guess Halo 2 does have more to offer and its not just some FPS with a little driving. And by the way please dont misquote me again :nono: .

Yes GTA: SA will be awesome, but its just no match for the most highly anticapated game to date which is Halo 2. Im glad to get that out of my system.

What is it you mean by no GTA PS2 Edition? 'San Andreas is PS2 exclusive for a year, and then it goes to PC and Xbox. But if you mean the original GTA, it was on PS1. I don't know, I'm not really clear on what you mean by "no GTA PS2 Edition."
We know you're backing Halo 2, no one was trying to say that you said GTA would sell more, I don't know where you got that idea from.
The location does change in GTA: SA, the game takes place in an entire state. It also has levels in a sense, there are three cities that are completely different than eachother, aswell as country-sides, and the cities are like real cities ( it isn't recycled buildings around each corner ).

GTA appeals to a larger audience because alot of people won't buy FPS'. You're right in saying Halo 2 isn't just a FPS, but at it's core it is. GTA doesn't really have a genre, because there is almost limitless thing's to do. Halo was an extremely repeatitive game, theres only so many times you can kill an Alien, and from what I've seen the sequel isn't much different. GTA doesn't have that, it's completely free-roaming, go anywhere and do anything.

Saying Halo 2 is the most highly anticapated game to date is just silly, it's the most highly anticapated XBox game for sure, but most anticapated game to date? I don't think so.

We could argue this forever, and it would go nowhere because neither game can be compared to one another because they are completely different. But, we can wait for those sales figures to roll in and see who has the last laugh.

If you dont think the location in GTA doesn't change then, once again it shows your unwavering biased nature towards Halo

GTA has never been built on levels, the idea is you have this city or in SA's case, 3 cities, if you dont understand the basic idea behind GTA, you should not be arguing against it.

Oh yeah I almost forgot. Halo 2 actually has something called MULTIPAYER (M-U-L-T-I-P-L-A-Y-E-R). So I guess Halo 2 does have more to offer and its not just some FPS with a little driving.

LOL, yeah it has multiplayer but so do alot of karting games, does it make them better or make them more appealing to people, no, it usually doesnt, sure multiplayer is nice, but in a game like GTA it isn't needed.

And no, it really doesn't have that much more to offer as like Malitos said, at its core Halo is a FPS with a little bit of driving, that is what it is, just because it has multiplayer, which is also FPS and shooting doesnt add anymore to the actual gameplay elements.

And by the way please dont misquote me again :nono:.

Just proved that I didn't, maybe you should read your own posts before saying things in future.

'Grand Theft Auto' Seen Breaking Games Sales Record
Mon Oct 25, 2004 01:58 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - When the violent video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" hits stores on Tuesday, its sales could eclipse Hollywood's most successful films, even as it draws the ire of critics.

Developed by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) imprint Rockstar Games, "San Andreas" should sell more than 4.5 million units globally in its first week, which could make it one of the top sellers of all time, analysts say.

"This will be one of the few video games to sell more copies than the preceding version," said American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy, noting that the game's predecessor "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" sold 12 million copies. "The expectations are 13-15 million for this one," he added.

At about $50 each, first-week sales of 4.5 million units would equal about $225 million. Should it reach 15 million units, sales of "San Andreas" would beat U.S. and Canada box office sales of the film "Titanic" by more than $100 million.

Its debut kicks off a season of blockbusters in the global interactive game publishing market, which at over $30 billion a year, dwarfs the movie business.

"San Andreas," exclusive to Sony Corp.'s (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) PlayStation 2 console, will be followed on Nov. 9 by "Halo 2," made by Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) for its Xbox. Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) , maker of the GameCube, will have "Metroid Prime 2."

Microsoft said more than 1.5 million copies of "Halo 2" have already been pre-ordered.

VIDEO GAME VIOLENCE

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas's" plot revolves around a gangster returning to a city modeled after Los Angeles, to find his mother has been murdered and the police have blamed him for another killing. What follows is up to 150 hours of story-driven "gameplay" in which users can steal vehicles, maneuver out-of-control car chases, and shoot opponents.

