Kinjo: I don't hate ROTJ at all. I just like TESB, AOTC, TPM and ANH more. To me, all of the SW films are really good. However, I feel that ROTJ has the weakest story. For me, the Han rescue and the time on Endor drags the film down. Sure, that stuff is interesting, but not extremely so.

This is very hard but i'll give it my best:

1) ESB
2) AOTC (LOVED THIS MOVIE. The ONLY FILM EVER (besides ROTK) that has lived up to MY INCREDIBLE HIGH EXPECTATIONS when i saw it for the first time in theaters. I left the theater truely pleased and LOVED this film. The LAST HOUR with all the fighting was GREAT, and just the BRIEF GLIMPSES of WHATS TO COME (the empire music and the ending shot of the ships leaving for war) were AWSOME. HAYDEN i thought did very well throughout the FILM - though a few parts i didn't like his acting, but for the most part i thought he did very good for ANAKIN. The YODA fight was very impressive too. I only wish we would have seen ANAKAN fight more and kick more ass in this film...GREAT FILM THOUGH, LOVED IT ALL (except a few brief parts)
3) ROTJ (would be NUMBER 1 because i loved the conflict shown by VADER but the EWOKS and dance number hurt this film.)
4) TPM (is almost as good as ROTJ, maybe is just as good IMO. LOVED the MAUL DUEL and POD RACE. Liked JAR JAR - yes its true - The only downside was Jake Lyood, who was good in the beginning of the film but got worse. He was OK but could have been better (though it must be hard for a kid to take on this role) The story was slow but interest and different - which i liked. The buildup to the MAUL fight was very good and the fight even better. OVERALL I LOVED THIS FILM, probable like it more then most others)
5) ANH (yes this is my least favorite. Because the acting in this one to me was the worse of the OT. The fight scenes weren't up to par. STILL A CLASSIC AND ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVS)

1. ESB (obviously)
2. ANH (classic, will always hold a special place in my heart.)
3. ROTJ (great ending to the OT. dont like the 1997 SE version though-new jabba song. i never thought the ewoks hurt this movie because i first saw this movie when i was like 5 or something.)
4. AOTC (more like the original than TPM, but has a few down sides which people have talked about a million times!)
5. TPM (was good, but didnt have that SW magic like the OT.)

i predict ep.3 will go to 4th spot, from what we have seen from the PT i dont think it will be better than any from the OT.

Well, it's my favourite. I am pretty amazed though at how more people seem to rate ROTJ and TPM above it! :eek:

IMO ESB has always been slightly over-rated as 'by far the best' of the SW films (though not over-rated as a film) -

Well, you can say A New Hope started it, but then again, you can also say TPM started it, for the newer generation. I have cousins who were young and never saw SW until TPM (so it started it for them), and now they love every film...

Definitely the Original Trilogy comes in before the prequels, but I still can't decide on a specific order, and I can't decide if Phantom Menace was better or worse than Clones. As bad as Phantom was, at least it somehow "felt" like a SW film, whereas Clones didn't. Also, the boring parts of Clones were excruciatingly boring (moreso than Phantom), but the good parts of Clones were better than the good parts of Phantom.

So in other words, this is a non-answer. Sorry.

New Hope - Great adventurer film. Despite being technically inferior i put it above Empire as it is more of a film in its own right, whereas Empire was designed to make the audience want to come back for more.

Empire Strikes Back - looks fantastic. Great darker edge.

Return of the Jedi - Loved the new giant walking machines. Don't understand the hatred towards the Ewoks. They're cute and cuddly! (PS when did Luke get so ugly?)

Attack of the Clones - Some good ideas, and a some what exciting final battle scene, but the bad acting, poor dialogue and in the end poor script drag it down. Gotten worse on subseqent viewings.

Phantom Menance - Tried hard to like this. Tried to focus on the good points, but they're just so drowned out by the awful characters and the plot inconsistencies. Not to mention the incidental music which at times makes it impossible to hear some of the characters and prevents the creation of any suspense.

When i was younger (and liked the series) i loved Empire strikes back.

You know, as much as I love ESB, there's something missing from it. The dark tone is great, and certainly preferable to the bright, cheery tone of Phantom Menace, but there are no moments in ESB that make you want to cheer.

In ANH, there's that moment when Luke fires the torpedo and you wait at the edge of your seat to see if it will go into the Death Star, and when it does, it's a great feeling.

In ROTJ, there are some cool moments when the sail barge explodes and when the second Death Star gets blown up.

There's a certain adrenaline rush I get from scenes like that... when the situation looks bleak and suddenly it all works out. Now, I know ESB is supposed to show things at their worst, but something seems lacking when you don't have any moments in which to cheer the heroes on. I guess you could say such a moment exists when Luke blows up the AT-AT, but it's not the same.

ROTJ - It was the first I saw and it has the best space battle and lightsaber duel. Always has been my favourite for some reason.

ANH - Just plain great throughout

ESB - Almost as good as ANH, just seems to slow down in the middle and lacks a good space battle

AOTC - Bad movie saved by a few good battle scenes and a great ending. Should have had real clones and less CGI

TPM - Poor.. podrace and lightsaber battle were good.. that's about it.

ESB - this movie made me a star wars fan. all in it is brilliant.
AOTC - i LOVED this movie. i was anticipating this one a lot, and i saw it three times at theatre. williams love theme was great. some cheesy scenes but all in all great imo. hayden did a good job and i got chills a few times. especially when he left to search for his mother, that is one of my fav moments in the movie.
ANH - its just a great classic..
ROTJ - phantastic ending!
TPM - movie is ok, jar jar was a mistake. darth maul ruled. obi wan too.

its hard to pick on of the original 3. of course i picked a new hope. i just have to say that i dont find the new ones very appealing at all. it looks so cheesy with all the cgi. the people are the only real things. episode 3 prolly wont even have real people

The biggest problem I had with AOTC was not the lame acting or cheesy dialogue. It was the editing. Just when something cool was about to happen, they'd cut away to something else for 2 minutes, then cut back....and forth....and back....and forth every 2 mintues. Then one minute you have Anakin weeping at his mother's funeral and literally TWO OR THREE MINUTES LATER (of actual, in movie time, not just elapesed screen time) you have Anakin smiling with glee at the prospect of rescuing Obi-Wan and happy music is playing. Wow, kid. Sure forgot about your mom getting whacked pretty quickly, didn't you?
