DJANGO REINHART
as Les Paul (inventor of the electric guitar, and Brilliant guitar player himself...) says, " A day without hearing Django play, is like a day without sunshine."
Hendrix was a genius, its just a shame that he destroyed himself, and left behind such a small body of work.
Nobody has mentioned Chet Atkins...or Doc Watson...

I don't think anyone on the planet has been able to work a guitar like Hendrix.

he played a LOT of versions of "I saw Stars", but I would recomend "Speevy" or "Minor Swing" or "Jeepers Creepers" or St. Louis Blues" or "Djangology", or "Improvisation".
he does some really amazing stuff, I think you can deffinitely see that he influenced Hendrix's playing

A very underestimated
guitar player is Mark Gallagher fron Raven. My top vote because listening to him progress thru 18 albums was really a trip. My fave hands down. The 1987 album "Life's A *****" really shows this guy's talent.
Rik Emmett from Triumph
Yngwie Malmsteen
Marty Friedman of Megadeth
Vinnie Moore of Vicious Rumors
Kirk Hammett (old Metallica only.)
I would say Eddie Van Halen
but he's too commercial.
And the Japanese guitar wizard, Akira Takasaki from Loudness. Many call this guy the Japanese Eddie Van Halen, but he does one thing Eddie dosen't-Takasaki actually plays other things besides hammer on's, finger taps and power slides.
I highly recommend Takasaki's album Tusk of The Jaguar.

Almost forgot Steve Vai. He and Joe Satriani were big influences on Kirk Hammett. Good call IdahoMR2man!
I'd like to add Michael Schenker, brother of Scorpions' guitarist Rudolph Schenker, when he was in the band UFO. Anyone who has ever heard the song "Captain Nemo" will agree. This is one of the most atmospheric instrumentals I have ever heard

I've heard Django. In fact I have a box set of his.
Fantastic stuff especially when you consider he couldn't use all of the fingers on his left hand.
That being said, Jimi Hendrix played chords they don't have a name for yet.
