Goodnight, adt100! :applaud: I bid you and everyone else a fond farewell as I, too, plod off to bed.
I also apologise for my pessimism over the past 3 years and rejoyce in the amazing 11 victories (17 for the trilogy)!

I hate to contradict, but ROTK is in fact the FOURTH film to sweep across the board. Yes, two of them were "Gigi" and "The Last Emperor," but everyone seems to be forgetting that "It Happened One Night" went 5-for-5 back in the 30s.

Passion will not pass it. People will flock to see it but I highly doubt people will return to see it 15 times. The controversy helped it, not that it wasn't great, but the buzz around it was a tempest in a teapot. I didn't think there was any Anti-Semitism in it. That comes from Jews complaining about it, not from the movie. No one would have gone out hating the Jews, it was there own fault that became such a big issue you know what I mean?. Anyway my point, Passion will not pass ROTK.

I think all three (Annie, Fran and Howard) colaborated on the composition and lyrics. I believe it was most Fran and Howard on lyrics though.
Yeah, the staging of the Belleville song was great.

Remember that some of the lyrics actually came from the screenplay like the "And all will turn to silver glass" line from when Gandalf is talking to Pippin at Minas Tirith. Maybe Walsh (Not Boyens :p) was responsible for that.

Not Phillipa, Fran. Fran is the skinner one with the flower things in her hair if you didn't know. I got them confused when I first saw a documentary on tv about it.

If only they'd nominated ROTK for Sound (as opposed to just 3 nominees) or Cinematography, I'm sure that the 'tick all boxes' habit of AMPAS would have earned ROTK that record 12 wins, and not just 11.
Funny isn't it, how after expecting perhaps 7-8 awards (which would have been fantstic in its own right), I'm now talking about how it could have won even more! :D

I am proud to announce that the ROTK sweep last night was the biggest in Oscar history. Sure it tied the record for the most wins, but it went 11 for 11. Ben Hur went 11 for 13, and Titanic went 11 for 14. There are only two other films that won everything they were nominated for, and those were Gigi and The Last Emperor, each going 9 for 9. So this makes ROTK's sweep the biggest ion Oscar history. And ROTK has tied for the most wins in Oscar history!!!!!!!!!!This is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I am still bouncing off the walls!!!!!!!!!!!

I was watching Extra yesterday and they had a little snippet interview after the ceremony with Spielberg and he said:
"This is a big, big night for all of us who love science fiction and fantasy and films that celebrate the imagination like Lord of the Rings did"
Sounds to me like he quite liked the film. For Steven, who directed movies like E.T., Close Encounters, Minority Report and A.I., this must seem like vindication for these genres.

something that i'm wondering about from the oscars.
do the members of the orchestra get told who wins when they get there in the morning, cos they have only the music that they need, and in the appropriate order. does anyone actually know what happens with this, as there is simply no way that the members of the orchestra could find the appropriate piece among the bag of stuff they'd have to take in the tiny time between the announcement of the winner and the commencement of the music

You can expect it too sweep the MTV Movie Awards. Two towers did last year. As for the people's choice, i believe POTC might take ROTK's glory considering the vast majority who vote are house wives.....you know the kind who went to court to get those parental warnings put on cds. POTC will not be included in the Peoples choice next year. The Peoples choice Awards takes movies from November to November. So only the movies that came out between November 2003- November 2004, will be eligible.
