Just got Nintendogs (Im usually delayed on my game purchases) and Castlevania.
Roboxeno- you should check out Advance Wars or Nintendogs to spark up your DS (if you don't own them by now). Castlevania seems ok, but I haven't touched it much so I couldn't give it a true thumbs up yet. But its gotten great reviews and everyone else seems to love it. Otherwise, Kart is coming. Be ready.
Hey Iv3rdog (I think that's the name)...did you rebuy a DS?

I was honestly wondering, all the DS haters from back when PSP launched and before, has the DS proven to you that it isn't a gimmicky piece of crap? Not asking if you want to buy one, but do you now understand why someone else might? I am not trying to be rude or fanboyish I honestly want to know your guys' opinions.

I think you're thinking that it is online or something, it is wi-fi, so another DS has to be near you and then you have to both be doing whatever your wanting to do.

European Hardware Sales
October 6-13:
NDS: 24,492
PSP: 18,723
GBA SP: 8,799
October 14-21:
DS: 23,035
GBA SP: 10,034
PSP: 8,000
October 22-29:
NDS: 30,000
GBA SP: 15,500
PSP: 12,900
Wow, I had no idea the PSP was doing this horribly in Europe as well, the GBA SP is outselling it. I really don't see any reason for the GBA to be outselling it, but I guess the price may be a bigger factor than I thought. Oh, and this is even worse for Sony when you realize that the PSP has only been out for a few months there. Maybe alot of people imported them, but that wouldn't account for sales this bad since those are hardcore gamers who would have bought them at launch anyway, these are bad coninuation sales.

Hmm...interesting find. It seems to be doing well in the states though. The last report I read said that it had sold through about 1.7 million units closing the gap between the DS which had sold about 1.97 at the time of the report. I would like to know how it is doing at present in the States. I wonder why M-create and other foreign sources don't see it as a problem to frequently release sales info free of charge...oh wait, I just remembered, corporate America is greedy. But that's another story.
Anyway, I think that I am spoiled by my DS, I don't even use buttons anymore. I'm a big fan of easy to use interfaces (which you may remember my ATM/Token booth touch screen argument WAAAY back when) and the DS just makes everything so much easier to interact with. No more toggling through menus, just touch and go (get it? ahh forget it). Not to mention the cool games. I think I'm more stoked right now because I just got some new games for the system and I just picked up Meteos.
So two questions: Which is better in your opinions, Lumines or Meteos? Secondly, how do I get my Nintendog to listen again? She was so obedient at first, now she does what the hell she wants. Any suggestions?

Lumines, I like the DS better but Lumines was friggin' amazing, the only PSP game that I really thought was a killer app.

Not sure, have you went a long time without playing or something? Maybe try just getting back to the basics and doing small tricks and then petting her for reward.
And when were those DS vs. PSP sales figures released? I personally have sold over 3 DS's (which is huge for our store) since Nintendogs came out and no PSP's. Many people actually came in asking for PSP's but after looking at the games for both they bought a DS instead. So I'm thinking that the DS has probably picked up steam lately.

Boromir, you got a new job or something? You used to post way more often. But if you do get viewtiful joe, let me know if its worth it. The Touch Screen implements look wicked, so Im hoping the game can deliver...it seems like VFX stuff is right at home on the DS. I personally don't like Castlevania (waits for the tomatoes to get thrown like Im Fozzy) but thats just me, I'm not much of action/adventure guy anymore.

anyways i'll let you guys know if i pick up VJ.
i can understand how you dont like castlevania. i wasnt a fan of the series at first either, but after sitting down w/ Aria of Sorrow and giving it another chance i've come to enjoy it. I dont think its as good as metroid, but its a good action/adventure game in its own right.

I can't find any hardware numbers for PSP, but GTA sold only 158,400 in the first week of October which is really good, but not the system seller that everyone was touting it to be. Especially when you realize that Nintendogs sold over 200,000 copies in its first week.
Here are the numbers for GBA and DS though just for good measure...
GBA = 208,000 (approx)
DS = 136,000 (approx)
I'm guessing the GBA is selling so well because of the micro, this is a lumped figure for all advance units so GBA, GBA SP and Micro are all in that number. PSP may have outsold the DS this month based on the GTA game, it probably didn't make it past the GBA though, but I have no way of knowing until I can find some hard numbers.

connectivity between the consoles and handhelds? Nintendo is likely to do it although there is nothing official...not certain if it will use the DS or wait for the next iteration of gameboy. And I believe the PSP will hook up with the PS3. Of course, Microsoft doesn't have a handheld, but supposedly with their features you can hook up your media device, which of course the PSP is, to their console, so you can potentially connect your PSP to the XBOX 360.

