They might make a movie based on the Hobbit (prequel to LOTR which talks about Bilbo's adventures that is mentioned in the movies) the characters I know who are in the Hobbit that are in LOTR are

Bilbo
Gandualf
Gollum

They might be able to give Legolas a cameo in Mirkwood?

When PJ just said "Arwen would feature" he almost certainly meant as a cameo.

I don't know if they own the rights to the backstory "Tale of Aragorn and Arwen" but it shows how Arwen met Aragorn in Rivendell when he was 20, and his lineage had just been revealed to him.

Of course, Arwen had been in Lothlorien before then, that's why he hadn't met here before.

However, at the time of the Hobbit *Aragorn is 10 and the meeing doesn't take place for 10 years more*

But I think they can nudge things around a little.

***Legolas could almost certainly make a cameo, he is the son of the Elven-king of Mirkwood (Thranduil) and could be one of the unnamed Elves from that chapter

Gimli was about 50 at the time, but the Dwarf age of maturity is around 100, so he was really just a kid and maybe the CHARACTER could have a walk-on. JRD taking the part of another Dwarf might work, but then again, I think the fact that for YEARS he's been a 6 foot++ man playing a Dwarf and makeup that MELTS HIS SKIN would deter him from doing another one.

THe Hobbit is more Dwarf-centric than LOTR was.

Although I look foward to Beorn.

Bilbo is definately going to be recast, because Ian Holm was too old to pay "flashback-Bilbo" in the first place, but he may have a cameo at the end of the story, many years later when Balin and Gandalf visit.

Heck, Frodo and the Hobbit crowd may walk on in the last two minutes, after the story has fast fowarded many years, and it wouldn't violate anything.

Elrond is a maing character, as is

****Gollum*****in all his "Riddles in the Dark" glory!

I'd love it if they actually made a line of dialog like this: After Bilbo explains how he 'won' to the Dwarves, have Balin say "Wasn't that more of a "QUESTION" than a RIDDLE?" etc.,

*****The Stone Trolls seen in FOTR Return!!!

>>>>>>>>*******What if they show the White Council deciding to fight the Necromancer of Dol Guldur, ON SCREEN?

We could work in both Galadriel (I almost forgot, Celeborn, too), and SARUMAN!

That would show a great arc for Saruman! I think too many people after seeing FOTR didn't understand the gravity and shock that SARUMAN, the HEAD WIZARD, and betrayed the Good Guys---it was the equivalent of Dumbledore or Charles Xavier going evil (Yes, I am aware of the Onslaught Crisis)!!!!!!!

****GWAIHIR, the WINDLORD, King of All Eagles, returns, and as a major character!

Could some animate trees make a cameo?

arwen wasn't in The Hobbit, but just as could be done with Legolas in Mirkwood, we could see her in the background

Nice post.

I'd just add that Sauron could make his way into the picture - he was just a few miles away, after all - but I'm not sure what form he would take.

Oh, and some Shelob-like spiders, though probably not as nasty, and wargs too.

i actually think they would have to redesign the Spiders.....Im not sure if I could actually picture Shelob like spiders swinging in the trees

They shouldn't work in too many of the existing LOTR characters but I'm all for Legolas, Arwen and probably a younger Gimli.

Ang hey bring on Elladan, Elrohir and Glorfindel too.
