The few. The proud. The totally insane. Lions Gate/Artisan Home Entertainment has announced a new Air America: Special Edition due for release on July 20th. The 1990 Mel Gibson/Robert Downey Jr. comedy, based on the true-life covert CIA secret airline operation over Laos, arrives with a new 2.35 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio remix. Extras will include an audio commentary with director Roger Spottiswoode, "Return Flight: Revisiting Air America" all-new documentary (with cast & crew interviews, as well as historians and actual Air America pilots), "Air America: Flight Lag" featurette (with vintage on-set interviews and B-roll footage), a "Pre-Flight: Storyboards and Previsualizations" feature and theatrical trailers. Also due on July 20th is a new two-disc Highlander 2: Special Edition. Billed with "enhanced and re-imagined visual effects," the film will come with a newly remastered anamorphic transfer (from a new HD transfer) of the extended "Renegade Version" and a Dolby Digital 5.1-EX audio track. Extras include the new "Highlander 2: Seduced By Argentina" series of documentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes ("The Redemption Of Highlander 2," "The Fabric Of Highlander 2 " and "Shadow & Darkness: The Cinematography Of Highlander 2"), additional behind-the-scenes clips branched during the feature, original Cannes promo reel and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $19.98 apiece.

I never saw the Renegade version of Highlander 2. Was it any good?

I didn't know Air America developed a die hard cult following (a la, the Shawshank Redemption), to justify such a special release. Did I miss something? :)

If fans get that one, I want an SE of that movie where Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen play garbage truck guys.

The Renegade version basically removes all information about the immortals being aliens, other than that it is pretty much the same.

Hmm. Interesting. An edited down version of a movie that people prefer over the non-edited one.
