I need some help. I have this huge biography project in Lanuage Arts and I don't know what my subject should be. But i was thinking it should be some cool director. It needs to be someone dead and famous enough to have a couple books written about him/her. So if someone could list a coupld ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you do Michael Curtiz. (Casablanca) According to yahoo.com, he had a colorful life.

Wow, a newbie who also got the name of Mr. Anderson. Congratulations I must say, and welcome to the boards. :D
Although in response to the topic I would have to say Hitchcock.

All talk of sexual prefrences aside I'd go with Hitchcock, the man made some brilliant films.

Hitchcock would be interesting...
plus he was this whole creepy vibe about him.
It'd be interesting to read about him and how he actually behaves when he's not in front of a camera... Is he really that spooky?

Hitchcock would be awesome to do! or Charles Chaplin, George Cukor, Billy Wilder, aahh can't think of any more off the top of my head at the moment. I would love to do a project like that.
id go with either hitchcock or kubrick
both are pretty interesting and alot could be said about their films and their strange tendencies on set
Hitchcock, he is practically the godfather of suspense/thrillers. Sure, they are kind of tame now, but they were cool back when.

hitchcock
Hitchcock was a really funny guy...
Paul Newman once asked him what his motivation should be for a certain scene... Hithcock replied "Your paycheck."

thanks for all the ideas so far. all i could think of was hitchcock and kubrick, but I need to have a list of 10-15 possible contenders.
Citizen Kane

Actually, you should do Erich von Stroheim, he was a really bizarre man and known for his temper.
He also acted, and directed Greed, one of the greatest silent films of all time.
Another great director from the silent era was F.W. Murnau. He was best known for Nosferatu, but he also directed the stylistically influential Faust. Plus you can watch John Malkovich play him in Shadow of the Vampire... another good film.

Hitchcock was a great director, but as a person he was really weird, a total control freak, and very obsessive and controling about his women.
But, all geniuses are weird and there are certainly weird things about most great directors.
The best life stroy of all, would probably be Orsen Welles.
other great directors include:
Spike Lee
Martin Scorcese
Hayao Miyazaki
Ozu
Kurasawa
Federico Felini
Ingmar Bergman
Stanley Kubrick
John Ford
Fritz Lang
Jean Renoir
Francais Truffaut
and to finish a very unfinished list with a tidy 15, I will end it with SATYAJIT RAY
Citizen Kane

Nice.
Also:
Carl Theodor Dreyer
Jean Cocteau
Luis Bunuel
Vittorio De Sica
Jean Luc Godard
Alain Resnais
Agnes Varda
