Im interested if someone have seen it yet and what his opinion is.

I was blown away by first part not only by its incredible cruilty but also by ***asaki doing another great visual job.

It is being shipped to me now. From what I have heard it is no where near as good as the first. Do not expect the same type of movie. But on the basis of the first one this is a must see for me.

I will definatley see this at some point, I was dissapointed by the reviews, but heck the first was so good it was going to be pretty hard for the sequel to be on the same level.

i didnt like the first, it was too cruel and needlessly violent. the only thing i like is that social commentary behind it.

"too cruel and neelessly violent"

What were the kids supposed to do.... drinking tea while having a intense session of witty banter?

Some parts were really shocking, but mostly because of the situation and the relationship they had between them (after spending years of their lifes together)...

thats just it, i wouldnt have made it at all, i am not saying its a bad movie, i am just saying i thought it was way too violent thus i didnt like it at all, the only thing i can appreciate is the social overtones/commentary.

i feel sorry for you if that is the only thing you enjoy in film...although i usually enjoy is in moderation myself.

The whole point of making the movie was for the social commentary. It is defeatist to say that you liked the social commentary but the movie was too violent. That was kind of the point.

I got to agree with droidguy1119...the whole point of the social commentary was based on how violent it was. If the violence was used in moderation, it would have defeated the purpose of the message.

it is not defeatist (as that isnt an accurate word, which i think you used wrong) i am simply stating that i would never have made the movie, so my complaints cannot be grounded in a "this is what i would have done" argument. all i am saying is that the idea was good, but in the end it was just too violent, and there are much better ways to make such a movie instead of appealing to the mindless movie goers with over-the-top violence, especially when only a very small percentage of viewers understand the context of the film (you guys obviously get what it was about) i just think it is a movie that never needed to be made. i guess i am just the kind of movie-goer that prefers less violence, and more allusions to what they are trying to say instead of slapping you in the face with there preachy social commentaries, i prefer subtlety.

i hope i didnt offend you with the comment on the word usage, i was just confused by its context in your statement. again i apologize if offended.

It is almost laughable to think that the intention of ***asaku was to make this a biting criticism of modern Japanese youth. This movie was simply just a kick ass movie with a lot of violence and to facilitate that plot he added the "Japanese control of youth is out of control that is why we need to put them on an island so that they can kill each, that will teach them."

are you saying that it was not a social commentary on the state of japan's society? because it is a fact that it is what its about.

In the case of Battle Royale, I don't think the message could have been delivered subtly. Maybe more subtly than the movie is now, but not by much, IMO.

To Strangelove: It's also a satire on reality television, although much less so than social commentary.

What's laughable is to think that Mr. ***asaku wanted to make Battle Royale purely for entertainment. I guess you could just dismiss it's plethora of underlying subtext: class and social warfare--everyone's born equal, but with unequal opportunity (I'd hate to find out that I only got a fan in my backpack and not a submachine gun); self preservation vs social unity--do you fight for yourself or do you work with others to find an alternative solution?; a satire on the whole reality tv phenomenon...etc.

Sure, it's a kick-ass movie with a lot of shock value added to intensify the melodrama...but let's not dismiss it as disposable entertainment without a message.

I really liked the first one. Only problem I had with it was the violence. I was expecting way more.

I acually liked the sequel although it wasn't as good as the first. It had a lot of good action scenes but IMO alot of the students died too early
