It is a shame that Gabriel Yared's score for troy was regected, if nobody knows
Wolfgang Petersen rejected Gabriel Yared's score for Troy for being too "old-fashioned".
well, james horner's score for troy was alright, but mostly is was a dissapointment! click the link to hear what troys score was suppose to sound like!!!

yeah i listened to it, and i have to say its better then the one we have now, but it still is overpowering and unfit in a way.
I wanted the troy trailer music as the back drop music. what a bust this is... Troy hurted IMO because of the score

You need to go into "News" and then "The score for Troy".
Anyway, I think this whole praising of Yared's score as being a million times better than what Horner did is a bunch of crap. Yes Yared's score is good but in the end Peterson had a vision for the type of score he wanted for his film and this was not it. From listening to the tracks his arguments about it being too bombastic and overpowering are true to an extent. If you thought that female soloist who shows up in many of the Horner tracks was annoying, well she has nothing on the woman in Yared's end credits song. Let's be fair here and realize that Horner only had like 2 weeks to come up with what he did and I think he ended up pulling out some decent themes and a satisfying score. Yeah it could have been better and I'm sure Peterson is probably not entirely satisfied with it, but that's what he gets for making a last minute decision like that and painting himself into a corner.
And the Horner bashers need to go listen to the Braveheart soundtrack, the Legends of the Fall soundtrack and the Titanic soundtrack and recognize their brilliance. I think with the proper time he could easily have come up with a score to match these.

Actually Peterson didnt make the decision to reject the score, it was actually the WB execs who made it. They changed the score because of what a few people said in a test screening. Im not bashing Horner, because its not really his fault, he only had a month to come up with the score, but Yareds score, imo, is far better than Horner's.

To add on to that,Petersen actually loved Gabriel's score.Read the letter on Gabriel's page.WB made the decision, not Petersen.

Yup, its depressing on why they changed it. Troy would have been a much better film if it had Yareds score.

We are not bashing Horner. At least Im not.In fact,i love the soundtracks of all the movies you mentioned above. The theme for Legend of the Falls is simply superb. But,he just didnt do a good job on Troy.Though understandable.

Thanks for setting me straight on that. It is too bad that Peterson had no say in the matter, as he probably thinks less of his film because of the rushed score it now has. I still think it's a satisfying score though and even if the Yared score was put back in I don't think the film would be leagues better like some say. I do like the idea that people have been kicking around about featuring the Yared score as an alternate audio track for the DVD, though I doubt that will happen.

For the best few years, horners scores have been going down hill, I mean Horner has done some trully amazing work! But lately he has been repeating himself, which he has done here on troy!
A few themes from troy sounded alot like his and peter's other movie they did together, the perfect storm!

wow this score is great. I think it wouldve made the film a bit more authentic. Still a great movie though.
The greeks Approaching Troy track is great.
The score in the film was too Gladiator like with the women moans and stuff....eh...
It's a shame that the score got cut, I really enjoyed Troy but one thing that did bother me was some of the music... Eg. The lady singing all the time, got a bit old.. and a few other parts... Lets hope this score makes it to the DVD or maybe a special directors cut or something... WB if they thought smart could make us all double dip, first with the original version. Then release an extended with the Yared Score... I would buy that... heh..
