(CNN) -- Actor and comedian John Ritter has died unexpectedly after he was rushed to the hospital for a "dissection of the aorta," his publicist Lisa Kasteler told CNN.

Ritter, who would have turned 55 next week, was the star of the ABC series "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

I am really saddened by this. I was a big fan of him and his work. Just yesterday I was at a critics screening for the new fall television show season and I was hyped up about watching the 2nd season of 8 simple rules because that is one of my favorite shows. But with his sudden death who knows the fait of the show and cliffod the big red dog in which he also provided the voice.

I wonder if 8 Simple Rules will still be produced...When Redd Foxx died in 1991 his show the Royal Family continued but it's not the same.

Terrible news.Very sad day indeed.

I don't think they could pull the show off without him. Look what happened to Newsradio after Hartman's death. It wasn't as good.

Really shocking. I had to read the article twice just to comprehend it. I still can't believe it though.

Did I wake up in the Twilight Zone?! I went to IMDb as I do everyday and saw the headline that Jonny Cash had passed away. No real shock, since his health has been in the news of late but just below it said John Ritter had died. I had to read it again and thought that it had to be some other actor.

Just a sad thing. I didn't watch his show but I did watch Three's Company when I was young (early 90s). The last time I saw him on TV was him being the second guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He talked about how his testicle was visible for a brief second in a episode of TC and that it is now edited but back then nobody had VCRs (pause/slow) so it went unoticed until some diehard fan reported it. Very memorable show. :(

This is one passing of a celeb, I did NOT wanna believe. I grew up watching John Ritter thru the 70's classic TV show Three's Company. He expanded his talents thru some great movies from Stay Tuned to the very odd Nowhere. John is enjoying new sucess on ABC's 8 Simple Rules and man this show will not be the same w/o him.:waa:

That's sad to think that he was only 54 years old.

I'm not too familiar with his work but he did a great job in the episode where he plays Joyce's love interest and turns out to be a killing robot in season two of Buffy.

Really sad news. Everyone I know was talking about it, I wouldn't figure most 17 year olds would know him or any of his work but its definetly got everyone a little upset. I didn't believe it when I heard it. This sucks, 8 Simple Rules was a great show too!

What's really tragic is that I heard an interview with him that was done last year about 9/11. 9/11 has bittersweet memories for him - the attacks that took place that day were about death and his daughter who was born that day represented life.

And now this. He died on his daughter's 5th birthday.

teewee1432
09-12-2003, 10:09 PM
I heard about that two about his daughters birthday, everyone was talking about it on my job today, and I still can't believe that he's gone. this will take some time to get over. As far as his show goes I was a huge fan and I rarly missed a single eposode and was awaiting season 2. Man I just cant believe I said was, I cant believe that this is it. But I dont think that they can contiue the show without him. They should air the eposodes they already shot because I read that they shot eposodes up untill halloween. After they are done the show should be over, I dont see how they could go on.

R.I.P John once again.

that sucks, in his latest tv appearences he seemed very healthy
but i guess he wasnt. at least he will be remembered in a good way. the same thing happened to my dads friend, last year on new years eve my dads friend randy seemed healthy as a horse one minute and the next minute he collapsed and was dead.
life is not fear to the living, but those who go to heaven are happy as hell.

It is just so sudden and shocking. I was watching some footage of him from only a couple of days before he passed away and its justweird to see him in perfect health, then find out he's dead.
He will be sorely missed

I now understand why my mother can't watch anything with Michael Landon in it anymore. She loved him, and since his death, can't handle watching him, it's too upsetting. I happened to flip by an episode of Three's Company, and when I saw him, I felt my heart just drop. I wonder if I'll ever be able to watch it again.
