Peter Jackson said it was originally at the end of The Two Towers then decided not to put it at the beginning of ROTK as well.

So what DVD Extended Edition will it be on?....The Two towers or Return of the King?

It has been confirmed on CS! that this scene will be on the ROTK EE. Go to 11/09's headlines, and click on the one that says "Peter Jackson talks The Return of the King."

Then you will be looking forward to TTT EE appendices... On disc 4, on one of the featurettes, you can see a small rough cut of the death of Saruman which was orginally going to be part of the end of TTT...

I still think it was a stupid decision not putting Sarumans death and the plantir scene in the theatrical edition of TTT. I dont understand how an extra 10 or 15 minutes could have been anticlimatic and would have hurt the films ending.

PJ was under very tight orders from New line to keep FoTR and TTT theactical edtions under 3 hours. I agree that it makes sense that it should be in there, as well as the scene that explains how Farimir knows Broimir is dead, thats never explained in TTT theactical. I'm glad it will be in TTT EE.
Its going to take some creative editing, ect. to deal with the plot holes leaving the scene cuts out. I now can't wait for RoTK, just to see how they deal with it.

Actually, if you refer to CS!'s archives from 11/09 and click on "Peter Jackson on The Return of the King," PJ definitively states that NL was not a factor in cutting out this scene. Read more to find out...