Someone asked a similar question to Matt of IGN's Cube channel (who's opinions I tend to share). Here was his response:
A little history here. For a time, I was a big Nintendo DS skeptic. I picked up the system and thought the ideas behind it were kind of intriguing, but the port of Mario 64 was damaged, in my opinion. Plus, a quick glance at the PSP showed that Sony's handheld was unarguably more powerful and slicker in most respects. And even now, if asked to rate the actual hardware, I would call PSP the winner without a second's hesitation.
But DS is absolutely owning PSP on the software front. I mean, there's no comparison. Nintendogs kicked off my affair with DS and Mario Kart is dominating me now. I've got Viewtiful Joe waiting to be played. Sonic Rush in the mail. And Animal Crossing DS will be here in a couple of days, too. These games are all top-notch and truly show off the potential of Nintendo's handheld.
It's pretty crazy, actually. The other night I dusted off my PSP, charged it up, popped in Burnout and gave it a spin. I had a good time. The game looks outstanding, particularly since it's running on a handheld. And it seems to retain most of the mechanics that made the console versions fan favorites. But even so, I probably spent a half hour with Burnout before I found myself itching to go back to Mario Kart DS. And I guess that just lends credence to Nintendo's philosophy that you don't need to have the flashiest game hardware or software on the block to have the best game experience.
Mario Kart is simply amazing. And I'm really psyched to play some Animal Crossing DS with Craig later this week. Meanwhile, the latest videos of Metroid Prime Hunters look absolutely phenomenal. Nintendo has really swayed me over to its side with quality software. I've really completely reversed my opinion of DS from several months ago, and likewise my feelings about PSP have shifted. I'm not nearly as keen on the system as I used to be. It's really kind of sad, actually, when the most exciting future purchase I'm making for the system is not a game, but a bigger memory stick so that I can store my television shows.
Hats off to Nintendo in a big way because I'm a DS nerd now.

From IGN's mailbag:
So last year about this time, your site had a head to head posted between the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, and which would be the new contender for handhelds. So now, a year later, how are the DS and PSP stacking up to each other? Is either making money? Does one have more or better games? And how does the old Game Boy line stack up to them? Is it still profitable?
Nintendo's always been profitable with their handheld systems and the DS is definitely no exception. Sony's is either barely making a dime on the hardware or losing a chunk for every system sold, whereas Nintendo's makes a nice little bunch of money on the hardware and software. PSP is doing well because of its mainstream IPod-like appeal, but when a game system has more movies than games in its library, it's hard to see the PSP as a game system first. Both systems are surviving and doing well, but Nintendo has definitely surprised a lot of us (in a good way) with some of their DS-related moves…as well offering up some seriously must-have games. I, personally, haven't touched my PSP in months simply because they're far more stuff on the DS I'm more interested in.

After owning both DS and PSP for a while, I've come to a conclusion. PSP is definitely the more useful system and far more functional. DS is 100 folds more fun than the PSP, and far better for gaming. I use my DS more for games, but PSP for music.

Source. I have been looking for US numbers, but could only find overall rather than weekly or monthly, but the overall was always DS favored. As for the Europe numbers, I have been hearing mixed things, one report put PSP on top but then two others found it where it usually is, below by a large margin.

Source: Numerous reports from the Web, including a report from Canada.com (http://www.canada.com/topics/bodyandhealth/sexualhealth/story.html?id=2ba1d73f-c78e-4869-963b-24dc3b06772b&k=63631?31)and Spong.com (http://spong.com/detail/news.asp?mode=news&type=n&cid=&pid=&vid=&prid=9372&n=Clitoris+Stimulator+Simulator+for+DS&cb=0.5972973).
The official story: See below.
What we heard: The Nintendo DS isn't an ordinary handheld. With its built in microphone, stylus, and touch screen, the system seems more like a plaything rather than a hardcore gaming machine. In Japan, the DS is also being used to teach users how to use their noggin a bit more with Brain Training for Adults. The game lobs various questions and brainteasers at the player in an effort to help gamers flex their brainpower.
So when reports began to surface about a DS game in development that would help lady gamers stimulate themselves--SCREEEEECH!! What? Yep, stories abound about a game titled Lapis (http://www.moboid.com/lapis/index.htm), in which a blue rabbit helps teach females the proper technique towards self-satisfaction.
The concept is simple, rub the bunny the right way and it will eventually fly into the air (and eventually land for a cigarette break, one would assume). Being the complex organism it is, Lapis won't get to flying with simple strokes or repeat maneuvers. What's more, sometimes he won't be in the mood to fly at all, leaving gamers with tired wrists all for naught.
The game was developed by Heather Kelley (picture 2, right), an employee of Ubisoft's Montreal Studios, as part of a competition at the Montreal International Games Summit. The game's subject matter was in part a response to the outcry over the Hot Coffee mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which allowed gamers to enter mini-games that showed the main character fornicating with his in-game girlfriend. Kelley won first prize for her effort.
Before you go out buying new screen protectors for your DS, take note: the game was merely a prototype made for the event. It has not been--nor is it likely to be--officially certified by Nintendo, and is not commercially available. That leaves amorously inclined DS owners with just one T-rated option for dual-screen romance--the dating game XY/XX.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus. The game exists alright, but don't EVER expect to see it on shelves.

Something that has hit me today is how successful Nintendo is with the DS at roping in the casual and non-gamers. My girlfriend, mom and two coworkers all want DS's (mom and coworkers due to nintendogs and gf due to Mario Kart and Animal Crossing). My girlfriend and one of the coworkers play games, but not on any big level, i.e. casual gamers, and the other coworker and my mom just don't play games at all, my coworker actually called the DS Nintendoods because she thought the two screen logo was two O's instead of one; also I had to go into a long explanation about how it played different games just like the game boy and that the nintendog was not built in and it would go away, as in not be right on screen, when you play another game.
They are just putting out games that are simple to use and fun to play and appeal to demagraphics that normally would not buy games, thus they expand the market as a whole and get the sales numbers that we are seeing now.

