I could of sworn that I saw the Indiana Jones DVD collection at my local movie rental and retailer, Movie Gallery. I can almost SWEAR i saw them stting there on the shelf, but then I went onlin and found out that it hasnt come out yet and I saw it on tuedsday LAST WEEK. I know I sound crazy but I swear I saw it.

Some retailers sell them early, which is - of course - illegal. But even more retailers stack lots of empty covers of certain soon-to-be-released DVDs.

that has happened to me before too, only it wasnt a video rental it was for sale. they did it a lot at k-mart. a lot of the time it is just because people dont realize it isnt out yet so they unpack it with all the stuff that does come out that day. i have bought several movies before they were supposed to come out. also what happens a lot is that it is very illegal and so they have to put them back in storage. blockbuster got in a lot of trouble like a year ago because they did that, they got a huge fine. so that is probably why it wasnt there anymore. you should have grabbed it!

Once I saw Valentine out early. They had a sign next to the rack saying you had to go to the register and talk to the guy if you want to buy it.

And I'm pretty sure I saw Man Bites Dog a few days early as Suncoast once.

Apparently a ton of poeple saw Family Guy season 3 out weeks early at K-Marts.

Similar thing happened with the Attack of the Clones toys. A friend got a ton of them a few days early and when I went to that store they were gone, only an empty shelf. I think someone realized they weren't suppossed to be out yet and yanked them.

If a store sells a DVD early they can face a large fine and if they continue you do it that specific store will not be allowed to sel New Releases they day they come out. They will receive the product a week later missing the big rush. Early this year when the new Harry Potter came out my Target was told that if we sold any copies of the book before the store was opened we would be fined $1000 per book and we would not be allowed any new release Harry Potter books for the restof the series we would have to wait two weeks before we would get the book in. Working in Electronics I get a list every week of what stores around mine sold a new release early. My store had a problem earlier this year with an employee not knowing what was and wasn't new. Since March my store has not had any Street Date breaks because only three employees stock the movies and music come into my store.

Disney is a company who passes larger fines on stores that break there street dates. George Lucas is another person who issues larger then noral fines as well.

Maybe it was just a display box, I'm sure a bunch of retailers have those up.
