Remember when JP said he wasn't gonna do The Hobbit?
Well, dont count on it! According to Coming Soon (http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=2622), he is planning on doing it, with some of the returning actors.

Too far away though. Waiting a year for each LOTR film was bad enough.
I heard that the only reason a LotR movie got made was JRRT sold the rights to it back in 1969. The Tolkien estate still holds the rights to The Hobbit. Heard they will not seel the rights, they think it can't be done faithfully.

I have mixed feelings about him making this film, i guess it all depends on time.

I think the Hobbit will be a real anti-climax compared to LOTR. Its a great story, to be sure, but it's more of a childrens story than LOTR. I mean sure the battle of five armies might be cool and all....but i dunno.....when compared to the drama of ROTK, I think people would leave the theater going "well.....that was pretty cool......i guess...."

This film will be awesome, but the story I think is not as good as LOTR, but it will be good nonetheless, and even better with PJ at the helm.

I've seen that he's not going to make 'The Hobbit', but he's considering it very closely, so there might be a chance he will.
Kinjo...I'm sure you're right! It'll not be such a big deal.
Well....I'll never get tired of the books LOTR, but with all the commercial and stuff, I will begin to be tired of the movie....
Or the produces....those with the money.
So...all I'm saying is that, I don't hope I'll get tired of the Hobbit before it's being shown in theater....
You know....Peter Jackson didn't get 10 million dollars or so, as I had thought. He has been given 2-4, can't remember.

i think the only problem with people going to this movie is that they will compare it to lotr way too much. it is a much more intimate story, and it will probly be treated differently, hopefully for the best

That's an interesting point. It is a "lighter" kind of story. But they could treat it in a more serious way, I suppose. There's a ton of action in that story: captured by trolls, hunted by orcs, fights with spiders, captured by elves, escape in barrels, kill a dragon, war with the baddies. The dwarves themselves could be treated in a lighter way, as PJ has treated Gimli - kind of making fun of their self-righteousness. But there are plenty of tense moments as well. In some ways, it would be a lot easier to make this into a movie, because you can just read the story and the scenes just jump right out at you.
It's really the perfect way to extend this franchise, if that's what they're looking to do. You've got a story that stands on its own - the dwarves going to kill the dragon to get their money back - while at the same time you've got plenty of pre-quel-ish tie-ins to the LOTR movies - the ring, gollum, Bilbo, Gandalf, etc.

I hope this movie is made! Also that PJ does it because of what he has done with LOTR is fantastic!

JP has stated that he will be happy if he does one major film in his life and that is LOTR's, so if he does do the hobbit it wont be a major film or has epic!
It will be just a simple film where people will come out of the cinema happy and not wow'ed.

I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY. I thought The Hobbit was a disappointing story after I read it although I might have to attribute that to my age at the time (15)--I was already too jaded. But the fact remains that The Hobbit would also be a disappointing movie after the grandeur and amazing depth LOTR had and continues to have. I sincerely hope PJ doesn't make it. IF he does, it would be comparable to the complacency and ignorance of the Wachowski Brothers in making Reloaded and Revolutions.

Please lets just LOTR as a trilogy, making any more movies like The Hobbit and that silmarillion will make it even worse. LOTR trilogy is boring enough and lets just leave it at that. Let Peter work on more interesting projects like King Kong or Godzilla.

Interesting that a TROLL wouldn't like LOTR.
