No Marci X in the Top 10. Big surprise. Turns out that it made about $290,000 yesterday, which means it will probably make around $750k for the weekend, giving it one of the worst per theatre averages for a new movie *EVER* of about $625 per theatre for the weekend. That is so bad that I can't imagine that any theatre will keep it for the two weeks usually expected...or else it will get one showing per day.
Basically, the three new movies didn't do very well, as expected. The highest new movie in the Top 10 was Jackie Chan's The Medallion, which made less than $3 million yesterday, ending up at #4 for Friday and probably ending the weekend with around $8 million, one of his most disappointing openings since the US release of his "Legend of Drunken Master", which didn't have half the promotion.
Of course, Freddy Vs. Jason stayed on top, although it will probably have around a 60% dropoff. SWAT and Freaky Friday both did well yesterday, as did Seabiscuit and Open Range, and they'll all do decently this week compared to last, as will Pirates of the Caribbean.
Despite doubling the number of theatres of release over the course of the week, Dimension Films' attempt to capitalize on Ashton Kutcher's new found notoriety didn't work, as it ended up towards the bottom of the top 10 and will probably end up making less than $5 million this weekend (I guess that's better than nothing)
