Just some info for thouse that don't know this yet about the upcoming prequels,spin-offs, and sequels to FFVII...
Info gathered from... http://ff.warcry.com/content/ffviibc/ff7_bc.php
A new game featuring Vincent from Final Fantasy VII will join a new mobile title and Advent Children game as part of the Final Fantasy VII Compilation project.
TOKYO--Following the announcement of a computer-generated movie and mobile online game, Square Enix will continue to expand its Final Fantasy VII Compilation project, a new line of products based on the immensely popular Final Fantasy VII. According to VJump magazine, Square Enix will announce a major game that features Final Fantasy VII’s Vincent in the near future. A promotional statement in the magazine reads, "Another intense title will be joining the Final Fantasy VII project!" This is followed by a sentence underneath that reads, "That character is going to appear in a soon to be announced major title!" Alongisde the two statements is a silhouette of Vincent, a major character from Final Fantasy VII. While Square Enix has yet to release any details on the game, some speculate that--because it is a part of the Final Fantasy VII Compilation--the game will be a spin-off of Final Fantasy VII.
Launched earlier this month, the Final Fantasy VII Compilation aims to capitalize on the success of Final Fantasy VII by releasing new games and products based on the hit role-playing game. Three products have been announced as part of the project so far: the CG movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Childen, which will be released on DVD and the PSP’s UMD format; Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, an online game for mobile phones; and a mobile phone from Panasonic, called the "Cloud Black" P900iV model (pictured). The phone, which is already available for retail purchase in Japan, will be used by the main character, Cloud, during the Advent Children film. It comes with pre-installed animated avatars of Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. These avatars can be used when talking to other mobile phone users.
In an interview in The PlayStation 2 magazine in Japan, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children producer Yoshinori Kitase explained the reason behind launching the Final Fantasy VII Compilation project and what to expect from it in the future. "Final Fantasy VII was popular to begin with, and it still gets support from fans both inside and outside of Japan. As creators, we have a special fondness for the game, since it was our first Final Fantasy title on the PlayStation," commented Kitase in the interview.
"The worldview of FFVII is unique when compared to the rest of the Final Fantasy series, and there's a lot that can't be explained about the characters by just Final Fantasy VII alone," continued Kitase. "We created the Final Fantasy VII Compilation project as a way to expand on Final Fantasy VII and its worldview. Tetsuya Nomura and I have a lot of ideas, but they're very rough. We don't know if any of the ideas will be turned into products, but we hope to be outgoing in doing so. We have to be prudent about making a game sequel to Final Fantasy VII, but we hope to take various approaches."
So I hope if any of this info was good to know, I would like to see a sequel game to FF7 and spin-off game with Vincent. What about you guys?

Awesome. The only thing I don't want to see is them ruin FFVII and what's it all about by selling out.

Ever hear the rumor they could be remaking/expanding on FFVII, VIII, and IX for the PS3?

They were planning on doing that with the PS2, but Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within drained their coffers, and they had to cancel the project. I hadn't heard they were planning a PS3 port.

I feel so very torn. I boycotted X-2 because I was anti-sequel for FF games(well that wasn't the only reason). And now this. A "prequel" for FFVII, the game I've comed to loathe more and more over time. -_-;
Isn't Square ever just going to make another FF and get over with it already. >_<;
First a pay to play MMORPG, then pretty princess dress me up X-2, now the game that cursed the series into mediocrity and it's downwards slope gets a prequel.
Oh how my heart weeps. :frown:
FF7 deserves a bit more respect than that. Even if you don't like the game, you have to realize its impact on modern RPG's. It was a huge influence.

Wow, did Final Fantasy X-2 suck. That sucked hard. My roommate played it non stop and I was almost to the point of smashing my own tv so I wouldn't have to listen to that crap anymore.
But Final Fantasy 7 ain't bad. :)

The game itself was fine, the impact that it had on the gaming industry is what my problem is. I have no quarrels with a game being good. But if it degrades the quality of future games as well as setting the standards for how games are designed. That is what I have the problem with.
The only credit I give to Final Fantasy 7 is that it was the first game that had an openly homosexual main character. That's the one area I give respect and credit to Squaresoft.
which character was that?

Cloud Strife. I mean in the America Version it is toned down very much. But if you look you can find a list of signs. If you'd like I can type them up for you later on.
Something that has to be understood. There is a lot of sexually related topics in many Final Fantasy games that are cut out due to American "censorship".

Yeah... Type them out, because I'm having a hard time believeing you.

