What are some awesome old games you love from the NES and SNES days, or even systems beforehand like Atari, or Sega's consoles? A few that floated my boat and come to mind from Nintendo:

Stryder
Jackal
Smash TV

Loved all the Super Mario Bros. games, of course they're classics and really made Nintendo. All the Ninja Gaidens were really awesome, too! I can't believe so many people forget about them. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I was so hooked on the ones for NES, and I recall how much #4 blew my mind when it first came for SNES. Contra III, so awesome, as were all the titles, and Donkey Kong, Battletoads, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, they were all great. I forgot all about Punch Out, that was a favorite of my friends' and I back in my WWF-liking days. The very first Zelda for NES was a true classic, as were the ones for SNES, and who can forget the Metroid titles? Some argue that Super Metroid was the greatest game ever.

Triggering a lot. Keep it goin' guys. :D

The old 2D Sonic games on the MegaDrive were the best.
Street Fighter 2 and all the other Street Fighter 2 games since.
Streets of Rage 1 & 2 but 2 was the better one.

And Pac Man was great too and he is truly retro.

Who doesn't love the Man? Sonic games were great, my younger cousin got this big collection for the GameCube and it was great to play 'em all again. Street Fighter is an old favorite of mine, and damn, I had almost forgotten about Streets of Rage (for Sega-something, I think?). That reminds me of all the slang the kids in my neighborhood used to use when we'd be gaming...there wasn't "beating" a game. Oh no, it was "CONQUERING". And there weren't "bosses", but rather "THE END GUY".

I enjoyed Sonic games back in the day...but honestly, they haven't aged well :(
I try playing them now and I get bored fast.

I suspect there are a lot of games that fit this category.
For example, I used to LOVE Mortal Kombat. When I play it now, the controls seem stiff, and there is not much depth or variety in the fighters. It's still a fun game, but hasn't exactly aged like wine.
By contrast, Street Fighter 2 Turbo was another favorite of mine. And when I play it now, I enjoy it just as much.
May not be as bloody, but it's the better game.
