Remember a while back they were saying that the pacific-theater-of-war version of Band of Brothers was on the boiler?
Well, was wondering if it'll be out anytime soon.

Well the first one was based on a book.....I'mnot sure how it would translate...

You could probably find several books that could be adapted to make a "Band of Brothers" type of film or mini-series. One I can think of is "Flags of Our Fathers" by James Bradley. I just read it a few weeks ago and it's one fantastic book. Bradleys father was one of the Iwo Jima flag raisers and is immortalized in the Marine Corp Memorial sculpture in Virginia. The book is about John Bradley and the other 5 Marines who raised the flag and about the battle of Iwo Jima itself. It was one the most viscious, bloodiest battles ever and reading it, you can see that those Marines were as much a Band of Brothers as the guys from the 101st in Europe. Get the right screen adaptation and it could succeed.

It's HBO working with Tom Hanks and Steven Speilburg... This cannot fail, and will go through. But they're both busy guys, and this was only announced several months ago, so don't expect anything soon...

It would be interesting to have a Speilberg and Hanks produced account of the axis side. I'm sure a pacific theater version would be very interesting but would seem too much of the same if shown through the perspective of americans. I'd rather see a complete 360 degree and get an account of the japanese, rather than the US.

As far as I know, Hanks and Speilburg are still going ahead with a Pacific Theater mini-series for HBO...
But here's a tidbit from a few weeks ago about one of Speilburg's upcoming projects, based around the book mentioned above, with Clint, no less:
Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg are teaming up to bring the story of the Battle of Iwo Jima to the big screen, reports Variety. Eastwood will direct an adaptation of "Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima" for DreamWorks, the studio co-founded by Spielberg. The trade describes the battle and writer as follows:
The battle, which took place in winter 1945, was a turning point in the Pacific theater. In one month, 22,000 Japanese and 26,000 Americans died, and the battle produced one of World War II's most enduring images: a photograph of six soldiers raising an American flag on the flank of Mount Suribachi, the island's commanding high point.
One of the six was Navy corpsman John Bradley. Bradley never mentioned his experiences to his family, and it was only after his death in 1994 that his son James discovered his father's heroism. James Bradley wrote the "Flags of Our Fathers" book, which was published in 2000, with Ron Powers.