"It is very violent (and includes) shooting cops," said Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "People like being the bad guy. This is a way of acting out a stupid fantasy."

Pachter adds that Microsoft's "Halo 2" is "every bit as violent, but the things that you are shooting don't look like people. They look like space suit guys."

Analysts expect "San Andreas" to stir up similar criticism to "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," released in 2002, which was condemned by family values watchdog groups and Connecticut's U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, an advocate of restrictions on violent games.

"Vice City" sales soared as game enthusiasts shrugged off the protests.

Like "Vice City," "San Andreas" carries an "M," or Mature, rating. According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board, M-rated games feature intense violence, contain sexual themes and strong language, and is suitable for persons over 17.

This time, the game will again benefit specialty stores Electronics Boutique Holdings Corp.(ELBO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) , and GameStop Corp.(GME.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , as well as larger retail chains such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , which monitors the content of the products it sells.

"If you are Wal-Mart you aren't going to miss out on selling one of the biggest titles of the year," said analyst American Technology's McNealy.

A spokesman for Wal-Mart was not available for comment.

Fueled by anticipation for "San Andreas," Take-Two shares have been strong this year. But they slipped 97 cents, or about 3 percent, to $31.58 on Monday after Banc of America Securities cut its rating to "neutral" from "buy," citing a lack of other hit titles in its pipeline.

"Beyond GTA, there remain no other blockbuster releases in Take-Two's lineup," said analyst Gary Cooper in a note to clients. "We have only moderate expectations for Rockstar's releases after San Andreas (such as "Midnight Club 3" and "The Warriors")."

I couldn't say for now, as Halo 2 has already had record breaking presales. However they don't exceed the previous GTA games, and San Andreas is more than likely to outsell those titles as well.

So yeah, I can't say for sure right now, but GTA:SA is looking there.

Probably GTA because PS2 has a larger number of owners.
Personally I'm looking forward to Halo 2 more, but will definitely pick up both.

I think you are very right. More people own PS2 that will be the only reason GTA might sell more. But i think alot more poeple are looking forward to Halo 2. I am just gonna have fun playing both. Its gonna be hard to choose a game to play haha...

If you really want to compare the two games, then I dont think it comes down to GTA:SA vs. Halo2, but a third person role playing game vs. an fps. I personally would go with the fps. GTA still got a 10 in my book and Im very sure Halo 2 will also, but I like fps's a little better.

:funny:

That actually is the point if you think about it. They're saying that GTA: SA will possibly sell more than any cinematic release ever basically. BUT, you can't say that since the two items do not have equal prices. If the two cost the same, and GTA still beat the movies out, that'd be different.

Titanic made $1,835,300,000 worldwide. Divide that by $10 and you get $183,530,000. So in other words, if every ticket price in the world is $10, over 183 million people saw Titanic. If GTA makes more money than Titanic did, it would have to sell more than 36.7 million copies. I don't think that's that fair, but, whatever.

San Andreas will win this war hands down because according to console sales figures if Rockstar meet their estimated 20 million copies, Halo 2 wont have a chance simply down to the fact that Microsoft are still targeting to sell 20 million Xbox units worldwide by the end of June 2005 therefore it would take every single one of those owners to buy a copy of Halo 2 to match Rockstars goal

halo 2 is gonna sell more cause they already got the record for most preorders so obviously more people are gonna buy it

Yesterday I reported on the amazing queues that formed in some games retailers in the UK on Friday morning, San Andreas' launch day. Today, the official UK games charts were released, with San Andreas finding its way to the top of the All Formats & PS2 charts, ahead of games like Fifa 2005, Pro Evolution Soccer 4 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2. Amazingly, UK sales monitor Chart-Track has estimated that the game sold 677,000 copies in the country alone over just two days of trading (Friday/Saturday). This brings the total sales to around £24.2million ($44.3m), and surpasses previous titles in the series like GTA: Vice City by more than double. Even more astoundingly, only 10 other PS2 titles have sold more copies in their entire lifetimes! This is great news for Rockstar North, Rockstar Games, Take 2 Interactive and of course - their shareholders.