As you wish.
The first area I will work with is the cross dressing scenerio... YES I fully understand that cross dressing does not always link up to homosexuality but I felt it pertinent to add as much information in and slowly build my way upward.
There is a scene in FF7 where Cloud has the option to dress up as a female. Squaresoft is famous for designing andogynous characters so it is not out of the question that Cloud Strife could look pretty in the proper attire and setup.
If you complete the sub missions to get Cloud all of the best gear (make up, dress, wig, panties, etc) you are privvy to a scene with the boss man you were trying to meet. When you interacte with him there are a series of questions that can be answered yes. I apologize profusely for not having all of those questions in detail(I will ask a friend of mine to get them for me later when he's awake) but they are along the lines of "Would you like to touch it" "Can you blow on it." And I believe one of the main ones is will you kiss him. The only thing that STOPS Cloud from going further is the fact Tifa and Aeris bust in. I believe they both confront him about it and he is quite embarassed.
Also when it comes time to dealing with the Don's testicles both women have a method for doing something to them (Cut/Stab) that does not involve any touching. Cloud on the other hand opts to use the "CRUSH" option which leads him into a hands on experience.
But I can understand this as not being enough. Perhaps he was just curious, maybe experimenting. I mean two women hounding him and having hazy memory could cause a few issues on a guy.
The next thing I'll go to is the scene on the Ferris Wheel. Where you take someone on a date. Depending the behavior patterns. Square had set the game to allow you to more openly explore Cloud's gender preference. Case in point, on the Ferris Wheel, Barret can be taken along. After a few conversations on their date, Cloud leans over and kisses Barret. But, fine, alright... Kissing another man doesn't have to make a person gay you might argue.
Let us move onto the the scene where Cloud gets a "massage" at the Turkish Bath House. Cloud has one of two choices in the scene where he gets a massage. Well three then two. He can peak on what the other men are doing in the bath's before entering the room/bath.
Once Cloud gets into one of the bath's. The voice says things like "Alright. Relax." "Take it easy." "We're doing this slowly." "It'll be okay." I'm not sure if these are the direct quotes. Again they are quite similar to the actual ones and the toning is still there. Depending which door you chose, one of the following will occur.
Door 1. After some noises, Cloud opens his eyes and a big burly guy in a towel is their asking him if he enjoyed it.
Door 2. After some noises, Cloud opens his eyes and a large name of big burly guys in towels are there.
When confronted by it. Cloud merely gets "embarassed".
Alright alluded to penetration or gang banging doesn't work for you there are other things to look over.
The relationship between Cloud and Sephiroth and the real reason he killed Aeris. In the Japanese version you have much more freedom, even up to the point of saving the girl. But the American's unwittingly wanted to keep Cloud into the path I've been illuminating for you. Aeris' death was a classic case of jealous boyfriend sydrome. (I'll provide more when I have more information)
Some other interesting notes is the large sword. Some could argue it is a phallic issue but it couldn't also be viewed as something relating machismo. Many men who are in the closet, cover it up by behaving overly masculine. Using a large weapon to dish out pain upon foes could be Cloud's way of addressing his insecurity with his sexual preference.
Most of this was compiled by a group of friends and myself. That is why I have much of the information missing. Another aspect we studied was how when this is brought up to heterosexuals(usually in their teens) it is vehemently denied due to their insecurities with their own sexuality. We're not saying these "kids" are gay, we're just saying that after relating/bonding to a video game character so deeply they cannot concieve such a "flaw".
Anyhow. I'll post more information when I have it. And add on to what I could not remember efficiently. If you don't believe me, play the game for yourself over again and carefully watch the scenes mentioned and others.
As I said. Square is infamous for putting undertones and double meanings into their games but of all the Final Fantasy series that I have played. 7 was the first time where a character so openly admitted their sexuality.

...I never thought of it that way. I always thought that Cloud did those acts to save Tifa or just getting some info. Unless the person controling Cloud just wanted to see how far they could make him go, I just never read into it that much.

Again it could be a matter of perception. One man see's a monster on trial for killing children and another see's a man that needs help.

I think it's just how you percieve it, but it looks like you over anaylized alot of thing's. But then again, I didn't play the Japanese version so I can't really say. Most of Cloud's backstory, the early parts of it, is about him being shy around Tifa because he liked her, though.

Everything that I pointed out above was completely from the American version. Had a better japanese translator, I'm sure more justice would be done for this argument.
Also. I don't quite recall but wasn't most of Cloud's past "faked". Meh. I'll look it over again one day. Either way, the concept of a man chasing a woman but really wants men is not exactly foreign concept. There are plenty of men who've been married with kids for years only to end it with a divorce to go after another man.
The sad thing is most of the finer details for my evidence have been left out because, as I mentioned most of the research was done in groups.

I'm not convinced...
Sorry, but I cant really see much of an argument there. Maybe there's more from the Japanese version though...

I agree. It's nit-picking if anything.
And about Cloud's past: yes, you'e right, it wasn't real. He wasn't a Solider First-Class, and Tifa wasn't his childhood sweetheart. That was Zack's past, after Hojo fished Zack and Cloud out of the lifestream and did experiments on them ( the reason why Cloud has Mako-coated eyes even though he was never endowned with Mako through Solider ), they escaped and Zack told Cloud all about his past. Because Cloud's sanity was on the brink because of Hojo's experiments, his past and Zack's past became one inside Cloud's head. So basicly, he thought he was Zack. Zack died, and then Cloud came to Midgar in search of Tifa. Tifa never speaks up about Cloud's real past, and let's him believe that some of his memories were really his because she's afraid he won't be able to handle the truth. In truth, Cloud was shy and reclusive. He had a crush on Tifa but never spoke up about it. In the Nibelhem flash-back, the real Cloud is one of the two guys in blue suits. Cloud never made it past a low-level rank when he joined Solider.

It's alright. No need to apologize. As I said it's very understandable why many people could find it offensive. I know a good number of people who've gotten violently upset when this was discussed or brought up. People don't like characters they empathize with to be something they're not.

Okay but just for the record I don't find it at all offensive that someone would think Cloud is gay, I just don't think he is myself :)
Wow that's really interesting. It's funny what these Japanese think up especially with the Manga. Oh well they don't call it Final Fantasy for nothing :D.
