Who cares about the awards. Its what goes on at the awards ceremony that is interesting.

It's just a popularity contest. When have you ever seen a non-blockbuster (but critically acclaimed) film in there. Really the MTV awards are nothing but an ad for MTV. I mean really, best action scene? best dance scene? what is this rubbish?

Have you actually ever watched the show? It's not even interesting. It's cheesy as hell.

Except for Ludacris and Omarion, and the fact that Vol. 1 got snubbed for Picture over 50 First Dates, doesn't look particularly bad.

And many times the sketches are funny, such as the Lord of the Rings stuff the past two years, and the Matrix parody last year (although admittedly the best part of that was the last).

Oh, and Escape from Mongolia should be annihilated for Crazy 88 and Matrix highway or the Agent Smith Fight from Reloaded.

i watch these awards and enjoyed them. the parodies were funny. I remember the hilarious Lord of the Rings one about a year ago. these award shows are entertaining.

nominations were probably based on opinions from teenagers, last 2 years i remember lord of the rings getting nominated a lot and won in almost all categories, but this year it is diffrent, got 2 nominations.

Agreed. That thing was a classic. I suppose as long as no-one accepting the awards takes it too seriously (like endlessly thanking their agent, mom and god), then it's ok.

the people that nominate are so out of it. And how much do you want to bet the Theron wont get best actress because she was OVERQUALIFIED for the award. Barrymore is gonna get it because she is the worst actress there.

Its pretty sad.

No one takes this seriously. This show is meant to be something funny and entertaining to watch. Have big name stars like Tom Cruise make fun of themselves and have Jim Carrey come on as a hippie and accept his award. This show is meant to entertain. Plain and Simple. No one cares who wins.

And to promote summer movies. The presenters all have something coming out.

That's very true. Tobey and Kirsten will probably be there to promote Spider-Man 2. Will Smith with promote I, Robot.

You have X2 and Matrix: Revolutions in there but also the Passion?

Why is everyone so concerned? Nobody cares about that. This show is meant to entertain. Plain and simple. This isn't the VMA's where people actually take the awards seriously because its probably the only award show to award music videos. However, the Movie Awards is just meant to be funny.

I enjoy the MTV movie awards.. they are just an amusing time. We have plenty of more serious award shows to watch. I enjoy the little skits and their paradoys of movies..

If you take their awards serious, then i cant help you.

I agree that some of the awards are completely stupid and some of the nominees but yes, this is a popularity contest, thats why the viewers vote, its just like any award show in which the public votes. This isn't IFC, its MTV, I hope no one really expected anything classy, although I am behind LOTR all the way lol.

The MTV awards are a parody of film as an art medium. The term "Awards" gives the impression that this is dignified. they should call it the MTV Movie Contest. The name is cheaper and more fitting for the silly tone.

But this same crap happens to the grammys as well. No one cares about the grammy's because thats one big popularity contest. If you win that award that means jack. Anyone remember Arrested Development? the Oscars are joke as well, but at least winning Best Picture practically insures that the film is at least pretty good and won't be a regrettable waste of time.

Probably in June. I love the show, i think its hilarious but its also a sad excuse for a real awards show I mean, they don't even keep all the same categories. They are missing best virtual performance this year.

I love the movie parodies they do on the MTV movie awards. Most of it is really stupid, but then there are hilarious moments like Gollum swearing or Will Ferrell as "the Architect"...that whole speech was genius.

whoa whoa wait a second. Don't demonize me personally just because you disagree. One post is not "everything."

Speaking as someone who admires film, I think its pretty accurate to say that the award shows are entirely too politicized to be taken seriously. They end up being popularity contests which overshadow the works of filmmamkers that do deserve to be spotlighted.

Heard Drew got it on with Carson behind the scenes, he then lobbied hard for it to get nominated. :p

In abbreviation MTV "M" doesn't mean "Movie". To add, these MTV guys can't understand nothing about music. So, how they can tell a good movie from a bad one? Please!

I can't even say that this is a typical pop-corn award (such as VH1). It is just (here was a very strong slang word).