Well Konman72, I agree with you that Nintendo is getting the casual and non-gamer crowd, and while that is good for the overall industry the question remains of whether that is a good thing to brag about. Looking at the software sales between the DS and PSP point out an interesting fact, the PSP has sold more overall software while remaining below the DS in hardware sales. This points to something, the hardcore gamer buys more games. No matter how many casual and non-gamers you get to buy your console the big moneymaker is software, and since the hardcore crowd buy far more games than teh casual gamers it is a better business strategy to get as many of them as you can.
See, it is easy to look up facts and extrapolate information, opinions and ideas from it. I know this concept of facts and statistics is a foreign concept to most PSP owners (it is probably this way due to a complete unwilligness to look at the facts since they speak very harshly about their particular system).
Now of course I have a very good response to what I have just said (I would be a staunch PSP supporter if I didn't), but let's see if someone else can do it for me.
And just so everyone knows, I don't typically argue with myself, but I felt this warranted it since mister sassy pants up there decided to delegitimize what I had said.

If you are refering to the second one then I wasn't going to argue with anyone since any response someone might make to what I said would be the argument that I wanted to make, or something that I would agree with. first of all its hard to say that either of them is the ''better'' system ds is for just the opposite of what you are saying, first and foremost it is for the hardcore gamer, it does little else than play games. and the psp is a multimedia device. how can anyone call the psp a system made mainly for games when it has 5 times as many movies as games. most of the people i know don't have any games at all for their psp.

first of all its hard to say that either of them is the ''better'' system ds is for just the opposite of what you are saying, first and foremost it is for the hardcore gamer, it does little else than play games. and the psp is a multimedia device. how can anyone call the psp a system made mainly for games when it has 5 times as many movies as games. most of the people i know don't have any games at all for their psp.
I agree completely
and you guys sound realy gay explaining the points of argument of each of your posts. who the h3ll cares? and your you two's overall use of the word ''delegitimizing'' is sounding very faggish aswell. is that the word of the day on your calenders? ''so im making an opposing argument in an attempt to spark the stoppage of gay and or dumb posts since your comments effectively made all such events occur":)
Wow, lots of homophobic insults in that there post.

But i guess someone of your intelligence and tolerance level cant take that much vocabulary.
I still dont understand (konman) Why you had to post something and then Argue your own point. Why not just come out and say your point instead of trying to start an argument. (polite or unpolite)

I just wanted to start some discussion, this thread had been dieing lately. Also, I don't believe all the things I argued in the second post, as I said I just made it in jest and to further the discussion which had been stifled. I actually said my point in the original post, that was my whole point, but of course that point may be argued, and then I would need to counter that with further supporting evidence and a better explanation of my opinion. But as I said the original post was my point, my whole point and nothing but my point, everything after that was just reactionary to your sarcasm.
And yes, I only used "delegitimize once in the second post and then twice in the third, one of which was merely quoting you. It is a nice word though, I don't know why the use of it is "gay" but it seems that it angered Patman in some way.
while not a ds title, i'll probably pick up Final Fantasy IV and play it on my ds if i can find it in stores in the next few days

Im buying the DS today.. I think the PSP is cool and i do think all the multimedai functions are neat, but i just want to play games on a handheld.
The people i know that have the PSP use it for everything but games, which made my choice easier. I Want a gaming system. so i guess the ds wins for now.
altough when the price of psp drops. i will probably get one of those as well.

ofcourse you're going to go w/ the ds, all i had to do was scroll down the page and see half the effort on the psp section. you dont even have a picture.
anyways i'll be going with the DS.
y would you go with the nintendo ds? its not that great. Take this from a person who has every game system i have xbox, ps2, ps1 ps3 (reserved 1) nintenjdo revolution ( again reserved 1) all the gameboys psp ds and xbox 360 with every game know if u can tell me that the ds cant live up to the psp then you serously have something wrong with u

and the psp has sold what, 3maybe4 million worldwide? this quotes all 453 posts i have supporting the ds and the slightly fewer posts i have saying the ds would outsell the psp by far. which, will repeat itself in the console war. how many of you swore up and down that the ds would crash and burn. selling about three times as many as the psp. im not stating which is the better system, because i love my two handhelds equally, just which is doing better. which is just how the revolution-ps3-xbox360 war will end up revolution first ps3 second and the threesixty in third. nintendo will soon reclaim its title as video game king. how can you dispute this?

why not? the 360 is selling poorly in the states and canada ect. and horribly in japan. the ps3 will be out of control costly, and here we have the revolution that will attract not only the hard-core gamer but an entire genre of new players, has one hell of a sleek look to it, the best this gen, right up there with the psp, and is going to be extremely affordable. combine that with the online play, for the first time with nintendo, and the 35,000 strong library of downloadable games, a launch of 50+ titles and a release after the rest right before the holidays making it the newest thing out there, i think it is a perfect time for nintendo to reclaim its top spot...for good...or this gen anyway. my logic is undenyable.

How in the world can you say the 360 is selling poorly?! Its sold out everywhere! (except Japan of course, which is understandable due to the lack of launch titles)
I dont know why you say the PS3 will be "out of control costly". The latest reports are saying it will be $500 which a lot of people will pay for because of the blu-ray player.
50+ launch titles for the Rev.? A library consisting of 35,000 downloadable games? I have no idea how you got those numbers. You know all this how?.....
All of that doesnt even matter though. The Rev WILL NOT take the top spot this gen. Some people (including myself so far) arent interested in their controller. Maybe when I know more about it, I'll change my mind. Dont forget the Rev wont support HD either which I think will really hurt them. And of course Nintendo's lack of third part support. And I dont agree about its sleek look. I think its pretty bad looking. And btw, Nintendo hasnt said anything about online play. Only downloading games online I believe.
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/670/670509p1.html
unless the ds wi-fi thing completely flops rev is going to go online
50+ launch titles? source? i doubt they'll have more then 15 at launch, and i bet alot of them will be crappy mini games that focus on their new controller.
but yeah, i highly doubt rev will take top spot. maybe it will take the number 2 spot, but i doubt that even. its different then with the ds, they dont have a monopoly on the console industry like they did with the handheld. i'll definately be getting one just for my metroid and zelda games, but i dont see it taking over the market.
edit: rev is definately online, nintendo even managed to get it up on their site http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=5aa8631e-d4a0-45d9-a88c-e5931b807091&page=newsmain

