Use lots of visuals. Give the origin of how Tolkien created Middle Earth. Give a timeline, and what Middle Earth culture looked like. Add humor.

You could describe the different countries and the types of people I spose. Make sure you make it clear that ME is a continent, not literally the "middle of earth."

Did alot of stuff WAAAY back in high school...the different races can be interesting...all depends on how much time you have...did a report on the ring and its effect on various characters, contrasted with Sam's reaction in ROTK...took 45 minutes...I was geeky when geeky wasnt cool...

Cover the historical progression of the cultures: is misconception some media-types made when FOTR came out is that the countries of Middle-earth are more or less interchangeable....HARDLY. The countries each have their own distinct identity and backrounds. (This isn't Dungeons and Dragons where people just make up stuff).
Further, talk about the influence on Tolkien of the old Icelandic Sagas and Beowulf.
Then the parts that are "Borrowed" from Shakespeare:
Theoden is a King Lear-type king.
"Bernam Wood is come to Dunsinane Caste" became the Ents and Isengard.
"Never by the hand of MAN will the Lord of the Nazgul fall" and a woman kills him is like the MacDuff-Macbeth prophesy. Etc.
