Anyone know how the butterfly effect is? It's gotten poor ratings on Rottentomatoes, but I wanna hear from the public.

Sneek Preview...
It is not that bad, very stylish but it could have been better story wise.

IMO, not a good movie. Not good at all and exceptionally sleazy to boot.
First qualm. A shrink suggests that goold old Evan keep a daily journal. This he does, although apparently neither the shrink nor his mother ever read it, or their attention might have been snagged by the entries detailing that girl's father having forced them all to act in kiddie porn movies.... you'd think that a parent concerned enough to take her son to a shrink and knowing about the suggestion would have occasionally takin a peak at these books. Right? Wrong.
Ok, now we get to the time travelling part. This movie is based on a novel where a time traveller stepped on this cockroach in the past, comes back to the future and finds humanity gone. This si a great concept... which Butterfly Effect bypasses completely. Whenever Evan changes something, only the lives of his friends are effected and nothing else. Do their lives have no effect on the wider world? Apparently not.
Scenes of nudity and sex seemed to just be thrown in again and again for reasons of gratouity instead for plot devices. The child-porn element was disturbing but.... Evan goes back in time and gives the perverted father a stern talking to and that changes everything? The guy changes his ways? BS!
Thumper was a butt-ugly and benign character who we're supposed to believe is a chick magnet on three legs.... right.
A depressing movie and in many more ways than one.

How often does one of your actions change the world?

Heheh yes I got it :D
I'm looking forward to seeing this...to either be suprised by Ashton's ability to actually act in a serious role or to laugh at him because he can't. ;)

How can I tell, unless I can take away every reaction that has occured as a result of an action I've made and look at what the world is like without my participation or had I chosena different course in life.

Your just being overdramatic now. Most people's lives will never have any effect on the outside world

You're just being God-like now. ;)
I'm not over-dramatizing, simply stating.

Loved it...dont think it got a fair rating from the critics....everyone Ive talked to say the same thing. With a year full of remakes and sequels was a refreshing and original film

Who's to say there weren't any major changes anyway. The film only dealt with the group of people.

Most entertaining and cleverly written film ive seen in years.
It's best if you go in knowing nothing. Unfortunatly it's also only the best the first time you see it. It's not a good film for immediate multiple viewings.

First, I loved the premise of the movie. Second, it's too bad this movie wasn't made with a good director, and good actors. Ashton Kutcher just can't handle a movie like this. This movie could of been so good. Just disappointing, it leaves nothing for the movie watcher to think about and breaks the "show don't tell rule". Just bad execution, and bad directing.

What?
I thought Kutcher did very well for being a comedic actor for so long...

Kutcher did just fine. But I agree that the execution was poor.

Better execution. A good director doesn't need money to direct a decent film.

Movie was really good with nice idea, and I know some real bad executed shows/movies on tv which have cost more money...

If you know good acting, you know he didn't do a good job. There is a reason Cameron Crowe fired him and told him to take acting lessons. Adam Sandler was a comedy actor too, and he was 100X better in Punch-Drunk-Love than Kutcher was in the Butterfly effect.

I just saw this yesterday...wasn't bad at all. Of course, there were some serious parts where I laughed, just because it was Ashton Kutcher ( When he woke up with no arms, I couldn't help but laugh because of the delivery of his line, "What the **** is this?!" ) I thought it was a little overkill on the shock factor though...every single time Evan blacks out, its always a jump out of your seat moment, and it happens a lot. There are a lot of those jump out of your seat moments, though. It was very disturbing...ahem...and depressing, too. So yea, I'd recommend it, though if you're looking for a "feel good movie", this is far from it.

I thought the movie was GREAT. Great story, great direction, and good performances from Smart, Stoltz and Kutcher. Going into this I was thinking Kutcher's performances was going to suck, but I had a realization.. the ****er can act. He may not be Tom Hanks, but he knows what he's doing. I never liked him or what he's done on TV, but atleast now I have a smidge of respect for the guy

I think everyone laughed at that scene. Many did in my theatre. Which is good. I think Kutcher did a great job in the serious role and I loved it. He did a fantastic job. The light comedy that came with it in a couple scenes in the movie was fine by me, as well as his shocked line.

I went and saw this movie for the second time last night and I took my Aunt who had not seen it yet. I had to explain some parts of it to her afterwards but she enjoyed it. I loved it just as much as I did the first time I saw it. I still can't wait for the Director's Cut DVD.
