Yes, they are total different movies, but they do have simular features; the hero, love interests, bad guys, cool dialog, interesting and expanded universes, adventurous story.
Explain why you believe which is a better series including its expanded universe?
eg. Neo is better than Luke because he does kung fu or Luke is better because his progression to a jedi is slower and more detailed.
eg. Which final battle is better?
someone answer, "Who is better Han Solo or Morpheus?"

First off, you need to exclude the new star wars films, because they are god awful, but the original three. oh wow, these are brilliant. Harrison Ford's shameless flirting with Carrie Fisher? Luke's hand getting cut off? EVEN THE EWOK scene. This is one of the greatest trilogies ever (RoTK may beat it out, but not sure yet). I can not think of any trilogy other than LoTR that even comes close to star wars. Granted, the first film is incredible, the last two are semi-weak. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed them both, but admit it, they had so many weaknesses, and could have been even better than star wars. The story is excellent (especially the well crafted second renaissance), and there could have been sooo much more done. You cannot compare reloaded and revolutions to Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

no you cant. but can you compair Reloaed and Revolutions to Ep. I and II? To me M1 is like SW OT, M2 & M3 like Ep. I & II in term of what they did to the original. if i did make it just the original SW, matrix (i think) would have no chance, and i wanted to include everything about both series.
LOTR is excelent but not everyone is familiar with its expanded universe (eg. The Hobit), and thats another story.

IMO The Lord Of The Rings kicks both The Matrix trilogy and the Star Wars old trilogys ass.

How can people say the Matrix trilogy is better than the Star Wars one, I just don't get it.
Even with the expected bias of putting it in the Matrix forum...

Episode I and II ruined it for me... if it was ONLY Star Wars episodes IV, V and VI then id definetly go with Star Wars but since its ALL of the Star Wars movies vs. The Matrix trilogy i have to go with Matrix.

Star Wars is great, but nothing beats the Matrix. In a certain sense Reloaded and Revolutions can be compared to Empire and Jedi. Reloaded and Empire had dark endings, and Revolutions and Jedi were nothing but puppets (or in the Matrix's case, CGI). ;) However, I like Empire better than Jedi, and Revolutions better than Reloaded. So, obviously it's not a perfect comparison.

So I guess we're not talking cumulative "goodness" but instead overall.

There are so many things not perfect about that...

This is just my two cents, but they should have just left the Matrix as one movie and let it be. It didn't warrant three, in my view.

it's my firm belief that the matrix was made, at least in the sequels case, for people who want to go to a movie and feel smart. it's chock full of references that even people who liked fast and the furious can understand. OMG neo is jesus 2.0, and agent smith is the anti-christ. also(it seems to me that most of you matrix supporters have missed this.)...they ****ing sell out in the end. neo and the head machine guy make a pact to kill smith. zion is saved, and all the other unsuspecting humans are left plugged into the matrix never to know what real life is. they are left to the machines. the matrix had nothing you cant get in a video game, and at least in a video game you get the first person point of view.
please...someone try and defend the 15 minute rave/orgy scene from reloaded. i beg you.
i dont mind people who liked the first one and dont like the newest two...but you people who think the whole trilogy is a gift from god, and not just a way to pick your pocket make me wanna point and laugh.

also..."trin" took longer to die than jimmy smits did on nypd blue. and he tok 4 episodes to die. heh.

Han is a scoundrel with no particular allegiance based on a myth. he doesn't belive jedi will save the world from evil. he is skeptical, and only believes it once he has seen it happen. he didn't seek out a chosen one to make everything right based on what some computer program that likes to smoke said to him.
not to mention fishburne couldn't act himself out of a paperbag. watch his directv commercials for proof of this. jumpin' jehosephats.

ok.....now these two trilogies hold rights to be compared based on genre and the features therein (i feel its ignorant to compare LOTR to Matrix b/c ur fighting epic fantasy w/pilisophical scifi).......anyway......
matrix is the SW of this generation.....BUT.....just b/c its for our generation doesnt mean its better.....SW...now that is EPIC...that could be compared to LOTR based on that (SW would win).......matrix isnt epic....groundbreaking/awesome/fun/even classic.....but epic....no.....i loved the trilogy...but i think that reloaded/revolutions werent fully conceived until AFTER matrix was a hit.......whereas lucas had the concept for all 6 and the story for 4-6 already when he put out SW.....plus.....SW is three separate movies...u could see any of the three and still get the jist of whats going on...and leave w/out HAVING to see the other...even if somewhat difficult.....reloaded/revolutions r one movie broke in 2.....and the WBs may have had the matrix universe in mind....but i think the full realizations of 2/3 didnt come until after success.......sadly so.....b/c as good as they were....i know they could have been better.....*tears*......SW all the way!!!