why not? the 360 is selling poorly in the states and canada ect. and horribly in japan.
It sold out. The DS sold poorly last week in Japan, you know why? Cause it sold out, that isnt bad sales it is too good of sales. They do need to get more out there, but it is still selling as well as physically possible.
the ps3 will be out of control costly,
Recent reports place it at or below $400 with the most it could cost being $500-$600. Most people will be willing to buy this.
and here we have the revolution that will attract not only the hard-core gamer but an entire genre of new players, has one hell of a sleek look to it, the best this gen, right up there with the psp, and is going to be extremely affordable. combine that with the online play, for the first time with nintendo,
That is all excellent, but the games decide who takes number 1 and you know that. The controller is unproven tech. if they use it to its fullest (and by this I mean every game is AAA) then they have a chance at number 1, but if it is just successful (which is still amazing, with every game being good and many being new classics) which is more likely, then it will take number 2 and position Nintendo for a take over down the road.
and the 35,000 strong library of downloadable games,
35,000 strong? They haven't even confirmed a single third-party title yet. As of now all that we know will be on there are Nintendo made games. Also, we have no idea how it will work, if it is too pricey then it wont make much of a difference.
a launch of 50+ titles
There aren't even 50+ games announced yet ya dingbat.
and a release after the rest right before the holidays making it the newest thing out there, i think it is a perfect time for nintendo to reclaim its top spot...for good...or this gen anyway. my logic is undenyable.
The launch is cool, but the 360 and PS3's head start already puts the Rev. in the hole by the time it releases.
This isn't logic, it is random fact generation to prove an unproveable theory.
I love Nintendo, and love the Rev. even more. They are doing alot of things right, if they continue then they have a chance, but no way in hell is it guaranteed that they will take number 1 this gen. If they take number 2 then it will be a huge success and possibly position themselves for future dominance.

There are still major issues you're not addressing. Like bad third party support, zero HD capabilities, and not nearly as powerful as the 360 or PS3. Because of issues like that, theres no way Nintendo will come out on top.
Anyway, if we want to continue this we should talk about in your PS3 vs. 360 vs. Rev. Lets try to stay on topic in this thread.
the problem with your theory is that alot of xbox and playstation fans wont be getting a revolution. if you're judging they all will because of the people who post here, you would be coming to the wrong conclusion because the minority of gamers post on message boards, and the minority of gamers get multiple consoles. i have too much time on my hands and nothing constructive to funnel my money into, which is why i play and spend money on games. alot of kids at school own an xbox or ps2 just to play games like halo and madden. outside of 2 or 3 people of the few score i speak with and over hear about gaming couldnt care less about nintendo, zelda, or metroid because it is kiddie. i love nintendo and alot their games and what they've done for the industry, but lets try to be realistic here.
i'd love to see nintendo take a larger share of the market, maybe it will happen, maybe it wont. i am however almost certain they will not regain thier position on top because they cant seem to appeal to the mainstream gamer. frankly i dont want them to. If each of the 3 big names can maintain a near equal market share and we can get increased competition we'll see an increase in quality in the games and systems.

The PSP is what I like to call the "Crappy Port of the Month" system. Not only are you playing old console games, you're also playing worse versions of 'em. Huzzah! And the best part is the folks who port these pieces over don't realize that the games were not originally designed with portability in mind and so are not particularly good for on-the-go gaming, which just happens to be the WHOLE F***ING POINT of the PSP. Good job, guys!
Don't worry, though. Crappy Port of the Month can play movies worse than just about any portable DVD player out there. And you also have to buy proprietary versions of these movies because EVERYONE WANTS A SECOND COLLECTION OF THE EXACT SAME THING ONLY WORSE. Right? Sounds like a great product!
Now when I look at the PSP I see a machine that's actually designed to rip me off. It's a machine that requires me to pay extra money for inferior versions of s*** I neither need nor want. And I remember how fondly I anticipated it. Boy was I wrong.
It's 2006, Sony. Start fresh! Let's get this portable wonder rolling."

PSP outsold the DS by 1 million in 2005, yes. But DS is still outselling it overall, so rather than put out some good news tainted with the overall truth I just let it be.
The reason it outsold it btw, is because that is the year it launched, DS sold 1.4 mil. the year before because that is when it launched. DS sales started to rise above PSP in the later months of the year.

