This is just me asking a few questions:
The reason why the SW forums on ComingSoon aren't that popular is because the 2 main forums of SW are on StarWars.com and TheForce.net. The fans or whatever post on those forums.
It's also the same with Terminator - a lot of people post of Terminator sites.
However, i've noticed the busiest LOTR forum is this one - isn't there any other major one?
Is there no LOTR.net forum?

no. there is no forum on www.lordoftherings.net
however, there is one on www.theonering.net but that is really crappy, and not many people that post here post over there, because here is heaps easier and better (IMO)

There is one on Boxofficemojo and Oscarwatch, but I would have to say this is the busiest

the two most prominent Lord of the Rings forums is Tolkien Online - The While Council (http://www.tolkienonline.com/thewhitecouncil/) and The Council of Elrond (http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/).

There are plenty of LOTR forums on the net, most have been mentioned in here.
TORN would I suppose be the equivalent of theforce.net, but their threaded style of forum makes it very poor unfortunately.
The main site for all things Tolkien is TORC (Tolkien Online) which is the most comprehensive of all boards IMO. As Rydia points out this and The-Council-Of-Elrond are perhaps the 2 most popular boards.
There's also Council of Elrond (councilofelrond.com) (different to the COE above) which is a pretty big site. Those and War of the Ring are all sites I've got in my favourites but I never actually bothered becoming a member because i) don't have time ii) I only really discovered them earlier this year, and I'm not likely to bother posting much once the films are over.

I dunno, some of the discussions on the Plaza could make your head explode!! People who spend like 27 yers reading LOTR tend to get really technical and touchy with the details.

If you want really technical and really in depth discussion about things Tolkien and LOTR then nothing beats TORC IMO. It can drive you mad at times!

Have to disagree with you about lotrplaza. Lasgalen pointed it out a few months ago and I actually found it a little strange TBO, and they have too many forums.
Also an awful lot of the posters seemed to be posting complete and utter rubbish (at least with regards the films) when I had a look down some of the threads.

yeah, I agree there.
Out of all of the sites Ive visisted, Ive found this by far the best.
The info is good (people know what ther talking about) and theres hardly any spamming compared to other sites. But its only as good as the posters make it- so well done guys.

This site gets EXTREMELY deep in Tolkien's works. It's a great site but most of it is dedicated to the books and only 4 forums to the movies. I've stopped going there recently because all the "extreme" purists have been griping too much about TTT. But I still recommend it for a good Tolkien conversation though.

Just had a quick check there and the first thing I noticed is the ridiculously huge amount of forums to actually navigate around! What's all those threads about guilds & societies, and 4 separate forums just for the films!

Yeah, that site is pretty large. But you get tons of useful info from it. Pretty much if you want to know anything about the books or movies, it will be in there.
