perhaps poorly worded on my part, downflow311. i didnt mean to say that Matrix graphics were better than ROTK. i personally put them at the same level, so i dont really think that ROTK has it in the bag as it didnt go beyond the Matrix, nor did the Matrix go beyond it.

sidenote: sad to not see Sean Astin in that supporting actor category :(

Well I'm furious that Sean Astin at the very LEAST wasn't given a nomination. That pisses me off. They won't give him one, but they'll give it to some crap performance by Tom Cruise? I'm sorry, but he was not good in that film AT ALL. Does not deserve that nomination. And Will. H Macy for Seabiscuit? Sure the dude did OKAY, but he was in it for, what, 5 minutes? Jeff Bridges I could understand, but Will Macy???? NO NO NO....However, I can be happy for a few other things. ROTK getting 4 noms...very good job dudes! Very good for this sort of film though, lol. And also...hehehehe....Uma Thurman for Kill Bill??? Oh, I'm so happy!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Dude, that would so rock if she won. Major brownie points also to Evan Rachel Wood, Holly Hunter, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black The Man, Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp, (whoohoo!!!) Billy Bob Thorton, Peter Sarasgard, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, and Charlize Theron. My best of luck to all of you. As for ROTK, you go in there, and you win those awards. My heart goes with you...

RebelwithaCause
12-18-2003, 09:49 AM
See..the award is for Best Visual Effects, but it depends upon how you look at the award. My way of seeing it, Best Use of Visual Effects in a movie, not Best Visual Effects, lol. Matrix, since they spent so much damn money on it, would have a very good chance of winning, and the effects were good...but by no means stunning like ROTK. In terms of either use in the story or just visual appearance, ROTK wins.

adnamasevoltam
12-18-2003, 10:00 AM
well...i mean...if were looking at stirring/stunning film then ROTK wins, but as far as VFX...both ROTK and Matrix stunned/awed me to just be like - WOW! neither really did anything more awing than the other...just MO though...well see...

as for the noms:

the lack of Sean Astin is VERY disappointing. as u say Rebel, he should AT LEAST get a nom, even if he doesnt win. i personally thought Cruise did an excellent job in TLS. win worthy? not really, but nomination worthy. i personally forsee Penn winning as he should have for I Am Sam and did an equally powerful performance here. i think its awesome Johansen has two nominations too. i think shes awesome. my vot goes to Murray over Depp b/c i just LOVED him in LIT SOOOO much, though i did love Depp in POTC too. and the score category will be a tough fight too, Zimmer, Shore and Elfman.....DAMN! lol

12-18-2003, 02:13 PM
well, the golden globe nominations were announced. ROTK only got four nominations:

-best picture (drama)

-best score
-best song

Here are the awards I think it will be nominated for (a predicted win has an asterisk next to it, non-winners have who I think the real win will be)

Best Picture (Cold Mountain)
Best Director - Peter Jackson*
Best Supporting Actor - Sean Astin (Tim Robbins, Mystic River)
Best Adapted Screenplay (House of Sand & Fog)
Best Sound*
Best Visual Effects*
Best Cinematography*
Best Art Direction*
Best Costume Design (The Last Samurai)
Best Makeup*
Best Original Score*
Best Original Song ("You Will be My Ain True Love" - Cold Mountain
Music & Lyrics by: Sting)

I think 12 nominations, 7 wins is reasonable for a film like this. Who knows, with all the wins I gave it, maybe it WILL win best picture.

Glordreen
12-18-2003, 05:50 PM
Cold Mountain will most definatley not win Best Picture, its getting mixed reviews and its BO will be terrible, as ROTK will be dominating. ROTK will take Best Picture

I dont understand why the academy made that rule, its so idiotic. But it is possible for it to still be nomed, because they are campaigning for it. The ROTK score is easily the best ever, it should win for that at the Globes, hell it will win all that it is nomed for at the Globes.

All I wanna know is how the hell Cold Mountain got so many GG nominations. Like Glordreen said, I've been reading some very mixed reviews that ranged from great to downright boring. Hopefully it won't be this way at the Oscars.

Glordreen
12-18-2003, 06:53 PM
Its because Mirmax practically controls the GG's with their money and polotics, although Mirmax's films do not win all the time, they do usually get most of the noms, The Hours got 8 last year, and it was Mirmax.

