I thought it would be nice to have this before the third film comes out. What we could do is discuss everyone's favorite scenes and moments from both FOTR and TTT. And once ROTK comes out then we could talk about our favorite moments and scenes from it in this thread. What I'm going to do is have my 11 favorite scenes from LOTR and post each one until the release of ROTK.

Okay from FOTR, I would have to say:
The Prologe
The Nazgul
A knife in the dark
The Departure of Boromir

The first 20 minutes of FOTR are just magical. Not so much the Prologue, but certainly the Concerning Hobbits, Very Old Friends, A Long Expected Party scenes...and then all of the exposition with Gandalf and Frodo at Bag End in The Shadow of the Past. :applaud: I know that I will want to watch those parts after I've seen ROTK.

Gandalf's fall in Moria is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes I have seen in a movie, especially when one considers that he was effectively the lead character up to that point. The Breaking of the Fellowship montage at the end of FOTR is also amazingly emotional.

In TTT, I loved Gandalf vs the Balrog, The Ent Draught, Helm's Deep, The Flooding of Isengard, Flotsam and Jetsam - not forgetting about all of the Gollum 'stuff'. :applaud:

I consider FOTR to be my favourite film of all-time, ahead of even Titanic. Hopefully, ROTK will come very close (if not the TE, then most definitely the EE). :cool:

-Gandalf vs. Saruman - Tell me, friend. When did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness!
-Flight to the Ford - Give up the halfling, she-elf!
-Gandalf's escape from Isengard - So you have chosen death.
-Aragorn & Arwen on the bridge in Rivendell - It is mine to give to whom I will.
-*The Bridge of Khazad-Dum - You shall not pass!
-Lothlorien - Will you look into the mirror?
-*Breaking of the Fellowship - Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to...I don't mean to.

TTT
-Merry & Pippin meeting Treebeard - Don't encourage it!
-Arwen's vision - And there will be no comfort for you.
-The Battle of Helm's Deep - Show them no mercy, for you shall receive none.
-*Gandalf and the Rohirrim charging down the mountainside - To the king!
-Frodo offering the Ring to the Nazgul - What are you doing? Where are you going?
-Sam's Speech Montage - But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow, even darkness must pass.

Hopefully ROTK will bring even more incredible, memorable scenes and quotes. :)

I totally agree, that scene gives me chills every time I see it, it's so heroic, the angle use in that scene, the way you see them riding down that hill, it's simply majectic, the score it's perfect too.

Yeah I love that part this city Osgiliath has been Reclaimed for Gondor for GONDOR for Gondor.

the music for every scene I thought was fantastic...and in FoTR I think the best scenes were the mirror of galadriel, lothlorien, the Balrog, a shadow of the past(where Gandalf tells Frodo about the Ring), and Boromir's death scene. In TTT I thought the best scenes were Helms Deep, the ents destroying Isengard, and Gandalf's return as the White Wizard.

My fav scene from the Trilogy, thus far is in FOTR, after the Fellowship has left Rivendell. PJ goes into all kinds of swoopy helicopter shots of the troop traveling and then, the money shot.

The music builds and the films cuts to the Fellowship slowly climbing up into full view ,in single file atop a rocky range.

There are so many scenes to chose from, and I feel as though each one has been branded in to my memory- so powerful, in a Tolken inspired world all its own. The originality of the Tolken is unparalelled, except for that of Jackson's vision to make the words, and worlds come alive. Oscar worthy for sure!!

I have to get specific...

In no particular order...

-Gandalf grabbing Glamdring on the way down with the Balrog, more importantly the sound it makes

-Aragorn putting on his armor at Helm's Deep, the music is perfect

-The Ents initial march towards Isengard, moves me to tears everytime

-Nazgul approaching Weathertop, can't get much creepier

-The elven horse flood at the Fords of Rivendell, coolest effect out of the whole film, subtle yet fierce

-pan around Gandalf on the Bridge of Khazad Dum, the light and sound effects are magical

-from the EE, the Huorns hiddenly destroying the Orcs at Helm's Deep, worth the 3.5 hour wait

-the old man letting the arrow go early at Helm's Deep, as my friend said, "leave it to an old man to start the war!"

-Boromir dying with the statue of a king behind him, couldn't have been shot any better

there's others, but those are my most memorable

there are ALOT of scenes that give me goosebumps when i watch LOTR. the main ones (so far) are:

1. "you shall not pass!"
2. opening scene in TTT
3. battle of HD when aragorn orders the archers in the courtyard to fire
4. many many others that i cant think of right now

I would have to say, Gandalf's fall in Moria with Frodo's scream is one of my favorite scenes. It's like a knife to the heart every time!

Also, Frodo standing at the beach building up resolve to go alone into Mordor to do the Quest, and then the subseqent scene with Sam.

And the Boromir battle with stone-chucking Merry and Pippin behind him, and his death scene.

TTT:
"The Ents are going to war; it is likely that we go to our doom." Oh man, that whole sequence with that music is the best, but it just cuts off!

Gandalf's ride with the rohirrim towards Helm's Deep.

Gollum's speech at the end. "We could let her do it...."

-Eowyn grabbing Merry so he can go to battle
-the charge of the Rohan

-Arwen's vision of Aragorn and their son

My ultimate favorite shot in LOTR is from the Fellowship on Weathertop. The music and the darkness was absolutely brilliant, and how it was all in slow motion. My favorite shot was an above shot of the four hobbit with their swords, slowly backing up and the Nazgul grouping towards them.
