Gandalf has many names. Gandalf Stromcrow, Gandalf the Grey , Gandalf the white. But if I had to pick one for a last name, I would say Gandalf Stormcrow.

As for the others I was also wondering what their last names are, or even if they had last names

Well, we always hear Aragorn presented as "Aragorn, son of Arathorn", and Gimli as "Gimli, son of Gloin". Many old cultures had last names made up of the name of their fathers. The most common danish lastname is Jensen, which originally meant "son of Jens". Therefore I would imagine those above ARE their lastnames, if we can call them that.

Elrond Peredhl (half-elven)
same goes for Elladan and Elrohir, I dunno About Arwen since they seem to use Evenstar as her 2nd name.

Beren Eechamion
Luthien Tinuviel

Elessar Telcontar (Another of Aragorn's names, I think its his formal name when he becomes king. I think its the Elvish for 'Strider'.)

Gimli uses "Gloin's son" as his name, I dont think the Dwarves use sir-names in the same way the other races do, I dont think many races of men do either, thee old fashioned "son of" seems to apply there, too.

Aragorn probably has the coolest list of names in the whole Fellowship. Did you know his name meant "royal tree"?

And in The Return of the King (book), Aragorn does say that the name of his house will be Telcontar, which is Elven for Strider (I'm sorry to say I don't know which form of Elvish). So his royal name, complete with last name, is Elessar Telcontar.

aragorn does have the best list of names IMO. i think that telecontar is just as cool as mithrandir. i also heard the dwarvish name for gandalf once. it was awesomely cool, but i can't remember it, sadly

To put it another way, isn't Gandalf just Mithrandir in the tongues of Men. ;)

Probably Queenya, Sindarin is cooler but everything usually seems to be Queenya. But coming from Rivendel, it could easily be either.

sorry Thorongil, Im pretty sure its my spelling ^_^ it was pretty late at night when I made that post, which doesnt help! ^_^

This is sort of right. But yeah, it would make sense that some characters in the mideival like times fantasy book wouldn't have last names. Usually from the father's name would it be taken for last names, when they were starting to be incorporated.

Jenson, right, would be the the son of Jen.
Just any of the other thousand. Jackson, son of Jack. Johnson, son of John. So on and so forth.

So naturally some people from that type of era wouldn't have last names anyway. Thus why some just have the name "son of". It establishes difference.

*kicks herself for forgetting*

With 'the son of' topic, Legolas' formal name/title would be Legolas Thranduilion (son of Thranduil --It was even in the bloody movie and I just went and forgot about it!! :( )

It's Tharkun, Moose, with a circonflexe (the pointy hat thing on top of vowels in French).

ahh. thanks for that Queen Arwen. it is cool, ya have to admit, whe a dwarf says it. i know about the circonflexes, as i study french. it is acool language to learn. but not as good as elvish, but that isn't offered at my school. if it was, there would be about 5 people in the class

I looked it up in my "Complete Tolkien Compnion" *kisses book* and Telcontar is the Queenya, not Sindarin or Silvan word for Strider :)
