I know it's not the final summary of the movie, but usually it seems to give a good indication of the film. A lot of people were really leary of the change of director.
Have you changed your mind?

i'm sure i thought the director would do a fine job, i just wasn't familiar with his work. i also was a bit worried because of the length of the book, being broken down into 2 1/2 hours again...
after seeing these trailers, my only wish would be that he come back to finish off 6 & 7. i do not want to see it going back to the way it was if columbus comes back (like it was once rumored)
i like the emphasis on the characters, rather on what's going on around them.
I cannot wait for this to open!!!!!

That trailer is amazing and if you are also referring to his choice to have them wear muggle clothes, I never had a problem with that. I mean they did in the book. There are so many parts where someone says, "Put on your school robes." They didn't wear them 24/7. SO anyway, yes this movie will kick ass! "Foul, Loathsome, Evil little Cockroach!"

Always liked Cuaron from the start, I always wanted a director to put Harry Potter in a darker area. I know every actor in the films say "its cool and darker" when asked about his style but I think its a blessing for the films.
I remember somewhere I heard Cuaron had first look/refusal at the OoTP script, rather than start GoF while finishing PoA. So the films have a bright future.

Wait does that mean he wants to do OoTP? the look/refusal confused me. And I hope he does, this one looks a million times better than the first two just from the trailer, even though I loved the first two.

Sorry, I think he wants to do it, I just didn't know the correct way to describe the deal he has with WB.

I had to choose the eggs in China option, becuase I haven't seen the trailer yet. Since there wasn't an "I haven't seen the trailer" option, I had to choose something.

This movie looks like it will be so much better than the others now that I've seen the preview. It looks like it will feel less forced and rushed. I think Cuaron is focusing on the story more instead of copying the book and making a mediocre movie. Can't wait.

I didn't really have an opinion on him either way - it's more of a wait and see for me. I have to say though, the new trailer doesn't really impress me.

I agree. Columbus's vision never eally sat right with me. Cuaron looks like he'll do the film I imagined, rather than one to sell toothpaste and bath towels.

I really enjoy both Directors views. I do feel now though that curon has done an amazing job in turning the entire series into a new directiona nd i really like it. Initially i thought it would turn out bad, but as pics and news come in i think i am going to love this one more than the others............it looks amazing and i am sooo excited about it.

off topic: What's the deal with those muggle clothes anyway, they wear muggle clothes in the fist two movies, although a bit old-fashion ones.
on topic: the new look is great, but I wouldn't mind a new director for every movie, keeps it from getting boring.

I don't know a ton of people were freaking out becuase they looked to "normal" but they were muggle type clothes in the books because there are a lot of parts where they say "put on your school robes" now unless they are running around naked I think they are wearing normal clothing unless they had everyday robes hehe.

The only part I do not like.... is about poor Oliver Woods, It being his last year, and he is not even in the movie. The Quidditch was such an important part of this book. I hate that it was cut, when it truth, this was the best book for the sport...And Gryffindor was winner after what? 9 years or more? I cannot remember.
And it was the first book in which he meets Cho on the Quidditch field. She was a seeker also.
I know you cannot get everything...but I wish the movies were made more like the LOTR movies...and DID keep more to the books. Would be great if they would make the extended movies (like the LOTR)for the real Harry Potter freaks, who like their story more to the books...that would be fantastic. I would buy all the extended movies.

Yeah Woods does seem important they shouldn't have cut him.

03-28-2004, 10:06 AM
Yeah, that really is a shame. When they win the cup was one of the best parts in the books.
I wonder what they'll do with that then. Will they then get rid of the quidditch final or will they do something else?

I didn't know Woods was booted. I really like him in the films. He was easily the best of the younger actors in the films.
Necross
03-28-2004, 12:49 PM
Wood was booted? Where did you get this information? And if so I think that stinks as well but I kinda understand, I know the games are different but how many times can some people watch Harry catch the golden snitch. I could all the time but if he didn't cut Quidditch it could have been something much more important. Anyway it will be back in GOF. It has to be in that.

I don't really give a F*** who the director is...I'm a less complicated person that doesn't pay attention to directors and details but just go watches the damn movie

It was mentioned a very long time ago that Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood) wasn't going to be in this one, and it was confirmed a few places including www.seanbiggerstaff.com It was even rumored for a while that they cut Quidditch entirely. That's not happening because we know they at least have the match in the rainstorm with the dementors going after Harry. I get the feeling it will be the only match we see, though. It would be nice to see the other match where Draco and his lot pretend to be dementors to scare Harry and he shoots a Patronus charm at them.
So: Oliver Wood - out, Quidditch - in.

I believe the only reason people care about who is directing is because obviously different directors have very different visions. Cuaron is taking HP in a completely new direction that so far has received good reviews, and there may be a bit of concern that the next director may abandon that vision and go back to where it was or something. It would be pretty strange if we have this stand out piece in PoA and all the other movies are like the first 2. PoA wouldn't fit at all (which is already a concern of a lot of people, anyway).
I've read interviews with Mike Newell, the director for GoF, and he said he's going to keep with Cuaron's vision. I don't think we have much to worry about. As for me, I'll probably like the movies no matter what. I liked Columbus' vision, as well, though it was a bit dry for my taste.

I only mentioned it because I LOVED Oliver wood, and The POA book was his last year at School ...and he was SOoooo happy when they won, in his last year...I know they cant show every game, but no Oliver Wood is a little sad. I never understood why they cut him out. I hope that he might come back when the war starts, in the last book I would guess.
Anyway, it will be back in GOF. It has to be in that.
No, it will not..There were no games at all in GOF...Not one. It was canceled for the Triwizard Tournament. At least the ones in school were canceled....The only Quidditch... is the Quidditch World Cup. And that is just to watch .....Not to play

I just saw the trailer, and I was really impressed. I always thought in the first two movies that the acting by Harry and Hermione was kinda iffy, but in this film it looks way better. They must've got acting lessons or something.

I thought the teaser trailer was better actually, because of the Macbeth song probably. But the new trailer hasnt made it look any worse, just not any better.
Talking about directors and the feel they give the film...it was said somewhere that WB were getting a different director for each film so that each film has a different approach to it. I really like this idea. So personally, I hope that Newell doesn't simply try and copy Cuarons feel, or Columbus's, but give his own new one. Dunno if that makes sense or not!

OMG i just watched the full trailer and at one part, i guess when the dementors come, hermione gets scared so she grabs ron's hand. then they kind of look at each awkwardly and she lets go. but it's so cute- j.k. rowling probably approved of that since it wasn't in the book (and i doubt cuaron would show a spark of romance b/w ron and hermione is rowling was planning on making a romance b/w harry and hermione) so that probably means that rowling intends to have ron and hermione together!

Hey, I have deduced that when she grabs his hand is when Harry goes into see buckbeak, cause if you look at the class its similar to the Care of Magical Creatures, and you can see malfoy in the background and if you watch his reaction he stares at something then laughs and speaks to someone, amking me think he is laughing at harry as he enters the containment of buckbeak and hermione is worried about harry and grabs rons hand,
and also
The MPAA has given Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban a PG rating for "frightening moments, creature violence and mild language."

Someone should post a link of the trailer for poor, deprived, non-obsessive fans such as myself.
