The title comes from the alan parker (i think) film from a few years ago which featured violence in northern ireland. The of idea is (or as far as i know) an elephant in your living room which everyone ignores meaning that there is something so obvious in front of us but we wont talk about it, this leads me onto Elephants plot. Elephant is all about a school which comes under attack by two of its students in a columbine style massacre. The film stars mainly non-professional actors and is directed by gus van sant goes (unlike most of his movies) for a restrained, calm-before-the-storm style first hour, where we goes form character to character in the moments leading up to the shootings.
Unfortunately i am finding this extremely hard to reccemend, Elephant is so different and contains many scenes with no dialogue and just watching the characters walk through the school and not everyone is gonna have the patience for something like that. Also the end which finally culminates in the two teenagers turning the school to chaos is quite frightening and at time difficult to watch. Despites its subject the film really gives no indication as to why these two went on the killing spree instead it asks why them and not another one of the characters. While one of the shooter is bullied, he is not the only one who is and the question is asked what makes one different from the other. In conclusion Elephant is different and its very difficult to say i enjoyed a frightening and depressing movie such as this but what i can say is any awards it gets, it deserves and its really is a great film..........

It should be there. If you can't find it by the title, look up Gus Van Sant and it shoud be the top? item on his filmography.

This movie looks pretty good, even though I still haven't forgiven Gus Van Sant for his butchering of Psycho.

I can't wait to see this but no theater around me shows it. I might just get it off the interenet when my new computer arrives.

i thought the movie was stupid. the movie tries to be artistic but fails. all it is is a stereotypical movie about a school ie, the jock, loser who gets picked on shoots up school, preppy girls being bulimic (sp?) etc. all the chrs are static and boring,. again its nothing mind blowing.
