At the moment on BBC2 TV channel in the UK there is a series called 'The Big Read'. Basically the idea is to find 'the nation's favourite book', and after a public vote to find the most popular 100 earlier this year, there is now a 7 week series where 3 TV personalities each review 1 of 3 books that make up the top 21.
After all 21 have been covered there is a final programme which will reveal the winner. Needless to say it's looking pretty certain already that The Lord of the Rings will come out on top (helped greatly by the recent films).
Anyway, there are 3 novels by American authors that stood out for me which I haven't read but was thinking of buying -
Catch-22
The Catcher in the Rye
To Kill a Mockingbird
What do Americans (or anyone for that matter) think of these books?