Glordreen
12-18-2003, 07:35 PM

Return of the King has picked up two awards at the San Diego Film Critics awards

So far this is what ROTK has won

-Best Picture (NYFCC)
-Best Director (SFCC)
-Best Director (SDFCC)
-Best Acting Ensemble (NBR)

These are all the major awards it has won, it has a won a bunch of techs at different places. and there are still many award shows to come, and the GG's which ROTK has scored 4 noms. Best Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Song. Thats damn good! And if the GG's know whats good for them ROTK will take all 4 awards.

Disappointing that ROTK hasn't picked up any acting nominations for the Golden Globes, but the biggest farce, almost laughable IMO is this -

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced Michael Douglas as the recipient of its Cecil B. De Mille Award for Outstanding Achievement, to be presented at the 61st annual Golden Globe Awards on January 25, 2004.

And I thought it was just the Academy that were filled with a bunch of senile old men. (oh, wait a minute ... maybe that's why they put forward MD's name in the first place!)

I dont know, some stupid rule that the idiotic academy made up. But there is a chance the Score will be nomed, cause their campaigning fo it. I also am pissed off the Sean didnt get the nom, he deserves the win.

Cold Mountain, while increasingly looking worse everyday, is still exactly the kind of movie Oscars like to award.

Big stars, cheesy love story, anti-war in theme (the Academy probably wants to make a political statement.) And it is epic, while not the most so this year.

I have thought all along that Cold Mountain was just another vehicle to: 1) Pick up lots of undeserved awards for Miramax, and 2) Allow Nicole Kidman to find a way to take off her clothers.

Very surprising to see Revolutions not in the first shortlist. Maybe it's an anti-'all CGI and marketting hype with no real plot, rubbish story, dialogue, acting' film decision.

If ROTK doesn't win though given that shortlist, it will be a complete farce.

Here is NY Daily's Jack Mathews top ten list.

1. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King": The best fantasy movie experience since 1940's "The Thief of Bagdad," and one of the most deserved success stories in Hollywood history.

2. "21 Grams": Alejandro González Iñárritu's followup to "AmoresPerros" is a brilliantly conceived evocation of loss and spiritual crisis.

3. "Mystic River": The rare movie that's better than its source novel, featuring career performances from Sean Penn and Tim Robbins and providing further evidence of the cool storytelling style of Clint Eastwood.

4. "Winged Migration": This remarkable French documentary about the migratory behavior of birds puts wings on its audience and lets us see the world as they do.

5. "American Splendor": Combining actors with the characters they're playing was just one of the clever strokes of this biographical curio about blue-collar comic book author Harvey Pekar.

6. "The School of Rock": I was laughing so hard I forgot that I hate this kind of music.

7. "The Magdalene Sisters": An eye-opening social drama about Rome-sponsored morals prisons for Irish girls that were operating into the 1990s.

8. "Stuck on You": More inspired lunacy from the Farrelly brothers, about conjoined twins who like each other too much to consider separating.

9. "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World": The story is no "Mutiny on the Bounty" or "Captains Courageous," but it evokes greater period authenticity than any high seas adventure that has gone before.

10. "Bad Santa": Bah humbug indeed, this depraved comedy about a dissolute department store Santa and his felonious elf is more fun than a drunk puppy.

From Oscarwatch.com

The LA Times (number 1 was withheld for some reason)

Kenneth Turan's Top Ten!

Ladies and gentlemen, drumroll, please: "Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary," "Amandla!," "Lost in La Mancha," "Rivers and Tides," "Winged Migration," "Spellbound," "Step Into Liquid," "OT: Our Town," "The Weather Underground," "Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator," "Balseros," "Bus 174," "Etre et Avoir," "Charlie: The Life and Art of Charlie Chaplin," "Tupac: Resurrection," "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," "The Fog of War."

If there has been a stronger year across the board for the documentary genre since the Lumiere brothers filmed workers coming out of their factory in 1895, it does not come to mind. If 2003 was the year of anything, it was the year the documentary came into its own, and putting the best of the genre at the top of a 10-best list is the least thanks a grateful nation should give.

[deleted]

2. "Mystic River." An overpowering crime drama that investigates the most basic human emotions, faultlessly acted by an ideal ensemble and directed by Clint Eastwood in the best, most mature work of his career.

3. "House of Sand and Fog." Staggering performances by Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly animate this deeply moving classic tragedy about two strangers on a terrible collision course. As with "Mystic," restrained direction (by the debuting Vadim Perelman) is the key to success.

4. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." The closing chapter of the cinematic epic of our time, a richly imagined story whose ability to make a made-up world completely real has us always in its grip.

5. "The Triplets of Belleville." This French animated feature is a creation of such dazzling eccentricity and uninhibited imagination it reminds us that the movies can be wonderful fun, they really can.

6. "Lost in Translation." Tart and sweet, unmistakably funny and exceptionally well-observed, this delicate and distinctive film did nothing but good for stars Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson and director Sofia Coppola.

7. "Sweet Sixteen" and "Dirty Pretty Things." How good it is to see Ken Loach and Stephen Frears, two of Britain's best-regarded directors, both coming out with gripping films dealing with social problems in the most dramatically involving way.

8. "The Station Agent" and "Shattered Glass." One is a charming character riff about the need to connect, the other is a persuasive examination of a troubled personality. Together they are the kind of personal films that typify American independents at their best.

9. "Cold Mountain." A satisfying Civil War saga convincingly acted by Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger and told by director Anthony Minghella with the kind of bravura visual scope and eye for romance with a capital R that brings to mind Minghella's Oscar-winning "The English Patient."

10. "Nowhere in Africa." A major hit in Germany, a deserved Oscar winner here, this tale of Jewish refugees struggling in Africa is an intelligent epic told without special pleading and able to cut deep enough to reveal a keen specificity of experience.

And ROTK didn't make wither Ebert's or Roeper's lists, but here they are 'cause you requested them.

Ebert

1. "Monster"
2. "Lost in Translation"
3. "American Splendor"
4. "Finding Nemo"
5. "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World"
6. "Mystic River"
7. "Owning Mahowny"
8. "The Son"
9. "Whale Rider"
10. "In America"

And Roeper:
1. "In America"
2. "Mystic River"
3. "Lost in Translation"
4. "21 Grams"
5. "Elephant"
6. "The Barbarian Invasions"
7. "The Station Agent."
8. "Whale Rider"
9. "Monster"
10. "Seabiscuit"

LOL...thanks for the scans by the way Rizor...yeah...what is #1? That is odd....I'm actually surprised that ROTK isn't there....I mean, this is the dude that said that this film was, "The Cinematic epic of our time, the one by which all others will be Judged. The one film to end it all." Now how is it possible that you can say that about a movie, and yet still give it a number 4 spot...and what am I missing about Mystic River? Sure it was well made, and brilliantly acted....but beyond that, it was interesting, and had good tragic elemends, but not one of the best pics of the year. Its a film to admire, not to love....unless for its acting.

Any new awards yet?

Glordreen
12-25-2003, 10:34 PM
nope. There is like a 2 week gap of no award shows or critic award shows, and we are in the middle of it. I believe the next recognized award chows are the BAFTA's and there noms are announced Jan. 7, but we have yet to get into the big boys yet. Such as the SAG's, DGA's, PGA's, Golden Globes ceremony, Oscar noms, and Oscar ceremony.

Brock Landers
12-25-2003, 10:36 PM
One of the cast better get an acting nomination.

I'm pulling for either Astin or McKellen.....

Glordreen
12-26-2003, 01:15 AM
Astin has the best chance although both deserve noms. I am surprised they arent campaigning for Billy Boyd, he was brilliant.

Queen Arwen
12-26-2003, 04:06 AM
I hope you don't find me ignorant, Glordreen, but what are the PGA's? Am I right in guessing it's the Producers' Guild Awards? And when are the Oscar noms going to be announced?

Queen Arwen
12-26-2003, 04:08 AM
Boyd was brilliant. Personally, I thought he gave a more powerful performance than Astin did...or rather, a performance on par with the excellent and beautiful Astin performance. It's really not possible that he gave a better performance, but for the amount of time he had onscreen, he was just as brilliant as Sean Astin, in my opinion. I would push for him to get a Supporting Actor nom.

Here are the tallies for all top ten charts. The first number is for how many lists they have been on, and the second number is how many times they were #1 on to ten list.

1. LOST IN TRANSLATION 86, 12
2. AMERICAN SPLENDOR 60, 5
3. MYSTIC RIVER 59, 14
4. THE RETURN OF THE KING 56, 17
5. ELEPHANT 54, 7

So even though ROTK is fourth for the amount of lists it was on, it is first for how many times its was #1 on a list. :applaud:

I'm not sure if this has been discussed but... Is it just me who adores Andy Serkis for Gollum?

