I have been writing a re-make for some time only to discover that Walt Disney Pictures have "optioned" the movie rights. What I need to know is.......1. Can movie rights be acquired by more than one person or group? 2. Would it be easier to pitch my script to those who have the rights already? 3. Should I pitch my script to another movie studio or production company?

Well, unfortunately, I'd say that there's little chance your remake will get made. You'd have to get an audience with Disney, and if they've optioned this movie, they likely have someone already working on it.

What I would do is try to rework the movie you have into a new project, by changing the characters and trying to reimagine the events and plots, and hopefully your script will develop into something different that you can pitch to someone.

Many books are optioned for years and years before anything is done (if ever). Unfortunately the chance of getting the people in charge to look at your work is pretty slim. But hey, there's no harm in trying to get them to read it!

You might learn something about the approval process for scripts along the way, which could help with your next script.