It's very sad but it honestly is the very first system that I have ever considered selling/trading in while it was still a viable system. THERE ARE NO GAMES!!! I haven't bought a single game on the dang thing since Burnout, and hadn't bought one since launch before that. I have dwindled my collection down to 3 games total and unless things get better soon it might go bye-bye. The saddest part is that the one reason I still own it is because Matrix just came out on UMD....sad.

hmmm... lets see, i want to play a totaly awesome game i usually play at home while im on the go while still looking cool with a sleek new handheld... i want to watch NEW movies that i DONT already have while on the go without a clunky "portable" dvd player...hmm i also want to listen to all my favorite songs on the go.... oh yeah and throw in a decent web browser for casual web browsing..... hmm he is right i should spend $200 or more on a decent mp3 player, $200 or more on a decent "portable" dvd player, another console costing atleast $100 bucks for the car to hook up to my "portable" dvd player, a grand or more for a laptop, AND carry them all around with me enstead of buying the awesome looking $250 psp that fits into my pocket, he is right spending >$600 (not even counting the laptop for argumentative reasons) on many items that do a slightly better job is much better than $250 bucks on one sleek, tiny portable device, that you udate every couple a months for free is the dumbest thing i have ever heard in my entire life, this is quite possibly the smartest guy i have ever heard of, and the points he makes are more than enough reason for the mass world that owns one to throw it away and spend their hard earned money on things that do a slightly better job, what was sony thinking? portability, functionality, style, these are all irrelevant things in this man's mind, to whome is exactly who sony needs to check with before they make any more massive mistakes like this one. you found yourself a smart one konman......

hmmm... lets see, i want to play a totaly awesome game i usually play at home while im on the go while still looking cool with a sleek new handheld... i want to watch NEW movies that i DONT already have while on the go without a clunky "portable" dvd player...hmm i also want to listen to all my favorite songs on the go.... oh yeah and throw in a decent web browser for casual web browsing..... hmm he is right i should spend $200 or more on a decent mp3 player, $200 or more on a decent "portable" dvd player, another console costing atleast $100 bucks for the car to hook up to my "portable" dvd player, a grand or more for a laptop, AND carry them all around with me enstead of buying the awesome looking $250 psp that fits into my pocket, he is right spending >$600 (not even counting the laptop for argumentative reasons) on many items that do a slightly better job is much better than $250 bucks on one sleek, tiny portable device, that you udate every couple a months for free is the dumbest thing i have ever heard in my entire life, this is quite possibly the smartest guy i have ever heard of, and the points he makes are more than enough reason for the mass world that owns one to throw it away and spend their hard earned money on things that do a slightly better job, what was sony thinking? portability, functionality, style, these are all irrelevant things in this man's mind, to whome is exactly who sony needs to check with before they make any more massive mistakes like this one. you found yourself a smart one konman......
.....ummmm.....yeah.
I think he was kind of talking about games and umd's there Pat. You could buy a portable DVD player, that plays *gasp* DVD's, and the DS, which plays *gasp* good games, for much less than the PSP.
Also, why would you want to play the same game you have at home? Especially when you have to pay $50 for it? And it wasn't made to be played on the go, it was made to be played in a sit down environment where you can play for hours, not for five minutes on the bus.
Look, the PSP is a gaming system. If you say that it isn't then thats fine, but it is at least supposed to be one. And yet the only games that come out nowadays are "crappy ports" of home console games. If you want to use the PSP as a music and video player then that is fine too (the ipod however is better at both, but lets just forget about that shall we), but it is supposed to be a video game machine first and foremost. It is failing at its main function and has chronic problems with many of its others.
As this guy says the PSP needs games that are made for the PSP, not made for the PS2 and then put on the PSP. Also, umd's are cool, but why the hell do they cost as much or more than DVD's? The umd is not meant to be my primary source of movies and thus should cost less than the more important format. When a movie comes out that I like I buy the DVD and then think about buying the umd, not the other way around.
Portability, functionality, and style are cool and all, but I (and many others) spent $250 of my money to play some good games and maybe watch some cool movies and listen to music as well. When the system fails in all the areas it kind of makes you reconsider the purchase.
Anywho....

January 2 - 8, 2006
PSP - 132,757
Nintendo DS - 91,379
PS2 - 80,886
Game Boy Advance SP - 17,443
GameCube - 13,423
Game Boy Micro - 11,818

Game Boy Micro - 6,341
X360 - 6,107
GameCube - 5,465
Game Boy Advance - 233

Now, the shortage continues, but rather than DS sales go down and everything else remain the same, PSP sales drop drastically and...

Nintendo DS - 64,515
PSP - 38,271
PS2 - 26,135
Game Boy Advance SP - 7,912
Game Boy Micro - 4,653
GameCube - 4,490
X360 - 3,616
Game Boy Advance - 236

DS is back on top.
Also, look at the top ten games for last week...
January 16 - 22, 2006
1. 100,538 - Brain Training 2 (DS)
2. 79,363 - Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

9. 19,319 - Gentle Brain Exercises (DS)
10. 18,669 - Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (DS)
8 DS games! DS owns Japan completely.
Did you guys know that used DS's are selling for $300 in Japan?
Anywho...
Rumors are swirling about a PSP redesign to combat the DS redesign. Probably a good idea for Sony since the DS Lite will rejuvenate sales, so they will need something to combat that.
What PSP games are people looking forward to right now? I'm lost as far as PSP goes and would like something new to play besides Burnout.
P.S. Isn't it a little sad that the 360 is being beaten by the Gamecube? WOW, they have some work ahead of them if they dont want a repeat of last gen.

I respectfully disagree. As a Nintendo fan (note the absense of "boy") I have to argue all the time and have very few people agree with me. Patman can get bad but he is really the only Nintendo fanboy here while we have a few Sony and a few Microsoft, they may not be as bad, but there are most definately more. Also on another forum, there is not a single Nintendo fanboy, only one other person who likes Nintendo and then there are at least 3 staunch Xbox fanboys and 2 Sony fanboys. This is all my personal experience and I in no way attempt to place that onto the whole world, but look at this forum. Only me and Patman defend Nintendo, with maybe one or two people who crop up with random agreement, while we have many people argue with us all the time. Hell, look at the poll, PSP is winning so there are far more Sony fans here than there are Nintendo.

