This movie had an ending that left plenty of room for a sequel. Has there been any talk of doing one?

Not for Dogma it was part of Kevin Smith's Askew Trilogy that turned into a Quadrilogy.

Yes the Askew universe has been closed.

As should this thread. :p
I really don't care if it, but I thought that quip sounded rather cool. ;)

You mean...uhh...Quintrilogy (I think).
Clerks
Mallrats
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Except for the spin-off cartoon of Clerks (and the as-of-yet still simply rumored Mallrats animated sequel), there are never going to be any more Jay and Silent Bob flicks ever, or any that relate to those above five flicks, just comic books, and the aforementioned cartoon projects.

they are not making a mallrats sequel at all, smith explained that that was never actually going to happen, the only thing going on with the jersey "trilogy" is the new clerks animated movie, which he is now saying might not happen.

Really? I had been under the impression of two things:
a) The sequel already came out as a comic book, or will, using the same title Smith mentioned on the Mallrats commentary (Mallrats 2: Die Hard in a Mall).
b) If the Clerks: Sell Out movie was a success, Mallrats 2 would be up next.
Last I heard, Clerks: Sell Out went over well at a recent comic con, where Smith showed five minutes of Flash-animated test footage.

I think this is a BAD idea.

yeah, i messed up what i was trying to say about the clerks cartoon, what i meant was that he was saying it was possible it wasnt going to happen but a lot has been going on with it. i saw the footage, he said it wasnt going to be in the movie but it was just test footage and it was very funny. however all i heard about mallrats was that there was a possible comic sequel, but i dont know if that actually came out yet, however he explicitly stated that there was not going to be a film, but with him you never know, if you remember there were only supposed to be three movies in the jersey trilogy, so you never know.

Dogma was a victim of Smith's own success. So many celebrities wanted to be in it, that it became more about cameo's than a story. A sequel is unnecessary.

And especially since Dogma was a dog, and speaking of dogs, who in the hell what's to see Alanis Morissette reprise her role?

They are making a few clerks animated movies that will be straight to video. They are definatly doing at least one clerks animated movie using fash animation, if you go to kevs official site you can see the test footage...its pretty damn amazing !
sSeeing that we will never see a mallrats comic , I recently asked kevin if there was any chance of seeing a "mallrats: die hard in the mall" straight to video animated movie...and this is what he had to say ...

We did see her reprise her role already at the end of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

I didn't think Dogma was a victim of anything. Dogma is a great, funny movie, and it's unfortunate that there are people who don't fully appreciate it.

I also though dogma was great (but then again i worship kevin smith, so maybe im biost) I thoiught the whole idea of the film was so unique.
It would of been cool if the budget was bigger and mybe have a bit more action as a lot of the film is set in places where they can sit down and talk ( i.e a bars, cafes, fast food places etc) Infact kevin offered the film to rodreiguez to direct. Also jason lee was supposed to play loki, which i probably would of prefed...but damon still did a great job!

I think the film is fine the way it is, and how dare you suggest someone other than Smith should have directed it?

I didnt suggest anything, kevin ASKED robert rodreguez if he would direct dogma bacause he didnt know if he could direct "ACTION" I would of been more pissed than any one if kevin hadnt directed it...it was his baby! Also kevin has also stated that he wish he had more money and included more scope to the film so....
ohh by the by, I wouldnt never slag of kevin smith hes my idol!

Really? I thought just the opposite. It needed a smaller budget with a focus on the story and the issues, rather than "cool" visuals.

I didn't find Dogma had an ending that left plenty open for a sequel. It was an ending to a whacky religous film. We don't need a sequel where the angels and god and all that have to return. It would be a stupid thing that would just make no sense and ruin the original's value.

If they do have a sequal. Salma would have to be pole dancing again.
