How did this film do at the box office?
It was promoted very heavily prior to its release, and then you just didnt hear anything about it anymore. Honestly I dont even remember it coming out now.
Did it tank badly?

I don't know the exact number. But it seems to be performing like The Last Samurai. Decent domestic number, but big hit oversea. I'm sure it grosses over $450 millions WW by now like TLS.

I know it hit the $100 mill mark. As said before, it's domestic gross is pretty disappointing but it performed very well over seas.

I might consider renting it, but it just didn't look that good to me. It seemed like a movie that was destined for smaller-scale, and would have been great, but then Warner Brothers wanted another huge-scale LOTR movie, and then the star-studded cast signed on, and the movie was just inflated past its breaking point.

I thought Troy was very good as opposed to those who went in expecting an adaptation of the Iliad.

Although I enjoyed the film, I don't think I'll be buying the DVD. It's the exact same feeling I has towards The Last Samurai. I thought the film was pretty good, but I expected it to be fantastic and therefore I was disappointed.

I enjoyed the film... it had its moments. i might pick it up. Eric Bana saved the movie IMO. If he wasn't in it I think this movie would have been a lot worse.
awwww shoot

From the second I heard about Troy, I knew it would be the most hyped-up, trend-following, Hollywood piece of **** ever.

this was not a great movie at all, not DVD worthy. it really disappointed me. A great story like the trojan war deserves better tahn to be stripped down and hollywoodized like this one was.

I'd say rent it first. Troy is a love it or hate it type film.

I find it helps if the person doesn't expect an adaptation of the Iliad when they see it. Think more along the lines of these are supposed to be the actual events that inspired the story (hence no gods, etc).