Patman: Titled PSP Losers.
I go with the Nintendo ds. Hands down no competition. Here are my reasons:
1.Sony sucks.
2. Playstation sucks.
3. Playstation Fanboys suck.
Ok now that I got that off my chest here are the rational reasons:
DS- has two screens one main screen and one that is a touch screen that comes with a stylus to basically instant message people with unlimited possibilities for games that now have the option to play on two screens at once. Short version: 2 screens, 2 cool.
vs
PSP- well the psp has A screen, and its not a touch screen. Ok we haven’t seen this before. Gives gamers a whole new experience playing on one screen. . . . WOW! I am awe-inspired. I’m sure it bedazzled every one else to. lol
Ok let’s look at the design.
DS- the Nintendo ds has a new sleek design apart from the tacky old one. Its sleek design allows for easy carrying and fits in your pocket. It has the clam shell look not just because it looks cool, but for a reason. When your done playing you simply fold it up and you don’t have to worry about scratching the screens up like the ancient ones Nintendo used to make…. and the psp sony is making now. Its new futuristic sleek design sets it apart from all the other handhelds on the market.
vs
PSP-Ok ill give the psp its props it looks really familiar, hmmm could it be it looks exactly like the freaking first gameboy advance except longer? Oh wait I’m wrong, this one is black. C’mon people if you like it for its “sexy” design, save $275 bucks and buy a freaking gameboy advance.
DS- Lets look at cost. The ds is supposed to cost between 100-200 dollars. I don’t need to say any more.
vs
PSP- The psp is supposed to cost about $300$ the price of 2 playstation2’s. Me, I’d take the playstations.
DS- How about what they can do. The ds can instant message other ds’s with the WiFi technology now being used. It has 2 screens. It has a touch screen. It is backlit. Awesome speakers that are an upgrade from a regular stereo or cd players. Microphone: An available microphone port means that in the future, players might need only to tell their games what to do. DS software could identify everything from voice commands to hand-clapping. Players might be able to move their characters simply by telling them which way to go. The voice capabilities also could allow gamers to chat with one another over the Internet while playing. Did I mention it has 2 screens? DS users will be able to connect with a local wireless network of up to 16 players. Nintendo's guaranteed range is 30 feet. Wireless Game Sharing: If software developers desire, multiple players can compete in wireless games, even if only one person has a game card inserted. Players could also test-play games for themselves as long as they stayed connected. All of this not to mention it comes with a rechargeable lithium battery. All this plus more I left out and is yet to be revieled. <like the mysterious port that they wouldn’t tell anyone anything about>.
vs
PSP- The psp can, well it can do what the game boy advanced did 3 years ago. The only difference I see is the analog stick and a minidisk that failed in their other try to make it successful <the minidisk> that is a lot less durable than a cartridge for the ds. Oh and it has a little better graphics than the gameboy advanced, but not by much.
DS-The Games. Ds has a wide variety of games that I have been looking forward to. Im not going to list them. Just look em up.
vs
PSP- The psp has about a million garbage games and the few good ones it does have the Nintendo ds also has, plus better ones. So I go with quality, rather than quantity. But if you think of it the other way around the Nintendo ds can also play gameboy advanced games so that more than doubles the psp’s game list to start with.
I love debate so all of you psp losers post something to defend your beloved system.

That's my thing right now, both PSP and DS have pretty slim pickings for the next month or so. But I guess that is standard for post-holiday months, for any system. Guess we'll have to wait until E3 before we start seeing AAA titles showing up.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'd pick one up but I don't have the cash, plus there hasn't been anything that jumps out at me (except an unconfirmed Persona and Suikoden remake). The Xbox thing I disagree with, I played my Xbox more then the PS2 and about the same as GameCube, although this has a lot to do with the multiplatform games being better for Xbox, there is still plenty of great games for the system. You just have to look. It really was a pretty good system. 360, I dunno about...
so...any good games coming out soon?
Not really....although DS does have Resident Evil coming out this month in a few weeks, and PSP has Street Fighter 3 Alpha (but how many times does that game need to be ported?)

Anybody here excited about Resident Evil DS? I am kind of, but it could REALLY suck so I'm hanging back for the reviews.
I suppose it'll be as good as the original PS1 game. It's basically a direct port with some spruced up graphics here and there and some added touch screen stuff and extras, enough to make it worth playing again. It has all the movies and voice acting, from what I've seen of the japanese version. If you like the original RE's I'm sure you'll like it. I'm planning on getting it when it first comes out. :)

Here's the sales figures from Japan.
January 23 - 29, 2006
Nintendo DS - 106,081
PSP - 30,657
PS2 - 24,580
Game Boy Advance SP - 5,946
Game Boy Micro - 3,042
GameCube - 3,036
X360 - 1,976
Game Boy Advance - 179
Xbox - 128
The DS is still having huge supply issues, they are actually reimporting US systems and selling them for above $200.

wow. the xbox 360 is doing worse than the gamecube and sold what about fifty times less systems than the ds? thats horrible even for japan standards.

