Hi,
I remember seeing Total Recall in the theaters and vaguely recall that there was a very sexy bedroom scene at the beginning with Sharon Stone on top of Arnold. And Sharon was topless. I remember watching the same movie on one of the movie chanels (HBO/Cinemax/Showtime - forgot the exact one) and the bedroom scene seemed shorter.
So my question is, in addition to the aspect ratio, are the movies on cable edited from the theatrical version?

I think they are different from the theater version. But I think they are the same as the video release. Because I've seen this movie on video and I've never seen a topless Sharon Stone in it. I also remember seeing Batman in the theater and then a bajillion times on video on there are things missing in the video release that I remember seeing in the theater.

I doubt they are edited. Then again, when I rented "Final Destination 2" from on demand pay-per-view, I got the birthday cake deleted scene which lot of people don't know about.

it wasn't broadcast TV, it was a premium channel. I've seen topless nudity on their so why not adult language.

It's not really a big scene. Just a scene where death is lurking about and causes a wind gust that blows the candles on a birthday cake.

I've heard of video editing before. Of course you have Unrated/NC-17 edits (Requiem for A Dream, Y Tu Mama Tambien etc.), but Wonder Boys was edited for language, inexplicably.

i don't think hbo or showtime edit, but channels like usa, tbs, and tnt, or non cable channels edit.

Yeah they do. Saving Silverman on HBO took out some nudity (of the female kind) and a few scenes like in Subway. On HBO, Jack Black is just booted out of Subway but on the pay-per view version Jack is training some employees and they of course suck which caues him to be fired. And the two hookers are topless playing ping pong and the paddles don't cover anything in the pictures.
Also I watched Fast Times At Ridgemont High on a WAM! or some pay Comedy movie channel - No nudity.
Basically turning R rated in PG13 flims but still without commericals. Wider audience, edit for time. They have to plug other movies.

I say The Matrix of Fox and they edited the entire spoon boy scene out and some of his conversation with the Oracle stuff like that to make the movie shorter and maximize commercial time.

I remember watching showgirls on VH1 and they put these digital bras on all the girls. It just looked really fake and stupid.
