What a coincidence. I was just looking at Indiana Jones artwork today, and found that the guy who did the Temple of Doom and Last Crusade covers also did the Sorcerer's Stone (no big surpirse there). Anyway, I was also digging through the depths of forgotten Harry Potter threads and found that this guy, Drew Struzan, also did a poster for CoS that got rejected. Except for the stars, I think it's a helluva lot better than those cheap pictures they used instead.
Anyway, In addition to HP and Indiana Jones, he also did the Star Wars posters, and other classic looking stuff. I think this guy is amazing. Would you all rather see them use his artwork for POA, or have them use something new? I, personally, like Drew's stuff.
Oh, the CoS poster (for those who never saw it, or don't remember) is here http://www.comingsoon.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12740

I like it, but I understand why they rejected it. I mean, doesnt it give just the tiniest feeling of Déja Vu? ;)

Here we go again. I don't even know how many arguements I've had about John Williams music, and I always say the same thing. It only sounds similar in the sense that you can tell it's his music. The same holds true for artists. He used the same style of drawing, but there's no one to one representation between any of the posters.
Here's another example; my dad and I used to do a lot of still life sketches together a lot. It doesn't matter what either one of us drew, you could tell who's was who's just from the WAY it was drawn.

He's done a LOT of movies beyond Star Wars.
He has a specific style, that's all.

Im not saying its the same, but it is incredibly similar. When I saw it I was immediately reminded of Star Wars, and I guess the people at warner bros didnt want that.
I know what you mean though.

Harry Potter does have a lot of similarities to Star Wars, but I can see why the would have wanted to change it.

The artist for the posters seems to be following John Williams. For John Williams did Star Wars, so the artist did the posters for that fantasy series. John Williams does the music for Harry Potter, so the artist creates a poster for that fantasy movie. Though, most movies he hasn't done, but maybe they know each other...

He he. I was thinking the same thing about Williams and Struzan. I think it's just that the Directors/Producers of these movies have the same kind of taste as each other (and me). I like Both of these guys, and I like the way Spielberg's movies turn out (a lot of which use both of these crewmen).
Anyway, like I was originally asking, do you guys think that Struzan should continue to do cover art for these movies, or should they keep trying different stuff?

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then what Hollywood does is illegal in most every country in the world. :D
Let's be honest, the nicest thing one can say about the structure of Hollywood is that it's ;) Incestuous.

The old rejected poster looks good, the stars are space filler put in that would be covered by the title and any other needed information. That same style is used for book covers.

It's a nice poster, but something I would hang in my room for show, and not really to show my love for Harry Potter. It's pretty and junk, but just doesn't look enough like a movie poster.