DS Download Service: Starting next month, Nintendo will offer all DS owners free downloadable game demos and other downloadable content at thousands of participating retail locations around the United States. An in-store kiosk will beam wireless demo versions of games and other downloadable content into a players' Nintendo DS system. Users simply stop by the store with their Nintendo DS, click "DS Download Play" on their system and choose one of a variety of DS games they want to sample. The game will download automatically and users can play all they want (even if they leave the store) until the Nintendo DS is turned off.
Sequentially, players can try out as many games as they want, letting them test drive the wide array of games that can only be played on Nintendo DS. The first DS Download Service stations will include free demos of Tetris® DS, Brain Age™: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, Mario Kart® DS, Meteos™, True Swing Golf and Pokémon® Trozei, along with a Metroid® Prime Hunters video clip. The selection of games and other downloadable content at DS Download Service kiosks will refresh quarterly.
Metroid Chat: The new Metroid Prime Hunters game for Nintendo DS will give gamers the ability to chat directly with one another before and after matches played via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Players in North America simply click the chat icon and say what they have to say. The microphone of the Nintendo DS picks up voice communication and transmits it to the people on their friend list. Players can use the chat function before a match to agree on settings or after a battle to relive their glories. This Teen-rated first-person adventure arrives March 20 and promises to open a dramatically fun new facet of gaming to Nintendo fans.
Nintendo DS Momentum: Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection now boasts more than 21 million different connections, representing more than 860,000 unique users worldwide. Nintendo DS has enjoyed extremely strong sales worldwide, selling more than 14.4 million units worldwide through December. The Japanese sell-through of the existing Nintendo DS hardware exceeded 5 million within 13 months, which made Nintendo DS there the fastest-selling video game launch ever. In addition to Metroid Prime Hunters, Tetris DS also launches March 20. Using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, up to four players can compete in wireless two- or four-player Tetris DS battles against friends or strangers, near or far.
Nintendo DS Lite: The lighter, brighter Nintendo DS system goes on sale in Japan next month. Nintendo DS Lite is about two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter. Its availability in other regions will be announced at a later date."

Read anything by a PSP supporter.
Also this is always done by Nintendo. I doubt that it takes time away froma nything else, they just set up a couple of guys to put together a new design and then push it out the door. It is meant to boost sales and usually works quite well.

powerstone coming to PSP!
Enhanced versions of Dreamcast brawlers brought together for PSP release later this year.
A pair of oft-overlooked Dreamcast brawlers are getting a second chance at life later this year in the form of a portable compilation. Capcom today announced Power Stone Collection for the PSP, a one-two punch of Power Stone and Power Stone 2. The game is set for a North American release in the fourth quarter of 2006.
The Power Stone series of 3D fighters eschewed the dense layers of strategy one might find in a franchise like Virtua Fighter in favor of a more frantic, lighthearted take on the genre. One of the series' big selling points was its array of interactive environments, which sought to deliver the simple thrill of beating people up with whatever furniture was at hand. For Power Stone 2, Capcom upped the chaos inherent to the series' fights by adding four-player melees to the mix.
Capcom is promising a number of enhancements and revisions for both games, starting with ad hoc wireless multiplayer battles using just one copy of the game. Both titles will also feature a number of new weapons and a new camera system designed with the PSP in mind; players will be able to toggle between wide, close, and midrange views of the action in the middle of a fight.
There are also a number of game-specific enhancements included. The original Power Stone's roster will be joined by the four new characters from Power Stone 2, and the game's interface has also been overhauled with redesigned health bars and arrows on the radar screen indicating the location of loose power stones. For Power Stone 2, Capcom is including an adventure mode that retains the original's item creation mechanic with several new items added to the mix, and a Bomber Battle minigame that wasn't included in the Dreamcast version of the game.
For more on Power Stone Collection, check out GameSpot's full coverage of Capcom's Gamers' Day event (http://www.gamespot.com/features/capcom06/index.html).

You seem quite bitter.
The DS Lite (http://1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3148295) has run into some minor production problems and, so, they will only release white units for the first week with the other colors following after. This will probably cause some minor problems seeing as how the DS is completely sold out in Japan right now, they need those things like we need air.

Yes, you did. Notice how much pricier the PSP is? That's what you pay for, the hardware and its functions.
As for Nintendo charging for the browser, well that is kind of a given since they have to work on it and actually produce a cartridge for it, whereas the PSP can just download it. While this is a good thing for the PSP you have to ask yourself if it is worth the extra $100. Also, add up the cost of all the DS's extra features and it still comes out at a lower price than the PSP without the extra stuff downloaded.
BTW, are you pissed off at Sony for charging for the media manager? I mean you can't get videos and stuff on there without some kind of one, why should Sony charge for it?
Oh, and I am definately getting a Lite, those things are slick.

As am I. You don't have to pay for most of those for the DS, but the ones you do are a result of the hardware not being able to do that specific function without an add-on. The PSP comes with those add-ons already there, like a memory stick or the ability to play movies. You may not realize it but you pay for all that stuff on the PSP as well because it costs Sony money to put a memory stick reader in there, and it costs them money to put a video and mp3 player in the PSP, and instead of leaving it up to you which ones you get they just slapped them in there and bumped the price up $50 or so.
Of course the PSP cost more than the DS, that's like saying the PS3 cost more than te PS2
Ever wonder why the gamecube is less expensive than the PS2 even though it is more advanced hardware? Pop a DVD into your PS2 and you have your answer.

