i think it's just a artistic effect - we don't know. similar to pulp fiction.

whoa this is weird. i just got back from Best Buy and bought the collector's edition of CW. from what I heard is that there is an Easter Egg on one of the disc's and the director tells you what is inside of the box. I'll have to check it out.

I thought I read somewhere that it was a box of
Chocolates-ala-Gump. I could be wrong but it doesn't stop me from saying it.

On the easter egg, Robert Zemekis, is talking with University students about the film Cast Away. He was asked the question "What was inside the box?" and he said, that it was a cell phone, waterproof matches radar equipment and some other helpful materials that coul've helped Tom over those years on the island. LOL but he said this in a joking kind of way.

I saw this movie so long ago - when it had only just been released in cinemas. I remember loving it, so I should probably buy the DVD...that's if I can get the money, LOL.

That was really funny.
I think we'll never know whats in the box, the angel wings on the outside of the box is what meant something to him. I think it gave him hope to keep surviving. It was his savior.

Yes. The wings were on the sail.
I guess it leaves it open for a sequel - Cast Away 2: Wilson meets the Harlem Globtrotters (or something like that)