HE'S ROBBED OF A NOMINATION, PEOPLE! (yes am agitated)

Dug up some old news and here's a quote...

His performance was breathtaking, but the Academy decreed it ineligible for an Oscar.

Link here: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/12/20/1071868695902.html

Ugh. The Academy is probably going to get lots of hate mail (if there was an address, anyone knows?) if RotK does not get the number of nominations it deserves! My guess would be that it would get some nominations, grudgingly, and probably win the not-so-important ones, just to pacify the people out there.

Ugh.

Here's your chance to vote for your favorite movies for Oscar. You can pick 5 current movies . . placing your favorite first, and so on . . your choice will than be ranked, and the contest will continue until the Academy Awards are announced. At the moment Mystic River is ahead with the most votes for Best Picture.

Hmm, there appear to be two entries for ROTK: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and LOTR: The Return of the King . . if you add the two together you get over 200 more votes than what is recorded. Which means that despite the tally . . Return of the King is way ahead of the others. :applaud:

If you choose to vote though . . cast your vote for the one that reads: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King If you've already voted, you can go back and change it to the right entry. ;)

For me, here is who I would nominate for acting awards:

1: Sean Astin, (he'd better win!)
2: Elijah Wood (awesome performance)
3: Ian McKellen (brilliant...scene about death with Pippin was heart-wrenching)
4: Andy Serkis (Terriffic, terriffic, terriffic...to hell with Oscars! He was terriffic!) (I sound like I'm walking out of Charlotte's Web...ehhh...)
5. Billy Boyd (Shocking for me, I was not expecting this at all. Awesome performance that really surprised me, and he does deserve a nom...even more than Viggo in my opinion...well, for this installment that is. Plus, his singing was just as shocking, and sent chills up my spine.)
6. Miranda Otto (Great performance...might have needed a bit more meat to it, and I don't think it is the best performance by a supporting actress this year, but I would still nominate her.)

kylesmile
12-29-2003, 12:23 AM
I think the most underrated actor of the trilogy is Elijah Wood. He is the one person that has the carry the entire trilogy; if his performance was not perfect, the trilogy would not work at all. Even though he isn't given as emotional material as Sam in ROTK, I completely believed Frodo's inner struggle with the Ring and himself. I'm not saying that Sean Astin wasn't excellent, which he was, I'm just supporting Elijah here. If I had to pick one other actor who was consistently amazing throughout the trilogy it would have to be Ian McKellen; an absolutely incredible performance. No one else in this world could possibly be Gandalf or play him with such strength and warmth. Ahhh..... these movies are incredible! :)

Yeah, I did get that from an FYC, and the reason why I didn't much care for it is because he IS the lead actor, and it also hurt the other guys's chances. I dont think you guys understand at all what is happening. ROTK is doing practically the impossible, it has won more critics award than FOTR and TTT by a long shot, eryone thought it wouldnt do so well (but well enough) at the critics awards like FOTR and TTT, but still get Best pic and Director at the Oscars. However ROTK has turned into the Critic pet, it is destroying everything, nothing can stop it, it will win at the Globes and will sweep the Oscars, I can nearly go on the verge and say that its a fact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it will. What cracks me up is it is turning into the critics darling, when at this point everyone thought it was going to be the audiences vs. the critics, who we thought were gonna pick like, Lost in Translation or Mystic River. Instead, we win the NYFCC, and that starts a trend, and we end up winning all the critics awards....and the fact that Sean Astin is getting more wins is very pleasing to me....I really cannot see anyway this is losing now...the critics adore it, as it is the film with the most #1's, the critics circles adore it, as it has won the most of them, and audiences, of course, are embracing it as one of the greatest films of all time. There is no stopping it now.

Yeah, not seeing Anthony Mingella on there shocked me. Expect a big dip for Cold Mountain for this...I haven't seen it yet, so I can't comment, but this will give it a dip. Seabiscuit looks like it got a huge boost from getting both DGA and PGA awards. That might just squeeze into the Best Picture arena because of those awards...ya never know. Nice to see that after the Las Vegas awards, there seems to be a bit of love for Sean Astin, as the Phoenix people have already nom'd him as well. Sure, its just one society, but let me have my dream. Its not all too far off that he won't make it....if New Line continues to push him hard, and the movie keeps doing amazing business, then the likeliness of him getting nom'd is very possible. A win is unlikely...but it's what I'm hoping for.

