Max Evans was in his second period of double Maths while his teacher was talking about some dead person's theory of a triangle. He wasn't very interested and his mind started to wander, thinking of the movie last night and the quotation that made it so famous:
"Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you're going to get."
Right now Max would have given anything for a box of chocolates or even just one chocolate, a strawberry cream, or a caramel.

Max was doodling his initials in the corner of his jotter when all of a sudden all the windows of the classroom shattered. The shards of glass rained down on the students next to the windows like droplets of acid. Before half the windows had completely fallen a group of faceless marines came jumping in, there faces hidden behind black gas masks.
"Nobody move! U.S. Air Force!" One shouted from under the mask waving his gun around.
The teacher dived behind his desk in fear and all the children screamed. Max sat in his chair smiling as one of the marines moved over to him and removed his mask.
"Maxwell Evans we have orders to take you to the White House," the marine stated.
"Ok?" replied Max, not sure why they wanted him.
"Max!" the leader shouted in his face, "Max! Maxwell!"
Max shrugged and the classroom was back to normal with no sign the air force had been there; he was looking up at the teacher.
"Maxwell what is the answer?"
"Twenty-five?" Max guessed.
"Which would mean?"
"Err, five?"
"Lucky guess Maxwell," the teacher said walking back to the white board.

After only a few minutes of listening to Pythagoras' theory, Max was doodling again.
As his doodles took shape of a fighter jet his stomach felt like he had just gone over the top of the big dipper. A group of time blue circles fell over him and the whole classroom changed into a dark and eerie room smelling of the rotten, decaying stench of death. Two large bat-like creatures crawled along the floor towards him. These things had short, fuzzy, brown fur, sharp claws and jagged teeth and looked more hideous than any alien in any movie.
The smaller of the two opened its mouth and screeched at Max who in turn screamed in pain. His ears felt like they were about to explode in agony. Max fell to the floor screaming when he heard one of the bats talking to him. As the vision receded he realized that the voice belonged to his teacher.
Max was in the middle of his classroom kneeling with his hands over his ears. Everyone in the class was looking at him. Max could feel his face burning like a fire.
"Get up Maxwell! I'll talk to you at the end of the day."
His teacher obviously didn't see the funny side like all his classmates – they were all laughing at him.
"Be quiet and get on with your work, unless you want to join Maxwell."
Max sat in his seat and looked at his textbook, which read, 'If a right angle triangle has sides three centimetres long and nine centimetres long what is the length of the hypotenuse?' But Max hadn't been paying attention so he was clueless. Rather than asking for help Max looked out the window…
Shocked and confused at what he saw out there, he continued to watch. The U.S. Air Force was flying in their fighter jets shooting at strange UFOs. Some alien laser fire hit a house near the school. Only a moment later there was a huge explosion. Max could feel the heat from the flames.

"MAXWELL! You're daydreaming again!"
His teacher shouted at him with phlegm flying from his mouth like some sergeant in a boot camp.
"If you're not careful you'll get us all killed!"
Max shrugged and was suddenly aware he wasn't facing his teacher at all but an actual sergeant in the army. He looked over the classroom to see a wrecked room with only three walls and an open hole where the fourth should stand. Over by the old building in which he had witnessed the huge explosion there was a burnt out UFO.
"Sorry sir!" Max replied to the sergeant.
As they turned to walk to the next room Max mumbled to himself, "It looks like daydreams are like a box of chocolates – you never know what you're going to get."
He smiled and walked off.
"What were you dreaming about anyway?" The sergeant asked in a more friendly voice than normal.
"The only thing worse than this war – Maths." Max laughed out looking back at the black and empty void of a doorway leading into the class room. "It turns out the only time a daydream fails to be a way of escape, is when reality makes it a nightmare."

Thanx for all the positive feed back. I’m actually looking for negative feed back, if I can use it, to help me make it even better.

I haven't read my own story in so long, I really need to read it again, just to adjust any little things that I feel it needs.
