GOSH IT WAS AMAZING!!!!
I'M JUST COME BACK IN ITALY!! the concert was great, really!! I was in line 21, really close!!!! I did a lot of photos, I'll link them here tomorrow. These are my friend's photos:
http://community.webshots.com/user/emilgollum
I didn't met Shore (as I was supposed to do >__<) just because he was in late, and we too: the concert become at 8,30 pm and we were there at 8pm ç__ç
But we had a surprise: we had a chat with ROY TOLKIEN, our own oxonian's nephew, who appeared in Return of the King too! I had an autograph, and did a little interview! There was the president of the Belgium Tolkien Society too.. Roy is a delightful person, i's very young and cheerful, last night was one of the best night of my life!!
The concert was sublime, really. I adored the 'white voice' soloist, and Sissel (che female soloist). The flanders orchestra was really great, and that wnormous choir too.
Many sketches projected on the screens were by Alan Lee, but I was pleased to see that the only color-paintings where John howe's works!! Like Barad dur with a nazgul and mt Doom, or Gandalf at bag End...
Howard was really fantastic. there were many emotional moment, but the best one was..the end: really an OVATION of almost 10 minutes, with howard going out and coming back 3 times! Really an explosion of joy from 10,000 people in love with his music.
tomorrow the photos ^___- here in italy is 1 am =.= and I'm just come back after a LOOONG trip >__<

obviusly during the concert he was turned back, he looked at the orchestra. however, I just said I recordered some parts with the videocamera, and I'll take some screenshots: he was quite close!
If you look at the gallery, however, there are many photos of the orchestra, and you can clearly see him. Theonering;net has many other photos;
He didn't performed any song, Sissel sang Gollum's Song and into the west, as well as other songs of the soundtrack (but not may it be). :)

And again: A norwegian artist picked up by Shore because of her beautiful voice. He heard her, and decided he wanted her to sing on the concert.
Also she is singing on the ROTK EE DVD. Not sure what scene in the movie she will be singing on though. Posted this in the EE thread long time ago ;)

I was in Hartford yesterday for the LOTR Symphony. It was beautiful :D
As someone who knows pretty much every nuance of the scores (listened to them a little too much I think :) ) I think the musicians did a wonderful job of capturing the feeling and emotion of the music. The symphony was supported by a large chorus, and children's chorus, guest female sopranos, a young boy soprano, and a gorgeous Norwegian Hardanger fiddle.
The first half of the performance was comprised of the two movements from FOTR. The first movement had music from the prologue through to a Knife in the Dark. The second movement consisted of Many Meetings through the Breaking of the Fellowship and In Dreams. The boy who sang In Dreams looked so nervous - he was cute :) He did a good job too (he also sang the solo from Gandalf's fall, and was about half a key off for the whole thing, a little difficult to listen to). These pieces were pretty much in their original form, not too much was cut or rearranged.
The second half had TTT and ROTK. The third movement had the Foundations of Stone, the Taming of Smeagol, The Riders of Rohan, the Black Gate is Closed, Evenstar, Treebeard, the White Rider and the Forbidden Pool. These were all pared down quite a bit. The fourth movement was from The Hornburg through Isengard Unleashed and Gollum's Song. The real standout performance here was during Forth Eorlingas when the Rohirrim are charging down the hill - the female soprano had such a gorgeous voice. I need to find my program so I can give her credit here, she deserves it.
The fifth movement consisted of Hope and Memory, Minas Tirith, The White Tree, The Steward of Gondor (minus the Edge of Night), Cirith Ungol and Anduril. These were all shortened as well. The lighting of the beacons portion of The White Tree was gorgeous, it was a rush to hear it live. The sixth movement had from The End of All Things (again, with a beautiful solo) to The Grey Havens and Into the West. It wasn't listed in the program, but a part of the Ride of the Rohirrim started off the movement.
All in all, it was quite an experience. There was a looong standing ovation filled with cheering, and the hall was packed. Did I mention that I was in the from row? :) If only it had been Howard Shore conducting...But, the conductor, Allistair Willis, had such energy, you could tell he really loved the music and wanted it perfect. My only complaint was the use of a rat-a-tatting snare drum through many of the pieces that really didn't belong there and took away from some of the emotion. But that was a small thing compared to the overall concert. Needless to say, I had to go home and pop in some select scenes from the movies to complete my LOTR fix for the day :)

Actually howardshore.com doesn’t have a listing of concert dates anymore, it just says to check with your local symphony. It says Howard won’t be able to make many more of the concert dates anyway - try writing or calling your symphony Psyk, and see what they have to say. It might be easier for them to set up a date if it’s not contingent on having Howard there.
