Richard Taylor from WETA, who's doing the props and crap from LOTR said that KK is going to be better than LOTR. Is this crazy talk? Or did i just misenterpret?

It might in terms of special effects. IT would be hard to top LOTR on any level though heh.

No its true, PJ even said that Kong will be better than LOTR, which is a bit insane. I just dont see how PJ can possibly top LOTR.

I think it will be equally great

i don't know how itwill be better, but as we know, PJ has a certain knack for doing the impossible (or what seems to be so)

i doubt it will be better, they'd have to do a damn good job. I also thought Taylor was talking in terms of special effects.

well, if he was talking in those terms, they've got another 2 years to continuis developing their technologies, and LOTR fans know how far massive has come in the last 3 years

We shall have to wait and see then.

It's one movie so I highly doubt the substance and depth will be better than what we've seen and what were going to see from the LOTR trilogy.

The source material of King Kong just doesn't have what it takes to top LOTR. I don't doubt that King Kong can be good, but unless PJ takes a LOT of liberties with the plot, there's simply no way it can best LOTR. Maybe they just mean the big ape will look better than Gollum.

Well, I think Jackson will do a good job, because while KK is a remake and LotR is an adaptation, the process is much the same, and Peter Jackson has a smaller volume of material to cover with KK.

I think aestheically it will be better. He will have more leway (sp?) in the writing and the details of certain things. On LOTR he had to please the fans of the book and be able to get an audience who know nothing about Tolkien interested. With Kong he doesn't need to do that and can just focus on making a movie.

Why are we comparing the 2 anyway? LOTR is great, Kong will be great.

Visual FX, maybe.

Storyline, not in a million years.

Richard Taylor, IMO, was merely trying to buoy his confidence because he's had to leave Middle-earth pretty much for good. Same for PJ, although I must say he's looking tired.

Aaargh!

Well, when you think about it, The Lord of the Rings is a full-blown epic, while King Kong is a full-blown monster movie. The two don't even fall into the same category.

Tell the truth, they'll each be great in their own way, but when placed head to head, LOTR will have to win. Put it simply, there's three of them, and one of KK.

I think it's going to be a close tie. But we have to wait till 2005 to find out.

My prediction is that King Kong will have less CGI then Lord of the Rings. Basically, what Taylor may be saying is that this will be better because it will bring everything to life instead of being one big CGI-fest.