Hey, if you want to steal all the DS add-ons as well then they are free too.
EDIT: Tycho from Penny-Arcade apologizes for pushing the PSP (http://penny-arcade.com)
"You have seen me express - in a sincere and heartfelt way - my shame in having pushed the PSP on you with such vigor. I've explained why I did it, and I think the reasons are sound, let us never speak of it again."
He does go on to explain that Daxter is the antithesis of all other PSP games so far, hopefully he is right, maybe my PSP collection can double in size...to 2.
Here (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2005/09/02) is the original one where he states that the DS has won him over. There are probably more, I'm looking into it now.

debating on a topic hardly qualifies any of us as "fanboys". i dont think there are ANY fanboys of nintendo, sony, or microsoft on this site. a fanboy would own only that system and swear against all others. by sheer definition you cannot call any of us fanboys. i simply cannot fathom what you are even doing on this thread, or even the "video games" board. you simply do not have enough knowledge, as blatantly displayed by your ill use of this term, to discuss anything about video games.
anyway. it seems that the ds lite is more than doubling the sales, and really putting it to the psp.
"The Nintendo DS outsold Sony's PSP handheld 2-to-1 from Feb. 27 – Mar. 5 in a report released from Media Create.
The new Nintendo DS Lite sold 68,438 units in its debut week, while the standard model sold 49,118 units.
Sony's PSP handheld sold 43,110 units, or less than half the number of Nintendo DS hardware units sold.
Customers queued in front of electronic stores last week in Japan to be among the first to purchase the Nintendo DS Lite.
Nintendo will release two additional Lite colors to retail on Mar. 11.
While PSP sales were distant from the DS, Sony's PS2 and PSP software took five out of the top ten software sales in the same week."
guess it was an awesome move of nintendo putting out the ds lite. think sony will redo the psp? i doubt it though...

How does posting something that someone else said qualify me as a fanboy? I love Penny Arcade and trust alot of what they say when it comes to gaming, to see one of them actually apologize for hyping a system intrigues me and so I decided to share it. As I have said, I own both the DS and PSP and at one point actually preferred my PSP, go back and check, you'll find about 10 posts where I say that the PSP is better. No fanboy would ever admit to preferring the competitions system.
The truth is you are resorting to the exact same tactic that most people on a losing side of an argument do, argumentum ad hominem, or the fallacy of personal attack. You are faced with evidence that takes away from your opinion and instead of arguing against that you decide to argue against the person making the argument. You think that by tearing down the person saying something you destroy the thing they are saying. Sadly, this works most of the time, but it is not good debate.
Note: I hope noone construes this as me saying my opinion is objective or right, I know that it most certainly is not, anyone can like the PSP or DS more and be as "right" as anyone else.

I doubt it as well, the PSP costs too much to warrant a redesign. Nintendo puts out a new one, you trade in your old one and end up spending an additional $50 at most, Sony makes a new one and it will end up costing you $100 at the least.
EDIT: Looks like the PSP may be getting a couple of good games...
Daxter: 9.0 (http://psp.ign.com/articles/694/694798p1.html)
Syphon Filter: 9.3 (http://psp.ign.com/articles/695/695160p1.html)
Hopefully they can continue this trend and build up a solid lineup.

who cares who you were reffering to. broad generalizations that make no sence are simply not welcomed by anyone with the cro-magnon phase of the human brain or higher, and are only made by that of those with lesser intelligence. what i am saying is if you are not adding anything to the conversation, or introducing something new to the thread, or can't understand what we are talking about, do not stoop to name calling, especially names that make no sence and have no funny value. peace.:)

You know, so many people say that, but then I look at the games they own sitting by the system and it usually consists of Agent Under Fire, Smash Bros. (not bad but not the only game I'd own), and Xtreme Racing Football Sports Racing etc. :P (Nice icon btw Drizzt)

im curios when they are going to start focusing on the GAMES you know, the main function of the frigging thing, or is it not sapposed to be a game system, if so and they keep pushing everything else while ignoring new, original games the psp will end up like the n-gauge, maybe not today or tommorow, but eventually. not saying it will, because i love my psp, but i calls em as i sees em.

We'll have to wait and see, but imo those are worthless features, but as I said it doesn't affect me to put extra features in there so I really don't care, but when they are used as evidence of "ownage" as my dear friend Drizzt did then I must comment.
Also. Why dont you guys give it a rest. All this thread is is Patman and Konman sucking up to how great nintendo is.
I only comment when I have what I believe is a valid opinion, just because you disagree and cannot provide ample evidence to prove your point is no cause for snide, demeaning comments such as this and your many past posts. Patman and I may talk alot about how good the DS is but that is truly what we believe, we both own both a DS and PSP and have formulated our opinions based solely on our tastes in games and the offering from each system. Please do not disrespect us just because we are different from you:nono:

hmmm. . . . . . . lets see this would be the Nintendo DS vs. psp thread . . . . . . . . . lets see i give my opinion on what i believe, konman gives his opinion on his beliefs, we back them up with facts, examples, links, pictures and any other source we see fit to validate our opinions, that happen to be similar in many cases and other people give their opinions on what they believe contredicting our opinions, and we converse back and fourth in a gentlemenly manner. . . . . whoops! i guess we forgot, Nintendo ds vs. psp is a DEBATE thread! thats not what a debate is!..............oh wait, that would happen to be the very definition of one. just like konman said, just because you cannot adequately keep up with it doesnt mean you have to shout caveman like phrases to vent your cro-magnon like anger. pfff neanderthaws.

Sorry if we are talkative, but seriously every time we say something you have to stick some negative comment in there so it isn't just us. Besides looking back a few pages I really don't see myself posting any more than anyone else, and less than a few. I'm sure that if Patman or I were spamming this thread then a mod would say something.
