I guess this has become something of a cult film, but I think it's fantastic, one of my favorites, overall a very under-rated film. Who else has seen this? I think Ethan Hawke, Uma, and Jude Law all do great jobs. The setpieces are so sterile and oppressive, and the music is perfect. I know that the genetically engineered future world is an old idea, but I think Gattaca puts it on the screen better than any other film has managed to do. Agree, disagree?

I highly agree. It is very underrated. I saw this movie a month ago, and i saw it for the first time and i realy realy liked it. the music is great. dialogue is very good. I loved the cast. Jude, Ethan, Uma, and of course Xander Berkley.

I loved this movie. I think it did a very good job of capturing the time they were in. And of course, the ideas were great, if not original. The acting was quite good and the movie entertaining. It's one of my favorites.

Very entertaining movie. If you are interested in these sort of issues I Suggest you read "Brave New World", which the movie was inspired by (but not based on).

I saw the movie when it first came out.
Though it was a little too over-the-top for my tastes when dealing with this kind of subject matter (my same complaint about "MINORITY REPORT" and "PAYCHECK" -- which is why I have neither of these three otherwise excellent titles in my personal DVD collection), the story is horrifically unnerving and terrifyingly thought-provoking... because don't think for one minute that such a scenario as represented in "GATTACA" (and in numerous other "Science Is God" films and stories) is not only plausible, but also very LIKELY.
Yes, I know I'm sounding like a crazed conspiracy theorist walking around wearing a tin foil cap, but my problem is that I know 'human nature' all too well, which is why every new advance in science simultaneously amazes me and worries the bloody [[bleep]] out of me!
Sometimes... SOME-times "movies" try to tell us a hard truth ''disguised as entertainment" ("BULWORTH"; "WAG THE DOG"; "V")... if only we are perceptive enough to listen.

I saw it in biology too and loved it. I'm gonna get it.
Is there anything on the DVD? The back lists "Special Features" as a bullet point. What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I got it on Superbit DVD a few months ago. Great, very well done under appreciated flick. I always got it confused with Contact, which isn't nearly as entertaining.

Contact is a great film (though it is probably one of those films you enjoy more the second time round when u know what to expect and what not to expect).