Not of this Earth
Though unprecedented, the final 'Rings' saga begs the question: Will Oscar finally warm to fantasy?

By DAVID ROONEY

With the arrival of Peter Jackson's trilogy-capping "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," has the time finally come for fantasy films to be legitimized by top-tier Oscar recognition?
That's what New Line is hoping as it positions the "Rings" conclusion for the attention of Oscar voters -- despite a complete absence of any Academy precedent for bestowing principal honors on a fantasy film.

Including the best pic noms for previous "Rings" installments, "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers," only a handful of fantasy titles have made the shortlist in the top Oscar slot. Not one took home the gold. That list includes "The Wizard of Oz," "The Lost Horizon," "Star Wars" and "E.T." -- so clearly, "fantasy" encompasses a wide spectrum.

" 'Lord of the Rings' is a hybrid," says New Line president of domestic marketing Russell Schwartz. "It's a combination of the best of fantasy elements: imagination, visual effects, technical prowess. I think it's the best of literary adaptations, based on a book read by well over 100 million people. And in another sense, it has the best of historical pedigrees because it's based on the author's real-life experiences during World War I and his fear of the encroaching Nazi movement in World War II."

Those hybrid elements will be key to securing Oscar recognition beyond the obvious tech categories where the previous two chapters have been successful.

"A lot of it is how you define fantasy," adds Schwartz. "Is it about where it takes place or what it is saying? I think 'Return of the King' has all the grand themes of the great big-scale Hollywood dramas.

"Is it about special effects? We have special effects, but so do a number of other films which may be best picture contenders, as did past winners like 'Gladiator' or 'Titanic.' I think Peter's approach to the shape and scope of the Tolkien books suggest that this is a huge and unique world, but also a story that could only be told through very intimate human drama."

Popular thinking says the Academy tends in general to take genre films less seriously. But while conventional wisdom said Westerns, B-movie thrillers or musicals lacked the heft to garner top Oscars, the trophies awarded to "Dances With Wolves" and "Unforgiven," to "Silence of the Lambs" or to "Chicago" indicate contemporary Academy voters are less blinkered in the types of films they choose to embrace.

Schwartz points to the advent of controversial rapper Eminem winning a song Oscar for his "8 Mile" ditty, or of Roman Polanski, a director with an outstanding arrest warrant in the U.S., winning for "The Pianist," as signs the perception of Academy voters as an aging group clinging to traditionalist values is outdated.

"There are no rules any more," offers Schwartz. "People vote on the achievement of what they are seeing, not on the baggage they may at one time have brought to it. We've never bought that argument."

Schwartz and the brass at New Line aren't the only people singing "Return of the King's" praises. Reviews have been largely stellar, from the major metropolitan newspapers to weekly and monthly magazines. That most esoterically oriented body of film pundits, the New York Film Critics Circle, in December voted "Return of the King" best picture of 2003 despite having failed to name either of the previous two chapters in any category.

Even David Thomson, the astringent, often provocative author of "The New Biographical Dictionary of Film," is unequivocally praiseful. "I think 'The Lord of the Rings' is going to get best picture," he says. "It's going to do such business; it's got imaginative integrity, it's got vision. The overall achievement of the trilogy is so immense that it has to be recognized."

Many critics and industryites, not to mention legions of Tolkien geeks, feel similarly, that Jackson is overdue recognition for a project that dwarfs almost anything in the history of cinema in terms of sheer size, scope and ambition. Rarely have popcorn entertainment, visual spectacle, literary pedigree and Shakespearean dramatic texture been wed with such intelligence as in the final chapter in particular.

One obstacle for New Line is that the majority of successful best picture contenders have built additional momentum with nominees in the lead acting categories. However, while the distrib is running a lead actor campaign for Elijah Wood, "Returnof the King" is very much an ensemble piece, and more likely to figure in the supporting ranks, where Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen and Miranda Otto are being pushed.

A number of best picture winners such as "Braveheart," "The Last Emperor" and "Platoon" scored victories without lead acting nominations. But the tendency of actors -- the largest body of Academy members -- to vote more for actor-driven films may provide a minor stumbling block.

While every Oscar contender eyes the gold of a best picture or director statuette longingly, few filmmakers have had their eye on the prize as long as Jackson, whose completion of the "Rings" saga represents the culmination of five years' work.

