Do you think that they should stop with all of the sequels and just start trying to come up with original ideas?

There are some movies that need sequels, but I agree that Hollywood is going a bit too far with the sequels.

If I see a sequel that I dont like the looks of...I dont watch it simple as that.

I think the company that is going sequel crazy is Disney. They seriously have to stop!!!

wtf? they hardly have any, and if it is, it's d2v.

Yes but they are still sequels.

Cinderella
Jungle Book
The Little Mermaid
Peter Pan
Beauty And The Beast
Lion King
Aladdin

There are probably loads more but these are the ones off the top of my head that have had sequels, most of them DTV and within the last few years.

People should just apply this to everything, i mean its perfect to think like that, yet on the remake thread I see you going, "oh my god terrible!" ;) I feel this way about all movies, if a normal movie, a sequel, or a remake don't look good, I don't see them, let hollywood do what they want, just because we don't want to see a movie sequel doesn't mean millions of others don't. The movie industry is meant for entertainment of the masses, not entertainment of the few who think they have an infalible taste in movies.

There is a difference.

The films that I love would be remade, meaning that similarites would be drawn with the great original films...So I would probably check them out to see how they stand up against the true classics.

A sequel is different, especially a quickly pushed out DTV one, I couldnt care less about the characters if the studio themselves dont even care about them.

And all I said was "None of those should ever be remade...."..;)

^ Sorry I kinda got overwhelmed, everyone was flipping out on that thread. But like I said people need to stop flipping over sequels and remakes, if you don't like them fine but others might.
And its ok to state that you don't, but you dont' need to bite everyone's head off if they disagree (this is not aimed at you at all Spidy)

STOP, you are ruining good movies

I think it would be better that they make the sequel before the first comes out because they could think of a way to make it flow a lot better. If they wait a few years that is when it gets weird.

They hardly have any? No, they almost have sequels to all their movie. Even if its straight to video, its still a sequel, its just so bad it doesnt make it to the theatre ;)

Its sad when someone sells the rights to a good movie away to some studio and they milk it dry - like with aliens and terminator.

Sequels started going too far about five years ago.

Sequels are just a part of the industry. The initial trigger was, in my opinion, in the 1930s with Frankenstein.

In 1931, 'Frankenstein' had been made, with the monster burning to death at the end. But, SURPRISE, a few years later in 1935, in the 'Bride of Frankenstein' we find out that the monster lived after all! Then in 1939, here is the shocker, we find out that yes indeed, here comes: 'The Son of Frankenstein'! Then again, just when we thought things were safe, a few years later, onto the screen comes: 'The Ghost of Frankenstein'!

Well, now we think the studios are just in this for the money, because the very next year, what does the world get: 'Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man'.

Sequels are nothing new. Freddy V Jason is nothing new.

if a sequel looks good ill see it, but if it looks bad I wont.

I know that sequels are nothing new. But i dont think they should wait for 10 years to make some.

Sequels should also be written as the first movie comes out that way it doesnt ruin the effect.

There are very few sequels that did the original justice. What I hate about some sequels are that in order to come up with a new story they change parts of the original which takes away from the good film. A good example is T3. The whole point of the first two movies was there is no fate but what we make for ourselves, nothing is inevitable. Then t3 came out and they just said "Whoops, turns out it is inevitable!"

1 or 2 sequels don't hurt anyone, but they can go too far if they make like the Rocky movies :(

MysticalMagic

I think they should come up with more ideas for movies. Theirs movies such as LOTR, HP and The Matrix that have to have sequels. But some are just like...ugh! Like Legally Blonde 2!! OMG! That was the most dumdest movie i've ever seen. The first noe was just great, it was blonde and stuff. But the second was just horrible.

Very few movies NEED sequels. the only movie I can think of that NEEDED a sequel are star wars, LotR (and those are both trilogies), and Back to the Future.

Didnt need sequels then it would have made no sense at all, i agree that 3 sucked capared to the others. But without it, the series would have been worse.

I just get annoyed when they start making part 2 and 3 plans when the first movie hasn't even been released yet!

Isnt that what they did with both lord of the rings and matrix.

LOTR is an exception, since it is really one movie and they always had planned to make all at once. And matrix sequels only got the green light after the success of the first one. But look at spiderman and scooby-doo, these had sequels already in the works regardless of how the first did.

Do I think the sequels are going to far? No. But do I think the prequels of movies are going to far? Yes. Everytime someone makes a prequel of a good film or t.v. series it's always a terrible, boring, just plain bad film or t.v. series. Let's look at the track record of the prequels shall we. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy( as you can see, the whole series is kind of screwed up. We didn't get to see much of the Clone Wars on film, we didn't get to see this so called friendship with Obi Whine Kenobi and Anakin "Arrogant" Skywalker, the characterizations were messed up( especially Anakin's personality), the dialogue was horrible( especially in AotC), the acting wasn't great( come on you all know Hamill, Ford, and Fischer combined kills the acting of mostly everyone in these prequels), and basically everything else about this trilogy is messed up), Dumb and Dumberer( what more is there to say, except just plain bad), Star Trek Enterprise( terrible, boring, just not what Star Trek is all about. Terrible T.V. series). Now let's just all hope Batman Begins breaks this aweful curse of prequels.

Didnt george lucas write all the star wars a long time ago. I see nothing in them that doesnt fit. everything will come together in the third and he meant for annikan to be arrogant. I would think after millions of dollars, five movies, and taking 4 years between each one that he would know what he was doing.

Inferno

Let's not get hooked up on Lucas bashing here.

As for poor prequels. I agree. The only good one I can think is Red Dragon. But in a sense that doesn't count as it's based on a book written before Silence of the Lambs, so it wasn't ever meant to be a prequel.
