Hey, I just got a new computer, and I would like to get one, possibly two new games for it. So, since i am kinda new to the PC world of games, i was wondering if you guys could help me decide. Just list your top two or three games that you think are the best. I am mainly looking for action/shoot-em-up type games (i.e. not sports, puzzle, etc). Thanks!

Two words. . . . . . . HALF-LIFE.
The best game ever IMO and you don't need a super, expensive computer to run it.

My favorite PC game ever is Warcraft III Reign of Chaos.
My friends current favorite game is Call of Duty, however Doom 3 is like that hottest thing right now. I'm sure you can't go wrong with it if your comp can handle it.

Half Life
Doom 3
Rainbow 6 three: Raven Shield
Yes all I play is FPS.
can anyone give a basic review of: half life, Rainbowsix3, and counter strike. These were some of the games i was already looking at, and the fact that they have been brought up strengthens my decision. Out of those three which would you recommend? Oh, and aren't half life and counterstrike made by the same people?

Well, if you're looking for a great shoot-em-up, look no further than Aliens vs. Predator 2.

I agree with Escobar. AVP2 is a great game that only cost $20.
And btw WCIII is A LOT better than WCII and I. Seriously man, you can now get the battle chest whic comes with WCIII and it's expansion Frozen Throne, for what I think is $40.

Yeah, get AvP2, and when playing LAN multiplayer, do it like this
4 Marines:1 Predator and have the Marines hunt the Predator
Its the most awesome way to play it.
And get SoF 1 and 2, Halo and UT 2004 :D

Halo sucks, dont get that.
About Rainbow six - Raven shield (there is also an expansion pack called athena sword - more guns, models, maps etc). A very good tactical game. You controll 2-3 groups (you choose) of special forces. Each group on 2-3 people. Its FPS. Very tactical and stelthy. Recomended if you are into tactical shooters.
Counter-strike: You will be better off with whiping your ass with your money then to spend it on a game that actually is free over the web. Its some money trick Valve tryied out. And to be honest, i cant stand valve for doing that. (though i will still buy Half life 2). Avoid at all cost. Also avoid counter strike - condition zero. Its the same ballpark.
System Shock 2 (as where mentioned above) is still one of the best games i have ever played, but if you are not into old games with out dated graphics then avoid this. If you dont mind, then buy this. If you like this then you should also buy Deus Ex 1. Also one of the best games of all time (imo). Its the same style as system shock 2, though not the same setting. Avoid Deus Ex 2. Its very bad, compared to the first game.
SoF 1 - Its kinda cool. Its just a basic shoot-em-up game. Just run around shoot people. No particular story or anything. Not realistic, but it can be fun :) The game has got a early hitpoint system. So when you hit the leg, the leg fall off, if you hit the arm, the arm fall off etc.... probaly an R rated title in the US. not sure.
SoF 2 - Not as good as the first game, but still an ok game. Nothing new or groundbraking. Used a somewhat modified quake III engine.
UT2004 - If you want cracy ass fragging and gibbing then this is the game for you. Mind you, this game has nothing even close to do with realism. This is only fun mega frag game. Its a multiplayer only game (though you can play it offline with bots - and they are kinda good in ut2004). Also there is a new packadge of ut2004 coming up now. With more maps, more weapons, more tanks and stuff. Its a futuristic (like the year 2400 or something :) ) multi mayhem shooter. Very cool.
there :)

Half life was crowned the best game ever a few months back when Gamespy held a tournament of over 100 games. Just buy it. Buy the platinum pack for $40 so you can get counterstrike as well

Deus Ex is one of the best PC games of all time if you ask me. Def worth your picking up. Warcraft 3 is a huge step up from the second one as well cause you can develop heros and not just play with the run of hte mill characters.
Two must haves.

Well....this a question like "whats the best fruit?" Theres too many too really pick from. But I'll try:
Medal of Honor and Call of Duty are two of the best PC games I've ever played. They're both sweet FPS games with a lot of historical authenticity. Both have sequels coming out soon that will dominate!
Don't care what anyone says, Chris Sawyer makes some seriously addictive "sim-ish" games. The Rollercoaster Tycoon series is a great example of a good clean PC game that has great replay value, as lots of things can be changed that give way to a totally different outcome. His next game, Locomotion looks to be equally as addictive as his previous games too. So I'm sure that'll do well.
Warcraft and Starcraft are both ridiculously fun and addictive games too. Just all around fun and a never-gets-boring kinda thing. While some levels may seem overly tedious, they're always satisfying once you build up a devastating army.
So there's lots of options to choose from, and I know I'm leaving out so many. Didn't even touch MMOs...arrggg.....mind is about to explode.

Andrey....I'm pretty sure that CoD 2 is confirmed, per the "Call of Duty 2 Confirmed" page on gamespot. Check it out.

Hmmm...are you sure?
What i know of is:
Call of duty: Finest hour. That is the first call of duty converted to console. Coming soon.
Call of Duty: United Offence. Expansion pack to Call of duty for PC. Coming soon.
Official page has nothing on a sequel. Neither has tothegame who monitor every statement made by developers. And also monitor every rumor around. Nothting comes up there either.
I'm not saying you are wrong, just i've never heard of it......
Edit: my bad :)
Activision announces Call of Duty 2
Following today's earnings announcement from Activison, CEO Ron Doornink took part in a conference call with analysts. Apparently unsatisfied with announcing an impressive release schedule for Activison's fiscal year 2005 (April 2004 to March 2005), he revealed a massive slate of titles for the following 12 months.
One of the titles he mentioned was Call of Duty 2. No other info was given at this time
you are right :D
