I am a huge fan of the movies and a big fan of teh books but me beign a hollywood kinda kid, i understand most of the changes in the Lord of the Rings films, but my dad, who has read the books faithfully from when he was my age and younger (i'm 17) and is somewhat purist. I hate how we argue at the changes. Also with all the changes i have heard for ROTK he will be pissed for like three days (which is a whole for him)

Lol, tell him to forget about the changes and watch the movie as it is, and tell him extended edition will have all the cuts and scenes from the book.

Tell him to quit his *****ing there is nothing he can do about it. He should be watching it expecting to see a fan adaption of the book, not the book itself.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm more like your Dad than you, and I'm guessing he won't be nearly as annoyed by the ROTK changes as he was about the TT changes. :)

So you're going to be on safer turf with this upcoming movie than you were with TTT. You should say "yeah, I wish they could have included that scene too." Not having seen it yet, I'm guessing that the Mouth of Sauron and the Gandalf vs. Head Nazgul scenes are easily defensible for time reasons, but the lack of Faramir-Eowyn sounds like it will be harder to defend. In reality, I think they should have included that in order to bring those characters some closure, and dropped some of the battle scenes. But we knew that in order for this movie to be made, Jackson was going to make it basically an action movie. That's just the reality of the movie business.

Eowyn/Faramir is easily the most suitable cut to be left for the EE in ROTK. IMHO Tolkien was weak on such character relationships, and the Eowyn/Faramir is a prime example. There was precious little time devoted to it in the book, but a compressed film version would be even worse!

By all accounts ROTK is the most faithful of the 3 films. The only difference is that there are a few high profile cuts. These will all be in the EE though, so why worry. I watched the FOTR EE yesterday, and despite it's length and the amount they packed in, there was still a lot left out completely, and to fit everything in (and do it justice) would take films twice as long! It's just not possible.

Enjoy the films as films, not the book, and try to consider tham as 'based on the book'. Remember Baz Lurmhan's modern day re-make of Romeo and Juliet?

FOTR is probly the hardest book to convert into film due too it having so much into it, I mean the jerney from the shire and too the prouncing pony (Sorry for spelling) was a lot more in the book with this part but only shows the jerney leaving the shire and ferry scene.

These 3 films would probly be 24hours long if they covered all the story =]
which would be sweet tbh! =]

and they defintely wouldnt make as much money as they are now, so no studio would have financed a 24 hour film series.