With close to $1.8 billion in the coffers for the first two installments and a seemingly not-unrealistic goal of $1 billion for the finale, the trilogy represents the best kind of behemoth -- a massive logistical undertaking and even more daunting financial gamble, which has paid off stunningly both commercially and artistically.

What makes the overall achievement even more singular is that it was made in far-flung New Zealand, without the infrastructure or supervision of a major studio, maintaining -- albeit in a vastly magnified version -- the same spirit of cottage-industry enterprise and creative independence that has characterized Jackson's work since his early days. (Expanding on structures he set up for "Heavenly Creatures," the director built his own special effects and post-production facilities, providing a significant adrenaline shot for the New Zealand film industry.)

The view that filtered through the Oscar rumor mill in the past two years was that voters were saving their full-throttle endorsement of Jackson for the trilogy's final chapter as a means of honoring the entire endeavor.

However, New Line was never a party to that thinking, which many observers believe was propagated by the distrib's rivals. And those same rivals show no sign of stepping back or being less aggressive in their campaigning out of deference to Jackson this year. But New Line insists its campaign this time around is geared exclusively to "Return of the King" and not around the trilogy.

"Our intention is to focus completely on this film," stresses Schwartz. "This is about this movie this year."

Once the initial wave of critical coverage subsides, New Line is anticipating an ongoing stream of editorial think-pieces through January to keep "The Rings" high on Oscar voters' radars -- including those older voters who may be resistant to the genre. Some see the movies as boy toys unlikely to register across all the necessary demographics to secure the ultimate Oscar crown.

"Is there an audience segment that is not first to embrace this movie?" asks Schwartz. "Of course there is; In our case, I would say 50-plus women. Every movie has an Achilles' heel, a group which is hardest to appeal to.

"Ultimately, the film will speak for itself and that's the beauty of this voting process as compared to a regular election campaign."

Well, at least it's good to know this now. I had been reloading the page like every minute trying to find out. Ah well...i'll just go on Nintendo and wait a while. Hey, btw, does this awards thing just do BP, or all the other catagories, like Director, Actor, Actress...Best supporting actor for Sean Astin?

It does all categories according to my knowledge, and I trust my knowledge, so yes.

I believe these are the second biggest critics awards, behind the NYFCC which ROTK won Best Picture. So any wins here is a big boost, but like ROTK needs a boost.

RebelwithaCause

It couldn't hurt though, lol, and a win for supporting here for Sean would be a big help as well to get him into the top 5, and a possible, (hopefully!) win.

Glordreen

He should win, his preformance is the best of the year. But the stupid academy is well..............stupid.

RebelwithaCause
01-07-2004, 10:55 PM
Exactly. But hey, there's no time like the present to make up for the past...and in my book, this would do so. And I agree completely on his performance being the best of the year. He was just....I donno....there ain't no words for how good this dude's performance was.

So far, only one for ROTK...nothing for Sean Astin, unfortunately. Ah well.....so long as it gets Director and Picture...I'll be fine. This was just a hoping for kinda thing.

RebelwithaCause
01-08-2004, 12:44 AM
Bill Nighy was a huge surprise, but I liked him in Love Actually, lol, so good for him. New Generation will no doubt be Evan Rachel Wood...I can't really think of anyone else, except Keira Knightley or Shia LeBouf possibly...but Evan sounds like the best guess.

They've just like stopped announcing the awards, we still have Screenplay, Director, and Picture.

RebelwithaCause

They really liked 21 grams though, didn't they? I mean, look at the acting awards....Melissa Leo, (who has got NOTHING PREVIOUSLY), then Benicio Del Toro, who had basically disapeared from sight recently in terms of Oscar Hype. Naomi Watts isn't a huge surprise...but could this lead to a 21 Grams sweep? It's possible...I'm hoping not....oh please LA films critics...just pick ROTK...ya know you want to....hehehe

RebelwithaCause
01-08-2004, 01:06 AM
Oh no doubt...unless they really are having a tough time with the Screenplay.

RebelwithaCause
01-08-2004, 01:07 AM
We have New Generation, Experimental Film, Foreign Language, Documentary, Screenplay, Director, and Picture left to go, according to everythingoscar.com.

Glordreen

ture, 21 grams seems to be the favorite, but what did ROTK win at the NYFCC along with Best Picture, I cant remeber even. I still hope ROTK can get BP and BD.