I love both, but I think SW(I-VI) is the better saga. However, Revolutions is (somewhat) better then ROTJ. I enjoy the mythical feel of SW more than the coldness of The Matrix. Don't get me wrong, I love dark films, but SW has this epic feeling to it.
The Matrix *****
The Matrix Reloaded ****
The Matrix Revolutions ****1/2
The Phantom Menace *****
Attack Of The Clones *****
Episode IIII ?

thank god Star Wars is now beating out the Matrix. When i voted, it was 3-0 Matrix, then 3-1 :).
I loved the original matrix, and enjoyed the last two. They just didn't have the same feel. I don't recall ever cringing because of bad dialogue in the first one, and I think that the Wachowski's just buckled under the pressure. The story is great, and even the ending is quite brilliant, but the story is not all that makes a movie. Look at Episodes I and II, where the story is phenomenal (minus silly things like midichlorians/Jar Jar). However, the acting is less than perfect, and the screenplay, if you want to call it that is laughable.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that the matrix has a script as bad as Episode I/II, but it had its moments. Eventually, the questions with no answers became annoying. For instance, Neo's scene in the park in reloaded before Smith breaks up the party. Where he's explaining all that stuff to the article, "how can i trust you." She responds with something like "there's no way for you to know whether you can trust me" I mean, there has to be a better way to show that. Hell, you don't even have to say whether she is to be trusted, it's pretty obvious. And of course, there's the "they need you. I need you. I know" bit. No dialogue in a movie with that sort of budget should be that awful.
Neo's conversation with Sati's father was very redundant.
Like i said, i really did like this movie a lot, but i know it could have been much better, as do most of you. Who can say Star Wars IV, V, VI could have been better (well, VI had a few weaknesses)?

I would of picked Star Wars, had the prequels not been included perhaps. But honestly, the dilogue and plots are pretty as-typical.

Is it ok for me to b just lovin it all? i really do hate critisesing films as there is so much work put in to make them, so many people's livelihoods. saying that though, if its really bad i admit it.
But in my humble opinion i enjoyed all of these films - star wars (yes even the new ones), lord of da rings, and the matrix, not seeing much that i didnt enjoy.
So i'm not gonna pit them agaisnt each other and say they all rocked.

Oh God...I knew this day would come...
Star Wars was my childhood OBSESSION (obsession being the key word here), and now the Matrix Trilogy is. Ach. I can't choose.

There are two doors. The door to your right leads to the source, and the salvation of Star Wars. The door to the left leads back to The Matrix, to her, and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you're going to do, don't we?

The matrix series, it's just more down to earth and just much more creative then Star Wars ever was (not that I'm dissing Star Wars! )

in the star wars movies it was all too predicatable. storm troopers vs. agents....agents more deceptive and challenging. smith vs. darth vader...smith more involved and a more likeable bad guy. morpheous vs. obi wan.... obi wan had more of a cameo than a great part with leadership and didn't help luke as much as morpheous helped neo. and carrie ann moss is alot better looking than carrie fisher. and thank god the matrix didn't have anything as annoying as c3po.

Can you hear the sqeak of my wheelchair? I was at Empire the night it opened. I can still point out the theater. One plain and simple fact (Ep 1 - 3 not withstanding) without the efforts made and effects created by Lucas and Speilberg some 27 years ago movies like Matrix would not be half the movie that they are today. 10 to 15 years from now we will see the true staying power of the Matrix Saga. Star Wars will still be known...mark my words.
Some movies are icon in history and some get lost in the blur of movies over time. Ask anyone if they have seen a Mad Max or Tron movie, most will say yes, cause these are movies with staying power. I just do not see it with the Matrix sequals. Hell, I think Revolutions will fall in the same cinimatic fissure that the The Search for Spock or Starfighter exists.
