What do you think the perfect ending to Lord of the Rings: Return of the King would be? Considering the ending of the book is not the ending for the Big Screen. What would that perfect ending be?

The screen fades to black, and then the credits role. ;)

Well, perhaps a thread like this already exist but here comes one ending...=
Grey havens, a light shines in the far west in a fjordland- Sam sadly walking up the road to bag end, Elanor comes and the camera rises into the sky zooming out the whole shire in its beauty but in this case emptyness as well- cate blanchett with a prolouge about a weaker and sader world, perhas, "things that shouldn´t been frgotten were lost" (i´ve stolen this from an other user I think:)) - Arwen waching the bed of Aragorn - Legolas and gimli looking back at middle earth from a ship - With no music att all, Arwen walks the hills of lothlorien and, by closing her eyes, she falls asleep forever. Two lines with some kind of text from tolkien appears that makes me and everyone else at the cinema cry (accept the ones who fell asleep during the messanges before the film) . The themesong performed på liv tyler or annie lennox slowly starts to ecoe in the background.

it has to be the grey havens.(which it will be)
followed by a epilogue from Galadriel

It never ends, just keeps on going with more great LOTR moments. Perhaps everyone and their families, and even a born again Smeagol, live in the castle and have some more quirky adventures.
"Well, I'm back" is as perfect as it can get for me.

before gollum finds into the crack of doom with the ring, han solo lands the millennium falcon outside of mt doom and runs inside with chewie and shoots frodo in the face, and then chewie rips off sams head. gollum is confused, so chewie grabs the ring and ***** slaps gollum into mt. doom. FIN.
coming next summer...
STAR WARS VS. LORD OF THE RINGS: MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.
no, in all seriousness though, an epilogue by galadriel would be perfect. make it really really emotional though.

me too
maybe this- the ship starts to fade away, and sam, pippin, and merry are riding back to the shire and during this galadriel has a voice over, they could cut to a shot of aragorn and arwen together, then a shot of legolas an gimli riding to fanghorn forest, and finally sam, merry, and pippin get back to the shire, sam hugs his daughter and says "I'm back"

What about the wedding, followed by the voiceover by Galadriel. I can't remember, but don't most of the characters attend the wedding?

i would like to see it as it was in the book, but that won't have the same effect, as writing and cinema are 2 very different media, and it is difficult to turn one into the other. but i know that PJ will deliver something spectacular, that will finally round off the story for all. near the end of that, we will get a VO by galadriel, and right when she has finished, the screen will fade to black, with the map we started with in the background

Yes, it would be very interesting but since Galadriel started it at the beginning of the movie, the viewer will need to have the narration delivered by Galadriel for a sense of closure. Sam would have been more interesting, but if PJ wanted to do that, he should have had Sam deliver the prelude in FOTR

i think they wanted him to do it at first

There was never any talk of Sam doing the prologue as far as I recall. That would seem very odd IMO. Frodo and Gandalf had been suggested and I'm pretty sure Gandalf did some actual recordings of it until they decided it wasn't quite right. Galadriel is the best choice I think.