Not bad at all.

Looks like I may owe some apologies.

" Halo 2 earned $125 million in first-day sales, breaking records for first-day earnings of any entertainment release, including the biggest Hollywood blockbusters. In other words, The Matrix got nothing on Master Chief."

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/565/565280p1.html?fromint=1

Of course we won't know until after the holiday season.

Halo sold about 2.5 million in one day while it took GTA 9 days to sell 1 million copies.

Thought I don't think they counted the UK yet.

Oh yeah....Now im convinced, knowing that it is 100 TIMES BETTER!!!

One little thing i feel i must point out...

I aint deminishing the fact that Halo 2 sold a **** load of games but the producers of GTA SA didnt make enough copies of the games to suit demand (which i think is a total lack of forward planning) so without taking away from halo 2, it isnt a fair match up to say the least

I will say GTA because many more people have PS2 than X-BOX and because I think Halo 2 is highly overrated. halo has sold alot of copies but because microsoft is so stingy Halo will never go to another console unlike GTA which is coming to X-BOX and PC.

Either you like Halo 2 GTA or something else, thats all it boils down to

I like GTA: SA.. Halo is cool, MGS is my bread and butter though...

as for what will sell more, I personally think San Andreas has the edge, just because of the past, who knows, I may be wrong.

Fanible
11-16-2004, 07:18 PM
Well it wouldn't be for years if so more than likely. Microsoft had something to do with it, to increase their Xbox sales. Something also about the first one only coming out to PC in the first place because they already had it almost finished for the PC version (because that's the one they were originally designing before signing on with Microsoft), and that Halo 2 would probably not do the same.

Either way, I wouldn't expect to see it for a long time if it ever did, as Bungie has no plans to do it at the moment (hence why you won't find info on it on any game site).

GTA: San Andreas has regained its position at the top of the UK all formats software chart, ChartTrack reports. Facing competition from multiformat titles like Need for Speed Underground, San Andreas proves its popularity once more just weeks after smashing UK sales records when over 600,000 copies sold in just two days. Microsoft's Halo 2 suffered a sharp downturn in sales, dropping to #4 behind Vivendi's new PC shooter, Half-Life 2. With seemingly no game able to topple GTA from the number one spot, do we have a Christmas Number One already?

Cool.

I have finished Halo 2. I have finished Half-Life 2.

Of the three, however, I have yet to beat GTA:San Andreas (although I think I'm close, plus I've been doing lots of the inner missions besides the main storyline missions). And while I'd hate to say it, because HF2 was pretty phenomenal, GTA:SA is probably the most fun I've had playing a game this year, let alone it being more fun, IMO, than the last two GTAs as well.

December Sales:

Xbox = 1,315,067
PS2 = 1,015,741
GC = 782,164

I am shocked to see GC sales that high especially after it did so pathetic in November. Still 532,903 less than Xbox and with the PS2 and Xbox shortages while GC didn't have any shortages it is nothing to brag about but it is still a good month for GC. Maybe people were getting ready for the greatness that is RE4. It was nice seeing Xbox do better than PS2 in the two biggest months of the year.

So the two biggest months for sales of the year combined....

Xbox: N: 746,000 + D: 1,315,067 = 2,061,067
PS2: N: 694,000 + D: 1,015,741 = 1,709,741

Guess Halo 2 Limited Edition really was a limited edition to drop to 120,367. I figured it was just a way to make extra money calling it a limited edition when they would not really be limited

So Halo 2 ended up with 4.32 million and GTA: San Andreas ended up with 3.59 million in 2004. I doubt they are not the two best selling games of the year. Even though there are so many better games that should sell better.
